Season 2 DVD is absolutely delicious! They are selling at Target for $49.99 and Best Buy at $53.99, the cheapest I could find in the stores.

I'll be 21 in November and I've been a Lucy Lover since 1985. ;)

Yeah I agree with you! Season 2 set is great! I like this style a lot better than the individual volumes season 1 came in. They're alot cheaper in a box set than separately, too! The DVDs are awesome quality and include the animated Lucy-Desi characters for commercial breaks. I love Lucy!

Yes, the packaging is handsome compared to the dreadfully huge and tacky box set that season one came in. Thank god they managed to cut the number of discs in half and used slim cases instead of the big black cases season one had. I Love Lucy Season One alone took up half my bookshelf! Yes, I think I like season two better also. Not only the packaging but the episodes are better too. My favorite line was when Ethel dressed up like a man and then asked Fred how he saw through her disguise. He quickly said, "What disguise?"

This show is too funny!

I don't know if anyone also has any of The Dick Van Dyke Show DVDs, but they are packaged almost exactly the same way. 5 slim cases per season with a different picture on each case. I wonder if the producers or who's ever in charge of the I Love Lucy DVDs packaging saw The Dick Van Dyke Show's packaging and copied it. If that's the case I'm glad they did! Season one takes up so much room!!

To savy333: What episode were you talking about in your last post with the Fred and Ethel lines? I want to watch it now!

Hello, DickVanDykeMan, and all other ILL fans! I am wondering about the ILL box set DVDs. I currently subscribe to the Columbia House set and I get a new DVD every month. They just sent me the last episodes from season 3. These discs are expensive, as you can imagine. I own all 5 season sets of the Dick Van Dyke Show and love those! I love how they are packaged and I love the extras on them. How do the ILL season sets compare to these? I am considering cancelling my Columbia House subscription now that I have 3 complete seasons and purchasing the rest of the episodes in the season boxed sets. What is the release schedule for the rest of the sets? I'm really trying to weigh my options here. I love "ILL" and my kids do, too. They really look forward to the new discs when they come. I'm just trying to get the best deal here. What do you all think?

Hi Lolac! Nice to see some TDVDS fans on the ILL board!

Are you saying you own season 3 of ILL on DVD? TV Shows on DVD says it won't be released until November (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=2156). Thats all the info I can find about upcoming releases for the series on DVD. As I said in my last post in this thread, ILL season 2 box set is packaged very similar to TDVDS. The extras are pretty good, but not as good as TDVDS. There are no commentaries on any episodes, (Who's alive to do them?) but there the episodes are uncut, rstored/remastered and include the animated Lucy-Desi characters going into the middle commercial. Other extras: flubs, lost scenes, restored music, deleted footage, original series openings, script excerpts, production notes, and 5 episodes of "My Favorite Husband." (Lucy's radio show, one on each disc.) I don't know what the Columbia House DVDs are like, but I imagine they're similar. Hope this helps you Lolac!

Yes, I have all episodes through season 3. They are not boxed sets, however. Columbia House sends you a new DVD each month. They are completed through season 3. My next DVD will be the first 6 episodes of season 4. They are pretty well done. The animation is done as a bonus feature. They do have some pretty good extras, eg: information about the guest stars, flubs, "My Favorite Husband Episodes." We have enjoyed these very much, my only concern is the cost. The box sets are considerably less expensive than the one-a-month subscription.

I've heard an inside tip that Best Buy and Target have the best prices...

I'm the perfect question to ask this to! I, at first, subscribed to Columbia House and got three DVDs from them over the course of a summer. However, I stoped that fast when I realised it was almost three times as much as the ones they were selling in the store. Anyways, I have the first three DVDs from Columbia House and they are EXACTLY the same as the ones sold in stores. Even the menues have the same graphics and the same music and even the same extras. The only difference is the outside packaging.

As far as the release schedule, they say that the third season will be released in November... if that is true then I wouldn't expect the fourth season released until at least Spring 2005. Maybe even Summer 2005 based on how long it took season two to come out.

At this point, if I were you, I would just keep doing the Columbia House DVDs unless you are trying to cut back or are on a tight budget. The ones in the store are certainly less expensive!

That episode is Ricky Has Labor Pains when the girls dress up as Men and go to Ricky's Daddy Shower/Stag Party. It was so funny I am still cracking up about it. I love when Fred makes those little cracks about the way Ethel looks/her weight/how old she is! It is drop dead funny. Another favorite is the episode from the Diet:
Ethel: What would happen if I cried everytime I gained a pound?
Fred: We'd be up to our ears in tears!

I love those episodes!! I just watched "The Diet" today with my 3 kids. They also love that episode! They love the song and dance Ricky and Lucy do at the end! Our family quotes ILL lines and TDVDS lines all the time! I'm glad to know we aren't alone in our fervor!!

Thank you for your advice. I think I will probably stick with CH only because in a few weeks, I will be starting on season 4. I looked at the episode guide today and so many of my favorite episodes are coming up! (Of course, it is so hard to pick favorites, they all are so funny!

I do too Lolac!!! Sometimes I quote and/or reference to ILL and TDVDS around my friends! They don't watch those shows, so they just think I'm weird.

Thanks Savy333, I think I'll watch that episode later tonight! :tv:

ILL has so many memorable and funny moments... I wish there were more sitcoms like it!

Have you guys seen the cut scene in "Lucy Is a Matchmaker" where she puts the baby to sleep? I thought that was so cute!

Question about season 2, not the dvd set but the episodes themselves. Am I correct in assuming that they filmed a whole bunch of episodes before Lucy gave birth to be shown while she was away on maternity leave? I don't know whose idea that was, but that's great foresight to have episodes already done so that they'd air fresh while Lucy was dealing with the baby in real life. I like how they start the episodes mentioning that Lucy is somewhere else and then sort of "flashback" to a whole episode.

Yes that's true! The first flashback ep was 'Sales Resistance'

I'm confused- she doesn't look pregnant in any of the flashback episodes, so when did they film them? Like the second they found out she was pregnant they filmed six regular episodes and then set them aside to use while Lucy was on matornity leave? Then they began filming episodes which involved Lucy's pregnancy? It really doesn't make sense to me.

I want to buy I Love Lucy season 1 & 2 because they have such great extras and alot of them plus the great episodes in both seasons but the prices were so high.

"Rather than take the usual three month hiatus, they geared up to shoot as many shows as possible into the new season before the birth. Everyone's personal summer plans had to be rescheduled in order to film the pregnancy episodes before Lucy would have to stop in her final months"... from the book I Love Lucy by Mc Clay

I know! I ended up renting Season 2 at Blockbuster; there was only 1 left! I liked them but wasn't that impressed to be dying to get them right away or any time soon.
