Actually during the 1990-1991 they had a show on Friday nights after Perfect Strangers called Going Places. It was a funny show but was cancelled after only a single season. Anyone remember this show besides me?

Anyone remember this show besides me? I remember it and it wasn't bad. They had another one on during 1990-91 on CBS called Family Man starring Gregory Harrison that I thought was also pretty good.

I couldn't place The Hogan Family anywhere in the list; since I haven't ever see the show before.

Perfect Strangers - It's a silly show, but I really liked this as a kid, it got pretty lacklustre treatment in Australia usually being stripped during the summertime, but it was constantly goofy.
Family Matters - Again goofy as hell, but that was the appeal, had the sort of Laugh on Cue moments that sitcoms don't seem to have anymore. It got worse though as Urkel got weirder and it became a whacky sci-fi show.
Step By Step - This started out as one of the best family sitcoms ever and slowly declined into a sacharrine family show the likes of the last two on this list.
Full House - Ugggh, I don't know what worse, that decent talent like Dave Coulier and John Stamos were wasted in this or the endless parade of cute kids that mugged for the camera. It started out sugary and as it went on it hurt like a toothache.
The Hogan Family - This was just boring, to have a good family sitcom you must have an interesting hook, Step by Step had the mixed family, Full House ripped of 3 men and a Baby (I still remember the original promos in Australia touting it as 3 men and 3 babies!). Indeed this had a dead parent, but it wasn't the original concept it was a sad attempt to rescue a very boring show.

I remember watching all the Miller-Boyett sitcoms (except The Hogan Family) on Friday Nights during ABC's TGIF block. They bring back warm memories and thus I can't rank which one is the best and which one is the worst because they were all entertaining to me. I wish N@N would air ALL of them.

I believe there was another one. A show with Cindy Williams and Telma Hopkins. It was rerunned on Goodtv a year or two back.

I hope it's okay to quote a banned user, this post very much mirrors how I feel about their sitcoms and that entire TGIF block. For 9 mostly amazing years that's what a LOT of people trudged through the week to get to: the newest episodes of all the TGIF shows! A lot of people planned their Friday nights around that block of shows. I know I did that especially during the last half of High School! The thing is...they don't make shows like any of those really anymore and it's truly a damn shame. People go bananas for reality tv and dramas these days but not every show needs to be super serious or tacky like the reality shows on now. That entire block of shows were these lighthearted shows that didn't take themselves seriously. You knew you count count on it for family friendly safe shows. I cannot remember even one instance of cursing in most if not all those shows either!

It was a different time....we won't see a block of TV like that ever again. It was a weekly experience I haven't seen any network replicate-believe me both CBS and NBC wanted a Friday night block of their own to compete with TGIF for many years. NBC threw around ideas, some got green lit but didn't survive to airing. From what I understand they couldn't come up with enough shows to justify an entire competing block. CBS ultimately did try with "Friday Night Block Party" in '97. Exact right idea, exact right 2 anchor shows, but a few years too lays unfortunately. Had it started several years earlier I believe Les woulda had a hit block on his hands that could have provided VERY interesting competition to I'm ABC!

As brutally difficult as it will be to rank them, I'll try to rank them as best I can and give my reasoning why.

From best to worst:

1. Family Matters- I'm going back through Season 5 on my iPad right now and I'm constantly reminded of the countless Friday nights spent with the Winslows. For most of its run it was just this super goofy show that was very rarely serious. Quite a bit of slapstick too. When it started it was a traditional family sitcom spun directly off of Perfect Strangers. Out of the gate though, in the very beginning it didn't really interest me. The first half season I thought "This'll be REALLY lucky to get renewed." It wasn't bad the first half of the first season...it was just average with nothing really memorable about it. But almost exactly midway through Season 1 they tried s guest spot for Jaleel White and Steve Urkel. Boom...literally overnight, and I'm dead serious when I say overnight-that kid was a super star and that character was a house hold name. It was scary how fast that happened. From that point on it was a totally different shoe both totally and experience wise. It became one of my favorite shows in the span of that weekend, as it did many others. I think it and Boy Meets World were the two big super smash hits of the block during its height. Reginald VelJohnson looks on it fondly and to this day it's still his favorite project. He stuck with it till its end in 1998. Even he says there's not been anything like it since and it's not likely to be replicated. Unreal...ONE character, ONE guest spot changed that shows fate from probably done to super huge hit. That kinda thing would be very difficult to do today.

2. Step By Step- Just a great feel good show for most of its run! Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Somers did well as did most of the cast. What propelled that show into hit status was Cody without question. Oh yeah, it helped that Al and Karen were ultra smoking hot! I imagine those two were the crush of many teenage boys back then. But seriously it was mostly a feel good sitcom I have mostly good memories of and I hope Warner will finally release it soon!

3. Perfect Strangers- For the sake of this poll I'll put it as 3 but it's honestly tied for second in my book. That and Step By Step are almost impossible to say one was better than the other for me. That show made Larry and Balki household names for most of its run as well. God the stuff those two did! Especially Balki! Bronson Pinchot owes Balki everything for his career I think. He tried to come back to sitcoms in '97 with Meego but I think everyone wanted to see Balki again. Another personal favorite I hood Warner will finally get the rest of released soon.

4. Hogan Family- it wasn't a TGIF show from what I recall and it wasn't on ABC either. Oddly enough it was an NBC show if I remember right. Had they been able to keep it going NBC may have been able to build a block around it. More accurately had they recognized what they had that could have been an anchor for their own TGIF block. It was mostly enjoyable-though I've seen only chunks of the series and not the whole thing especially towards the end. In the beginning it was called Valerie I think and had that girl from Mary Tyler Moore in it. She left and they retooled it, casting Sandy Duncan in her place. I
The big block to a release of it has been Sandy, unfortunately. She's been uncooperative and won't give her permission for it. Just for the sake of being difficult from what I've read. I hope Warner can resolve it, it is one of their begged for series for a while.

5. Full House. In the beginning it was pretty good. As it went on it slipped gradually in quality. By the end I was mostly disgusted with how they chose to end it. Dave Coulier and John Stamos are pretty talented and their asses saved that show that's all I know. I'll definitely be watching Fuller House next year when it premieres though despite my low opinion of the original.

Miller-Boyett did several other shows too. Mostly short lived. Meego was one of them...going places was another, the one with Cindy Wiliams and Telma Hopkins was a third. They also had a heavy part in Happy Days towards the end of that series too.

I hope Fuller House-which they've come out of retirement for-does well and encourages them to get back into it one last time and they crank out a few more shows like the good old days...we could really use a few of those on network tv right now. I have an idea for a show-proposal and all written-that I'm thinking of getting to a proper agent and see if they'll get it into Miller and Boyett's hands...maybe something they can work with if it resonates with them ;)

IMHO, "Hogan Family" was best as "Valerie" - (Harper made a convincing modern mom) - but beyond that was mostly a showcase for the considerable charms of Jason Bateman - and maybe that was sufficient reason to keep it going.

Sandy Duncan's (who I have always liked) character always seemed so cranky, exhausted, and uncomfortable, like she really didn't want to be there acting as a policewoman for her brother's kids.

All 5 of them stink!
