View Full Version : What Sitcoms Are Ending in 2005??
barwars 08-20-2004, 05:05 PM What "long running" shows are ending next summer??
I know for a fact that That 70's Show is ending.
I've also heard about Will & Grace stepping down.
How about anything else??
Dean Winchester 08-20-2004, 05:07 PM Raymond will be put out of it's misery too.
I just hope there's some new good sitcoms to take off.
If not... outside of the animated shows, Arrested Development and Scrubs... the sitcom will be officially dead come 2005-2006 unless we can find a huge sitcom.
I have a feeling (hope) that reality is going to play out soon

I meant sitcoms that aren't entirely bad.

Joey will be a success for sure, it has a built-in audience, and from what Ive read its doing pretty good with critics.
ABC's current batch may stay around, but nothing is really standing out. (but I dont see either of their new shows lasting)
CBS's new shows sounded good, but I dont think Listen Up will be a success. Center Of The Universe is a tossup. As for their returning series, all they have is The King of Queens (any idea when they plan on ending this?), Two and A Half Men (which will run stale soon, they should've made the son younger) and Still Standing -- which about 4 people have heard of.
Mr. Television 08-20-2004, 05:44 PM King Of The Hill might end.

FOX's only successful animated show I dont like.
Maybe because its about rednecks, but still -- glad to see it go.
It's very sad that King Of The Hill is still in production, yet Futurama isn't.

So true :(
I've never been able to watch King of the Hill and loved Futurama.

I find it funny that so many people hate Everybody Loves Raymond yet critics can't get enough of it. It's won a few Emmys, Golden Globes, and SAGS. I too don't like it but it seems like everyone here can't stomach it.
factsoflife 08-20-2004, 07:48 PM Actually NBC has yet to make an official decsision regaurging "Will and Grace". the rumors started because the shows contract with NBC and the actors end at the end of the season. Also the obvious dip in quality and ratings. But NBC has reached no official decsision. If NBC can convince all of the actors to sign on again it will come back, if not then we can kiss it goodbye. believe me if it was official it would have had some SERIOUS press coverage. and so far i've heard not a single word about anything official.

what about it is better than Friends? Ray Ramano and Brad Garrett are hands down the two most unappeling, ugly and annoying actors to ever star in a tv show, and I hate the way they both sound when they talk, they make Fran Drescher sound bearable.

As you know, I prefer Friends ten times over ELR.
But one arguement you made in that post really irks me.
I dont think a persons looks should define whether or not a show is any good.
For example, I think Roseanne is very unattractive (not the ugliest woman in the world, but definately not the prettiest)
But I think Roseanne is one of the best shows ever.
Brad Garrett isnt too bad (he deserves better)
But Im just not a fan of Ray Romano, next to the "blue collar comedy" guys, he's my least favorite comic.

Well if you only go by looks then I guess Friends would win hands down ( Although I happen to think Patricia Heaton is hot). I happen to like sitcoms that have a good story behind it. I'm sorry but the Rachel-Ross will they or won't they storyline was just getting old. Phoebe was won of the most anoying characters ever on a sitcom. The only one I really liked on Friends was Courtney Cox. I don't watch ELR much but I do like the chemistry between the stars and Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle are a riot. I prefer anyone of the cast of ELR to anyone on the cast of Friends anyday. As for Fran Drescher's voice, I needed a good laugh.

I agree. If you are judging shows by looks, than yes, Friends would win, but that's kinda sad if one of the reasons you think a show sucks is because someone is unattractive. I happen to like both ELR and Friends. The problem here is that certain people can't accept that some like ELR more than Friends. Just because some may like Friends more, doesn't mean all will. Shocker, I know!

I don't know, I think Doris Roberts is sexier than Aniston, Kudrow, and Cox.

SO?
If you watch a show for how someone looks, that's kinda sad.
Personally I don't think Fran Drescher sounds all that bad, believe me I know people who sound much worse than she does.

Yeah but awards doesn't always mean a show is great, there are shows out there, that I've scratched my head like "why in the heck did that show win".
I don't like ELR, but I love Friends, there's alot of Friends haters here, I guess I can see why they don't like Friends, but it still baffles me :)

It doesn't mean anybody's wrong, its just that we prefer different shows. I just don't base what I like on someone's looks.
Melonhead00 08-24-2004, 03:28 PM Nice try, but I must say that the comedies (i.e.: Arrested Development, Grounded For Life, etc.) may become aborted before the first episode can even air.
Any show name that begins with the letter "J", then the chancs of a program being aborted (canceled) outright before the second year or have aired a MINIMUM of 44 episodes over two years is approximately 1 in 25.
Such shows NOT in this equation are:
The Jeffersons (1975-1985) aired 253 episodes in color
The Jamie Foxx Show (1996-2001) aired 100 episodes in color, and
The John Larroquette Show (1993-1996) aired 78 episodes in color
The televison season starts for NBC Universal immediately after the Olympic Games of the 28th (XXVIIIth) Olympiad which is M30.08.2004 (Monday, the 30th of August 2004) and other networks as early as Su20.09.2004 (Sunday, the 20th of September 2004) and will end as late as Su22.05.2005 (Sunday, the 22nd of May 2005).

gOoSe 08-25-2004, 12:26 AM the only good thing on ELR is Doris but i want to talk about the show i WILL miss
That 70's Show. it became my go-to show after BMW ended so it ending kinda..makes me a little sad but at the same time it's time for it to go.
That 70's Show and BMW are too much alike...lol

umm.. I don't like ELR because I can't stand it. Ray Romano could be an adonis and I'd still think the show sucks. I don't like the characters, I don't like any of the cast except Doris Roberts. I can care less about how they look, but I do find the cast unattractive, but it's not the big reason why I don't watch it
You overemphasized "ugly", what about annoying and unappealing? The cast of the OC is attractive AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN EPISODE. You should know by now that I'm a FOL and Roseanne fan, we all know that Roseanne, John Goodman and Mindy Cohn have never won beauty contests, but yet I still liked them. So don't get off telling me the only reason I dislike Raymond is because the cast is ugly.
