Also, how far is it roughly from Marina Del rey to Santa Monica?

According to my map, Marina Del Rey is right on the Pacific. It's only about 5 miles south of Santa Monica.

A low-rise building means the building isn't very tall. Like only a few stories high instead of a skyscraper which has a lot of floors.

so how much in time (minutes) would it take to get to santa monica.
What is Marina area like? Beaches? Safe?

I hear Marina de Rey is a really expensive area...That's basically where all the wealthy people live.

If you like boats then you will love Marina del Rey, which is an upscale community near LAX...

I know they used to dock at Marina del Rey quite often on The Love Boat. I have been there & its a very nice place to visit. A lot of nice houses or should I say mansions.

Marina Del Rey... Expensive. Pretty. Pretty expensive. Boats. Yes, it is a marina; that's not just a fancy name. I take the bus to MDR from Santa Monica; it takes about 30 minutes one-way. Lots of areas of MDR are not particularly pedestrian-friendly, with lonnnng blocks and few crosswalks/traffic lights. With L.A. traffic, that's not such a good thing. Good, I guess, for bicyclists.

Low-rise buildings: Yes, no skyscrapers. None of those anywhere by the ocean in L.A.; it's against the law to be too tall. But MDR has plenty of buildings that are pretty big; lots of residential complexes. It has been growing and growing through the years.

I don't live far Marina Del Rey. No, it's not far from Santa Monica, and like most of the coastal cities in southern California, most of it's inhabitants are upper middle class.

ah.. I'd love to live in MDR.

That's not true, trust me. Most of us ARE middle class, some are upper-middle, some are lower-middle, most are somewhere in between and/or leaning toward the lower end. Come take a stroll through Santa Monica sometime... lots of folks are just struggling to get by. I'm sure the same can be said of Venice, Marina Del Rey, and other areas. Don't think that "posh" communities are 100% posh. That is rarely the case.

I have to agree with Mysty Eyes, my brother lives in the Marina and he is not rich. I mean anywhere you live in that area of Los Angeles (the westside) is going to cost. It is a nice area, close to the beach, my brother walks my niece down there, close to Venice, Loyola Marymount University is near, close to LAX, its on the otherside of Culver City which is where Sony Pictures is located. UCLA is nearby, it has its good parts and it has its not so good parts. Its always cool in the area.

Oh yeah I agree. But it depends on which area of Santa Monica you go right?

And your right L.A. is a mixture of all kinds of areas good and not so good. For instance I love the area North of La Brea and Wilshire as you go towards Sunset around the Beverly Center, UCLA and parts of Culver City. There are even some great areas around Fairfax and then you go in another direction it is run down.

thanks guys for replying to my post, the reason i ask is because i'm looking at apartments in that area, so im just doing a bit of homework ;)
