Why are there no Emmy nominations for this great show this year? I know it wasn't the show's strongest season, but it was more worthy than most of the "rubber-stamp" nominations that show up every year (i.e. "The West Wing"). This show deserves to compete with the likes of "The Sopranos", "CSI," and "24." And Chiklis deserves to take Martin Sheen's slot in the Best Actor in a Drama Series category for the next couple of years.

What's so bad about The Shield? It's a very interesting show, regardless of the way it portrays this one fictional precinct with fictional characters. I don't know whether or not it was the intention of the show's creators to make it a show casting police in a negative light to send a message that all cops are like that. I think it is more about the characters than law enforcement itself.
And, just because I like it, doesn't make me anti-police. On the contrary, I have an enormous amount of respect for law enforcement officers. My father is one and likes the show as well. It's just entertainment.
