Who can naturally cry well on TV???

My pick was Betty Buckley of Eight Is Enough. Her theatre training paid off well in her role as Abby when she expressed her vulnerability. Her performances many times moves me to tears.

Another person who natural at crying is Mary Tyler Moore. Her tearing up and doing "Oh Rob," was so natural and real. At the same it was funny without overkilling it.

Nancy McKeon's actually been nicknamed "Fawcet Face" by coworkers

I think Sarah Michelle Gellar is pretty good she was excellent except in that stupid buffy ep "Triangle" but other than that she was wonderful.

Off the top of my head: Lucy of course, Nell Carter was always a good cryer, & definately Judith Light (I'm not going by her role on Who's the Boss? but her role on One Life to Live - her famous courtroom scene says it all) & I have to agree with you JP - Jon Cryer is one of the best cryers :lol:

IMO, TV's best cryers aren't in primetime. They are DEFINATLY in daytime! Susan Lucci! Deidre Hall! Melody Thomas Scott! The best cryer TV has ever seen, imo, is Kim Zimmer, who has played Reva Shayne Lewis on "Guiding Light" since 1984, with a break from 1990 to 1995.

Erika Slezak. The women can cry sao convinclingly that not only does she have 5 Daytime Emmy Awards (and 9 nominations) but TV Guide once called her "The only actress that could actually, compete with and possibly beat Meryl Streep."

Julia Rose Barr. 2 Daytime Emmys, Eight Nominations. A loyal following and years of expierence. shes one of the best, most natural cryers on tv.


Nancy Lee Grahn. From Santa Barbara To General Hospital this women can CRY!

Heather Tom. A favorite on "The Young and The Restless" for years, she is crying up a storm everyday on "One Life To Live"

and in the day Judith Light was daytime tv's most natural cryer. Her 1980 courtroom scenes are so moving and powerful they have been named one of televisions most memorable scenes. as well as Daytime tv's #1 memorable scene.

Charlene Tilton on "Dallas".

Christine Baranski on "Cybill" although she played drunk more often, when she had to cry she was very good at it.

Kelly Ripa on "Hope and Faith", if she needs to cry she can do it well. she also did a great job on "All My Children" as Haylee Vaungh-Chandler-Santos.

I LOVE Laura's crying!! IMO, she's TV's Best Crier with Lucy Ricardo in a close second!;)

I always thought Charles Ingalls cried more than Caroline did!! Whenever there was an emotional scene, I always said "Oh, here come the waterworks!!". When Albert joined the cast, it was twice the tears when they did a scene together!!

What about Half Pint, Laura Ingles? Especially impressive since she was so young.

Easy.. Belle Black from Days of our Lives ( Martha Madison).. She is a major winer .. I used to like her but lately she been such a wine butt.....She only think's of herself and doesn't let anyone eles be happy on that show! ... hehe

I would have to go with Lucille Ball, and Mary Tyler Moore. The worst cryer would have to be Gloria Bunker from All In The Family. Overall, I liked her character, but couldn't stand her when she'd start crying.

I don't like when anybody has an over the top crying episode on today's sitcoms. I think it's one of the most tired, and overdone cliches in television history. The stars of today should leave the crying to the experts.

i'd go with Melissa Gilbert(Laura) on Little House on the Prairie. there wasn't a episode where Laura could not find a reason to cry buckets of tears.. even Melissa Sue Anderson(Mary) would sometimes cry too like when Mary went blind. Kimberley McCullough on General Hospital could also bring out the waterworks sometimes.

I was always pretty impressed by Maureen McCormick's ability to cry on The Brady Bunch. For someone so young at the time she did really good job.

And a vote for Shirley Booth as Hazel. Whenever I see her cry, I can't help but recall her magnificent performance in the film Come Back Little Sheba. I always enjoyed her on Hazel, but it's always nice to see an actor's body of work and gain an appreciation of their "life before sitcoms". ;)

The reason i mentioned Melissa Gilbert was one time, Laura's dog died and Laura was so heartbroken over the loss of her dog. I've never seen a actress cry so much over losing a dog like Melissa Gilbert did in that episode There was also her impassioned plea to the congregation about a visitor. They don't make a actress like her anymore!

The soap The Doctors has a few of those too! Jennifer Houlton as Greta and Jada Rowland as Carolee cry a lot. And in recent times, Rebcca Herbst as Elizabeth on General Hospital.

Dana Delany as McMurphy on China Beach fits this trope too.

I agree with both of these points. Lucy and Mary (on both of her shows) were clearly the best and no one else is close. As far as the second part goes, the worst that I've seen at over the top fake crying is Will Ferrell. I don't find him funny at all.

Joanna Kerns on Growing Pains is a great crier. On the episode where Maggie's father dies, Joanna was sensational. All the Lifetime movies she did also required her to cry and show a lot of emotions and she did.
Deidre Hall from Days of our Lives is an amazing crier. She has said that she allows herself to feel the emotions of a scene, rather than forcing the tears to come. That's incredible.
Jane Leeves from Frasier was really allowed to let herself shine in the episode where Niles has his heart surgery. Daphne just loses it and breaks down crying, it was incredible.

Same thing with Dana Delany on "China Beach." Whenever McMurphy's eyes started welling, either me or mom would say "uh-oh, here come the waterworks!!" Same thing with Kellie Martin on "Life Goes On" like during the HIV storyline.
