I took the bait, went over to TV Land's message board, and began a spirited debate with the person who's been bashing Freddie and his death. The last jab? This person (I'm assuming he's a guy, because he posts like one) insinuated that there was something wrong/bad/maybe even raunchy about the screen name I used over there: chicosgirl.

I tried changing it, and the system wouldn't let me; first, though, I'd like to know exactly what's wrong with it. I hope he knows I realize that chico is a masculine term. (I took Spanish for seven years between Junior High and college, and I've let much of it lapse, unfortunately, but I still know basic grammar and the fact that chico means boy. I chose that screen name in the context of chico'sgirl, you know? But of course, you can't use an apostrophe in screen names. And I don't choose the best screen names late at night, which is when I went over there and started sparring with the guy.

Well, now it's too early in the morning, and I'm rambling. Just let me know, please, if there's something terribly wrong about this screen name that I'm too stupid to discern.

... your screen name over there shows you are passionate, not stupid. I have learned long ago, ignorant opinionated people like that can't have their minds changed, so why bother. I know that may sound like a policeman's exit (a cop-out! LOL thanks Chico for the joke) but it isn't really. I think we should post how we feel on any forum, but don't think you are going to change this person's mind. And DON'T let what he says back to you get to you, even tho it is hard not to. You are appreciated here, victorianscribe. For every one stupid person like him there are hundreds of loving people like us in the world. The odds are in our favor, sweetie!:D

BTW when kids pick on other kids in school, I always tell them that within the word "IGNORANCE" you find the word "IGNOR(e)" so we should take a lesson from that and learn to ignore ignorance! :)

I can't help but think this guy has a chip on his shoulder, some kind of issue he's not dealing with ... an issue which has nothing to do with Freddie or Chico. He seems like a hostile person. Why else would he be so determined to post against a show he doesn't like? I mean, if his worst nightmare happened and TV Land began running Chico again, he could just change the channel, couldn't he?

BTW, Cheryl, I think TV Land's message boards can be a little tricky to navigate. Go to the main site, click on Message Boards, and a whole bunch of them will come up. Near the bottom of the list of message boards, you'll find one that says Programming Suggestions. There's also one specifically for Chico and the Man, which you'll find listed, but the arguments we're discussing are taking place under Programming Suggestions. The thread where I'm having all the "fun" with this guy is called Chico, He's Our Man. Good luck finding it.

So you were Chicosgirl. I thought in a way that was someone from here. I want to thank you for coming over there to help out. My intention of asking everyone to go over there was not to fight with him, but to kinda put him out. Post all the positive reasons the show should be on, honored, and remembered and show him that he is outnumbered. It hasn't seem to work much so far, but hopefully, he will find someone else to pick on soon.

No, there's nothing wrong with your name. Just says that you like the show and you want to show your support. This guy is on almost every post over there belittiling and ridculing anyone who doesn't agree with him. Sad really because you'd think he would have better things to do. Just please don't let him stop you from showing your support. We need all the positive people we can get over there to really make a difference! :D

It occured to me that there might be two things going on here. It is obvious this guy is always spoiling for a fight, so maybe he reads things really quickly and jumps right in with a mean reply.

Maybe he misread "chicosgirl" to say "chico IS girl"--but since he sooo dislikes the show, why would he care if you were insulting Freddie? So that is probably not it.

The other explanation is that maybe he is trying to say it would have been impossible for you to be "Chico's girl" (girlfriend), but duh...right LOL? And why would he imply that was a vulgar thing, to wish you had been?

There is a third clue at the end of the post, where he addresses you as "chico y chica" (boy AND girl). Perhaps it is simply that he is mocking you for what he thinks is your ignorance of Spanish. Of course he is VERY wrong there, and you can take comfort in that fact.

I think it is a great honor to have that as a nickname. You are showing your true dedication to a classic show and Freddie who protrayed Chico. I get alot of wired remarks regarding my yahoo screen name and the name I use here. They think I'm missing spelling it when they nay not realize the meaning behind it. That doesn't bother me...

Thanks again for your support, everyone. I'm starting to see that this guy seems to be an all-around critic and troublemaker -- not just of Freddie, though he seems to have a special disdain for dear Freddie.
