View Full Version : How could anyone say Mr. Furley was funnier than the Ropers?
nightowl 11-28-2000, 10:35 PM The ropers were most of the reason i watched the show, they were hilarious and had great chemistry as a honemooners type of couple. mr. furley was way overrated as a ropers replacement but the dynamics in the show was gone after the ropers left. they should of been brought back to the show after there series was cancelled and they could of also filled the void after summer's firing.
Precious 12-04-2000, 04:15 PM Yeah the Ropers were a lot funnier than Furley. These two are so funny. They are my favorite characters on Three's Company.
JamesTR 12-04-2000, 04:38 PM I agree there, I like the Ropers better then Furley. Their much more funnier. Of course they are, they got a chance for their own series! ^_^ But Mr. Roper's "Camera Mug" thing is silly...
Precious 12-06-2000, 04:28 PM Yeah, the Ropers rule. I loved the way Roper smiled like an idiot after picking on his wife. His tinkerbell impression toward Jack made me laugh. The Ropers constant bickering and marital disputes made me laugh. I felt bad for Mrs. Roper cause her husband didn't show a lot of affection towards her. But Mr. Roper always made me laugh when he said,"Not tonight Helen." everytime his wife wanted to do "you know what!" The Ropers rule and that's the end of story. Sure, Furley was funny, but the Ropers will always be my favorite landlords and characters. VIVA the Ropers!!
Pitooey 02-16-2001, 07:35 PM If the Ropers were so funny than why did their sitcom fail? I LIKED MR. FURLEY!

I don't think The Ropers failed. Spin-offs don't last a long time. Plus the Ropers left their show because I heard they had better offers for some movies.
Pitooey 02-22-2001, 06:54 PM Some spin-offs last a long long time, Take for instance Laverne & Shirley & Mork from Ork.
Pitooey 02-22-2001, 06:55 PM Lets not forget the Jeffersons and Maude........
Precious 02-24-2001, 07:28 PM Daria is a spin-off from Beavis and Butthead, and it's been on for about 4 years.
Cokies 02-24-2001, 07:47 PM Even though you guys already know this... 'The Facts of Life' was a spinoff of 'Diff'rent Strokes' and FOL ran a couple seasons longer than DS.
And about the Ropers being funnier than Mr.Furley... I could'nt agree with you more.

What's Diff'rent Strokes? I hear it's a funny 80's show and it's airing on Revenge of the 80's week. I can't wait to see those shows. I haven't seen Alf and Silver Spoons in years. I'll enjoy watching Facts of Life(which is my 2nd favorite show on NickatNite). I can't wait to see Square Pegs. I've never seen the show, I don't know what's the show about, plus I heard Sarah Jessica Parker was on that show too. I wish Nick at Nite would air Punky Brewster, Webster, and Small Wonder during the 80's week. Those were my favorite shows when I was a kid.

square pegz is horrible. come on Diff'rent Strokes is with Arnold. Where the rich white man takes in Arnold and Willis (two black kids). Look into Edna Garrett's roots she was the house keeper in the show. Webster is a Arnold wannabee who wasn't at nowhere near as funny as Gary Coleman. I like Small Wonder I remember when it was on FOX. Punky Brewster wasn't bad. If U ask me I think they should Silver Spoons on the Full line-up like they did to Diff'rent Strokes, which starts on March 12 at 8:30 mon-thurs. repeats of 8:30 eps. at 5:30AM.Sat and Sunday morning at 5:30AM.
Precious 02-27-2001, 12:40 PM Oh, how horrible is Square Pegs? I found out that Facts Of Life is a spin-off from Diff'rent Strokes, so I'll probably enjoy the show. I can't wait till Sunday.
fatima 02-27-2001, 02:12 PM square pegs is one of the best short lived shows ever to air. If your into early 80's new wave you'll enjoy square pegs. Also to see sarah jessica parker, jami gertz and tracy nelson is reason enough!

Yeah, I can't wait to see Square Pegs. I love 80's shows. I was born in 1982, so I guess I was an 80's child. I heard that Sarah Jessica Parker was about 18 when she was on Square Pegs. I bet she had big hair and those funky, 80's clothes.
callmetootie 04-02-2001, 07:41 PM Square Pegs was a failed attempt to show what school live really is like, not like on The Facts Of Life. It latsed for a few years, but the ratinsg were so bad, that CBS had to cancel it. Jami Gertz, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Amy Linker were on it, and it was a bad sitcom.

Pitooey 04-03-2001, 06:59 PM I thought we were talking about Mr. Furley?
allen 04-03-2001, 09:45 PM I'd just like to credit the writers for making two completely different lanlords, even though I think the ropers were funnier. They could have easily tried to recreate them the same way the tried with Jennile Harrison when Suzanne Somers left the show. Furley was more of a goofy loser with a high opinon of himself, while the Ropers were a funny pre-cursor to Married With Children-minus the kids and alot older. The Ropers also had more than that one sex joke, there were also jokes about Stanley being cheap. In addition, Helen had the best lines most of the time while Stanley had one every now and then with his cheeesy yet cute camera mug. Furley's goofy personality was funny at times but the whole thing with Jack pretending to be gay just didn't work anymore to me with Furley since he's kind of a wimp and not portrayed as a gruff man's man set in his ways like stanley roper was.

It failed because it was moved to Family Hour Friday, when everyone's eating. There ratings were Okay, but they were still canceled.

Jack: I'm surprised at you. Where would all the great women of history be if they thought like that!? Look at Joan of Ark and what she accomplished. And, and Florence Nightengale and Madam Curry.
Chrissy: And Lucretia Borzok.
Janet: She posioned people.
Chrissy: Yeah, but she was very good at it.
