A co-worker told me since she is not going anywhere out of town, she doesn't see the point in ever taking a week vacation from work. What about getting a break from the Daily Routine? That sounds dumb to me. I have ten days off in September and i'm not traveling anywhere. I just have 10 days to do whatever i want to do. Comments?

I totally agree with you. Sometimes I take a random day off just to relax.

Its not dumb.
What's the point of taking a large amount of time off if you're not going anywhere?
Sure I can see taking a day or two off. Maybe take Friday and Monday off and have a 4 day weeking, but thats about it. I'd rather save my vacation time for when I do decide to go somewhere.

Because you don't have to get up early for one week. Take care of personal business and whatever else you can;t do during the day while you are at work.

How is that dumb? It's just taking a break to relax.

I hardly ever take time off work because I never go away on holiday. I take the odd day here and there but what's the point of taking a week/2 weeks off if all I'm going to be doing is sitting around the house being bored?
Besides, if I'm sitting at home all day I'll drink more which means that, not only am I screwing myself up, I'm also spending more money on drink than I normally would.
I think it's perfectly logical to keep working if you're not going anywhere in particular.

I agree, That's what I do too, I take a couple weeks in the summer and Christmas just to relax at home.

Many companies insist on their employees taking the time off. People do need a change of pace, even if it is spent tinkering around the house. You are still away from the hustle and bustle of the work environment.
I, myself, will be taking off next week. What will I be doing? Staying home, or going out, or whatever. More importantly, I will NOT be working.
It may not be a "vacation" but it is definitely a "break" from your routine.
