What do you think was the purpose in having Dr. Melfi's character being raped???? I am currently re-watching the series and the episode where Dr. Melfi is raped is so frustrating to me (and I'm sure to all the Sopranos fans) because ultimately, nothing happens in terms of closure. i.e., they don't catch him and nothing happens to him. Putting yourself in a "Sopranos" mindset, the next logical thought would be that Dr. Melfi would have confided in Tony, for example, during one of their sessions and he would have "taken care of the situation," so to speak. But nothing happens . . . . hello . . . . what do you think was the purpose in having this horrible even occur and ultimately nothing being done about it??? Was it the producers way of keeping viewers on the edge of their seat wondering if Dr. Melfi was going to seek Tony's help? Was this the producers way of focusing an episode on Dr. Melfi and wanting to show her "fear" of Tony and his power (portrayed in the dream by the rotwieler (sp?) dog)??? What was the purpose in Dr. Melfi not going to Tony for help??? Was it to show that Dr. Melfi was independent and not needful of Tony to track down the rapist and have him "whacked?" Like I said, earlier, it just seems to be very frustrating to the viewers of the Sopranos that this crime happened to Dr. Melfi and it never was solved or "taken care of."
