Two words: Family Guy
Anyone who watches Family Guy knows how heavy it is in references. Watching the season 3 dvd set, I noticed something interesting. In the episode "To Live and Die in Dixie" they made references to Dukes of Hazzard, ALF, Jeff Foxworthy and Hee Haw, and all of those shows are now available on dvd, released within months of each other.
On another episode "Peter Griffin: Husband, Father...Brother?", they made references to Pee Wee's Playhouse, the Jeffersons, Good Times, Fat Albert, Diff'rent Strokes and Facts of Life. Three are already out and Pee Wee and Diff'rent Strokes are coming soon, so with this track record, it's gotta be just a matter of time until FOL comes out.
It may be far fetched but I'm starting to think the most powerful force in getting tv dvds released is Family Guy.
