View Full Version : The Gooch

Sorry if this has been covered already but there's WAY too much history to read everything. My question is this:

Does anyone know if the character, The Gooch, was ever revealed on the show? I'm having an argument with my brother where he sides the gooch wasn't shown, but I believe he was. I could have sworn there was a scene where Arnold finally confronts the gooch in the bathroom and when the Gooch opens the stall, it's this little kid with glasses. Am I imagining things?

Someone settle the score! Thanks, very cool site.

How confident are you on that? Is there any way you can back that up? I remember/read that there was two episodes where the Gooch appeared, in season 2 and 8. And in one of them, it (another fan site quote) stated that a friend of Arnold's (a girl) confronted or beat up the Gooch.

I also posted this question elsewhere and someone stated the exact same vision I had but swears the Gooch was an overweight kid with glasses and freckles. So far, both sides have been defended and I'm at square one. Thanks for the help though.

I watched every ep of Different Strokes and the Gooch was never seen.

So I have nothing to go on but your word? Do you own every episode or are you just pretty sure you've seen every episode? How is it that the Gooch gets confronted by Arnold's friend - which was obviously a joke that a girl could take the Gooch but not little Arnold - but not actually seen? You're telling me it's all off camera and just plain suggestive?

I find it hard to believe but my ideal answer would be yours for the context of what I'm looking for. I'd rather it be mysterious but I thought the writers had a sense of humor about it.

It seems my only satisfaction would be is if I had a copy of those two episodes or one of the writers/producers told me personally.

You know what, so did I. Or at least when people
ask me, "Hey! Did you ever watch Diff'rent Strokes?",
I would answer, "Yeah, I've seen like every episode!"

Not remembering, and not having physical evidence
doesn't give me a secure answer. If you're really
certain that it didn't happen you might be able to back
that comment up a little better.

Sorry if I'm coming off as a jerk, but I need concrete
evidence of some sort. I need to contact a producer
or a writer.

Maybe I'll contact Gary Coleman - he shouldn't be busy.

Ok, run-on sentence. Try using punctuation.

If you could point me to an article or a producer or SOMEONE involved in the show - that would suffice me good. The problem is that word of mouth or a personal account from someone I don't know isn't so convincing. Your argument is the same as everyone elses.

It doesn't matter. Like I said, I'm happier knowing that he ISN'T seen, but I just wanted to get something concrete to tell me so.

But since you're a senior member on here, I'll take your word on it. That must mean something if you're a veteran on THIS site.

FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: NO MORE REPLIES. I WON'T BE HERE TO HEAR THEM.

I'm back!

See, if someone owned the entire set and has it catalogued in their home - it makes for a better point than word of mouth. I don't know you. Or anyone on this site. How is your word reliable if I have no accountability of your character?

I realized it afterwards but I keep bringing up multiple points from different angles and all I'm getting is a firm "I've watched every episode." Sorry. That doesn't cut it. If I could hear it from someone behind the scenes - a producer, a cast member, or just someone involved - I would be convinced. I don't know how many times I had to repeat myself. I was hoping more or less someone of that nature would reply. But I got you guys...

Sorry if I offended you. But seriously - take an English course. If you spent half the time watching Diff'rent Strokes learning grammar and spelling instead, you'd make this argument a lot more compelling. Calling ME a stupid jerk. Listen to you, dope!

And besides, if you can't handle an argument - that's YOUR weakness. Be prepared to be challenged - that's life.

If aren't going to accept people's answers then why in the hell are you asking?

Find the addresses of the writers and write to them, but I'm willing to bet you won't believe them either, cause you're nothing but someone who thinks he/she knows it all.

Next time don't bother asking any questions they won't be answered. People here were nice enough to answer your questions and you were too much of an idiot to accept the answer so:

I also laughed when he said needed real proof. Someone saying they saw every episode of DS and never saw the Gooch wasn't enough proof?-LMAO

Actually, that would be perfect! Because then, I could see it for myself. And if the producers told me, that would work, too. That's what I had said from the get-go. But apparantly you folks have been filtering that stuff out.

Actually, no it isn't - that was my whole argument. I wasn't monitoring you watching every episode. If I was, I wouldn't have asked.

And Cry Baby Soup? What the hell is that?! It's not even witty.
And I'm a know-it-all? What are you 12?

Listen, I think you kids are missing the point. I WAS gracious for the replies and your comments (minus the really childish ones, although, I had my share...) but I had realized AFTER I proposed the question that it wasn't really going to be answered here. Maybe you're comfortable taking stranger's accountabilities straight off the bat but I needed something more concrete. AND NO, you repeating yourself doesn't make it any more solid.

I don't back away from an argument (even though I'm the only one who seems to be making points here) - that's why I returned. So stop taking offense (except the guy who can't write).

Lighten up and I will too.

i think its really funny that he called us kids im the oldest one here on this board at this moment according to our profiles and hes younger then almost all of us here. he gave me an idea a shuld change my sn from snl 75 to the guy who cant write that way you all would know it was me he shuld change his to i love to make fun of people and make them feel bad because i apperently dont like my self very much any way lets not stoop to his level i think all of us kids have better things to do. ha ha. well the the guy who cant write who by the way got stright a ;s and bs in grammer all through school not to meniton a creataive writing award for a story and who is just a little rusty about things like this and who has a life outside here like all of us . the guy who supposedly cant write is going to take his nappy now and then when i get up im going to have milk and cookies before my glass of wine with dinner nite nite

Ok, I'm sorry. What you just wrote proves that you are a master of the English language. I can see how you got straight "a ;s and bs." Of course, when you're in special classes, there's always a little leeway.

And yes, I called you guys kids...

...but age has nothing to do with it.

once and for all i would like to know what i or anyone here has done to make you hate it here so much i know you didnt mean anything by calling us kids i was trying to be funny if you dont get subtile humour im sorry but if your half as smart as you say you are why didnt you just for ds. writers in the first place i or anyone here would have been more then happy to help . as a matter of fact even as nasty as you have been to me and as hurtful ill still give you some ds writers names i dont have any adresses but you could find them on the web the person who was produrcer during the time of the gooch ep was howard leeds the head writer was ben starr there was also martan cohn if you want to go right to the top berine kukoff and jeff harris were the creators of the show i hope this helps because we are tired of your harrassment if you want to act decient and quit making fun of us then all of us here would be glad to have you as a member if not get out of here and by the wayas for callingyou a stupid jerk i only ment that you were acting like one people would like you alot better if you didnt act like like that im sorry that you seem to hate me but i half to tell you that i asked people here the other day if any of them had a problem with me and they are eather lying throught thier teeth or or think you just have some sort of chip on your shoulder because im staying if you have a problem with that tough but im a little too old to fight with someone 8 years younger then me i mean i would think at your age you would respect people who sometimes know more then you well ive said enough i hope my list helps if it doesent i dont know what to tell you

chuk

Ok. First of all, I don't HATE you. Hate's a strong word. I don't even dislike you. The names you dropped were VERY helpful. And I will try and contact them and find out for myself.

Your humor is subtle, cause apparantly it went right over my head. But I was trying to be campy myself - obviously, I came on too strong. I apologize, sincerely. I hold NO grudges, nor did I ever have any. Any fan of Diff'rent Strokes is a friend of mine.

I'm sure Mr. Drummond would have taken us boys aside and held one of us in his lap and explained the ideals of people learning to disagree with one another (of course while some sentimental music played in the background). That's how he'd want it. ;)

I only joined this site for the one question, which you've helped tremendously in my search. Now, I can continue and hear it from the makers themselves. I'm sure a lot of people like you on this site. Don't let a douche-bag like myself ruin it for you.

And if you ever wondered why I was so interested in knowing this is because I'm putting a band together (which I would like to name The Gooch) that only does covers of the greatest television show theme songs... as well as popular commercial jingles. Diff'rent Strokes being one of them. For the artwork and logo design I wanted to make sure that The Gooch remained a mystery and was faceless - that was our identity, so to speak.

Hope you enjoyed your nap. You needed it. Now maybe, we can shake on it...

Thanks again!

Why are you being so hostile with all these folks? You asked them a question and they answered... the gooch was never shown, your brother was correct
