View Full Version : In the episode the Mural, Why did Florida have a problem with James spending money
TVFactFan 08-21-2004, 06:06 PM that was in Thelma's college fund when She was not working? It wasn't like she was bringing any money into the household-lol James was always in and out of jobs so sheshouldhave understood why he had to go into ThelmA's college fund to support the family sometimes.

I guess she was expecting James to save the money that was in the college fund; instead of using it to pay for the bills, etc..

But besides that, I watched this episodetoday, and really liked it, especially at the end when the bank revealed JJ's mural; I have to agree it was pretty awful, but I liked how James stood up for his son..and there was this girl who was part of the crowd...she was very pretty with long hair, and she had like the most beautiful scarf, that she had drapped around her head...it was a gorgeous style...

But Like James said, between Florida's galbladder operation and J.J's dentist bill he had no choice but to dip into the account. I liked when he called J.J a "RAGGITY MOUTH RASCAL"!!!!-LOL LOL LOL

I agree-LOL But J.J should have had more to since to paint something else for a bank. That painting was not appropiate at all.

I agree; the bank president wanted JJ to paint a mural that display a life in the ghetto, but in a positive perspective, but instead he got a mural with men playing pool, which was quite tastless

I have not watched the entire DVD yet; I am still on the second disc..the only compliant I can say is the JJ character became more obnoxious during the 3rd season, and now I can see why everybody might think that Michael bats for the other team...

When you get to the last episode on disc two, let me know what is the very beginning of the episode-"A Place to Die" I recorded it last week off UPN and my beginning starts with J.J talking on the phone.

Actually I am looking forward to seeing that particular episode; and I will see if any of the scenes are different from TV-One...Right now I am on a Loss of Confidence, which I have not seen...it looks interesting though...

No i didn;t buy the DVD because aired the entire third season of Good Times UNCUT except for A Place to Die. So it would be silly for me to spend $30 for one episode-lol And Thelma's friend is in the same category as her in the looks dept.

I am complete on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Seasons (of course, because I have them on DVD:lol: ) but I have two from the fourth season, none from the fifth, and two eps from the sixth...I really want to see the first episode from Good Times 4th season, when the Evan's family finds out that James has been killed; I know that sounds terrible, but it looks like the most dramatic episode out of the entire series...

The only dramatic parts in part 1 and 2 of the Big Move is when they are informed about James death and when Florida's says her famous Damm Damm Damm. other than it was not dramatic.

knl9674 08-23-2004, 10:03 AM i have to agree with you, I thought the mural was excellent, but in very poor taste for a bank. a pool hall for a corporate office? don't see the connection. i do agree that even though it wasn't what dude wanted, he honestly didn't specify (hello, you are dealing with a ghetto artist) exactly what he was looking for. regardless, he needed to pay up and then could pay someone else to create an image more in line with what he was looking for.
BTW: what do you think woulda been more appropriate? ghetto kids with raggedy pigtails playing in a water hydrant?
nerrad 08-24-2004, 08:57 AM The thing that bothered me was how could they not tell JJ what to paint. That's common sense. If you hiring someone to work for you, there are going to be instructions. Or was it those dreaded writers again?:D Also, the mural looked bad for a bank.

Exactly what did the bank manager expect from a "17" year old when he asked him to paint a mural on ghetto life? What exactly did he expect to see? JJ could only paint what was in his mind and experience from life in the ghetto. JJ wasn't too intelligent, remember. So if someone told him to paint something from his point of view, even if it was for the White House, they were getting a mural of a pool hall.

laneyday 08-28-2004, 08:31 AM I'm always the first one to say you can't compare beauty because each individual is different. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so true. It's her smile that throws me off.:(
