For most college freshman, dormitory life consists of a twin bed, mini-fridge, and mildewy bathroom shared with dozens of strangers (annoying roommate optional). But Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are not most college freshman. The 18-year-old mini-moguls have decided to skip the claustrophobia-inducing rite of passage when they head to New York University next month, opting instead to live in what the New York Times bills as "the world's biggest dorm room."
The paper reports the recently reunited twins will experience university life from the comfort of their $7.3 million Greenwich Village penthouse condo.
The 5,725-square-foot crib was originally four separate units, which the sisters are combining into one palatial pad that, when finished sometime this fall, will be big enough to host the entire class of 2008.
Each twin will have a wing that boasts a master bedroom, study, and a bathroom with walk-in closet. One will enjoy views of lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, while the other will drink in the cityscape from the Village to the Empire State Building. Other perks include such standard teen fare as a screening room, two guest bedrooms, and a couple extra bathrooms.
"They love the apartment," the pocket-sized pair's publicist tells the Times. "They love the view."
And when the sisters return to their native California, they won't have to give up the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed. The girls can kick back at their brand spankin' new Bel Air mansion, which Ashley found while Mary-Kate was in rehab. Us reports the $3.7 million modern, gated glass-walled property has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a pool, and media room, along with the requisite views of L.A. and the Pacific.
Mary-Kate and Ashley aren't the only former child stars making million-dollar real estate deals. The Los Angeles Times reports Frankie Muniz, 18, is trying to unload his Los Angeles abode of one year for close to $6 million. The nearly 6000-square-foot '20s home, a Mediterranean remodeled into a Tuscan-like villa, has five bedrooms, 5 ½ baths, and a six-car garage (as "Punk'd" viewers know, the "Malcolm and the Middle" star has a weakness for expensive vehicles).
The paper says Muniz is closing in on a deal to buy a nearby four-bedroom, five-bath house for $4 million and change. The property reportedly comes complete with a sophisticated security system guaranteed to keep rabid "Agent Cody Banks" fans at bay.
