View Full Version : Help With House!!!
PanManX 08-13-2004, 01:36 AM I'm trying to plan out the FOL house on this home architect thing I have on my computer, and I have some questions...
1) If there is no more rooms on the first floor(besides the kitchen), then why is there a brick wall when you walk out the front door?
2) What are the girls' rooms and hallway above? Look at the first floor. There is no more rooms past the right side of the living room, but the door to the girls' hallway is right above the front door. What are their rooms above? They cant just be hanging off the house with nothing under them.
3) How do you get to the attic? Remember Man in the Attic and Another Room.
4) Remember when we saw the upstairs hallway in Dear Apple? Well how do you get to the girls' bedroom from where they were in that scene?
Please help, I really wanna do this floorplan. Thanks alot.

Which season are you talking about? In the Over Our Heads years? Or just Edna's Edibles?
FolFanatic151 08-13-2004, 03:56 PM Sorry, I can't answer your questions, but I would love to see the floor plan if you could figure it out on your program and post a description. This house has driven me crazy. I can't figure it out! Things get even more confusing when the store shuts down, and they apparently do renovations or something. Did they always have that second staircase (the one that went into the kitchen)? It is a most confusing house...
PanManX 08-13-2004, 07:50 PM Jayman, I'm most interested in the Over Our Heads years, but im pretty sure the only thing that changed in those years was the kitchen, and possibly the location of the attic???
Fanatic, I think the staircase in the kitchen leads up to Mrs. Garret's/Beverly Ann's hallway. And the store doesnt shut down until mid 9th season, and the only thing that changed was turning the store into Andy and Pippa's rooms.
Any help with my questions is appreciated. Thanks!!
Warm & Fuzzy 08-14-2004, 12:13 PM Wow, you sure have ME stumped. I can't answer ANY of those, sorry! But I would love to see the finished product. Are you using AutoCad?
80schild.com 08-14-2004, 01:21 PM i've been trying to figure out this one for a long while. one of the things i don't like about the show - the house makes absolutely no sense.
In 62 Pickup - natalie says that they don't have a 3rd floor, hope this helps with you out Paxmanx.
It would make it alot more sense if the girls room was switched with Bev's room. and the window by Jo's bed was over the Season 9 kitchen door.
good luck with the plans, hope to see them too.

That would make alot more sense because the girls closet would be lined up side to side with the living room closet which makes sense.
Also, what would help with making the floor plan is if I knew which way the roof was going in another room besides Jo and Blair's.
80schild.com 08-14-2004, 04:25 PM the new room in that episode isn't really an attic..its on the same level as the bedroom. its basicly a smaler version of the bedroom. in the episode you can see the angled roof at the back - the same way it is in the bedroom - you can also an outcrop in the 'attic' where the girls bathroom is. The entrance to the 'attic' room is on the unseen '4th wall'. The entire house itself isn't that big...
theres alot to figure out - even when i was younger watching this show i noticed how the house made no sense...

PanManX 08-14-2004, 06:55 PM How do you get to the bedrooms from the bathroom in Dear Apple???
PanManX 08-14-2004, 11:25 PM Ok well the living room isnt gonna change so heres a shot...
You can see I changed the wallcolor and the color of the fireplace. It was so ugly before. I also got new furniature.
PanManX 08-14-2004, 11:49 PM kitchen...
it would take forever for me to change the cabinets to the dark wood, but u get the idea...
Warm & Fuzzy 08-15-2004, 01:39 PM Hey, those are pretty darn good, I must say. They've even jolted my memory a bit. :) Keep it up! Which program did you use? I'm assuming it's not AutoCad.

Thanks!! No, im using 3D Home Architect.
PanManX 08-15-2004, 02:16 PM Blair and Jo's room. You cant see the window but its there.
PanManX 08-15-2004, 02:48 PM OK, heres the shop. Pink wasn't one of the color choices, so this is as close as I could get it. Its not that good.

I hope you don't take this offensively, but I find it kind of weird that you see the sky/clouds out from the windows. (She ducks!!!) Just my opinion, though. :)
And by the way, if no other background was available, I can understand that. Just saying. :D
80schild.com 08-16-2004, 11:18 PM they look cool. nice work.
how did you imagin the kitchen staircase and the first landing in the living room staircase to join - and with Bev's room?
Mrs G's or Bev's room was never seen was it? the producers were slackers....

PanManX 08-17-2004, 02:17 PM The two staircases dont meet, but it would make sense if they did. By the looks of it, the set designers hardly even acknowledged the living room when building the new kitchen. Because if that door leads to the basement, that means it is right under the living room steps. Fine. But how can another staircase going upstairs be RIGHT next to it? Cant. So there has to be space in between for Bev's hallway. Thats all that I added.
maryfan5 08-26-2004, 01:21 AM The set seems to have been constructed too arbitrarily without much thought about if it would make sense as an actual real house. Not only did the bedrooms sort of hang in mid-air, so to speak, but the door to the right of the fireplace looked like the front lawn in season 5, then it turned into an enclosed garage for season 8. (tho you could justify it and say they remodeled.)
There was really no reason for them not to show Mrs G's room.
On Golden Girls, every character had their own bedroom set and they were quite elaborate. Loved how Blanche and Rose both had sofas and love seats in their rooms. Dorothy and Sophia got stuck with the simpler bedrooms, which is consistent with the episode where Rose and Dorothy flip a coin to see who got the bigger room...
Facts of Life's attic was over the bedroom in season 6 when kevin was staying there, then morphed into the side of the big bedroom in season 8.
