I don;t know who's idea it was to do a epsode like this but this in my opinion has to be the worst Good Times Episode Of the entire Series. Thoughts Please? This Episode should be on Disc 2 of the DVD

It's the last episode on disc #2 so I probably won't get to it until tomorrow. I haven't seen it in a long time but I think that was a case where the old man was content with his life and knew that it was going to end soon and wanted to be with people who would be in a celebratory mood for New Year's. I don't know, that's the best I can explain it, until I watch the episode again. That never struck me as a bad episode at all, and I wouldn't call it the worst episode ever when there's an episode with that freaky looking monster named Judy Cohen singing Send In The Clowns. :lol:

Don't talk about Judy, That's my Favorite Episode of Season 4. I enjoyed the way she sung Send in the Clowns. BTW, that's another episode TV ONE skipped.

I just watched this and thought it was a very good episode. The positives were that Michael was kind enough to talk to this old man and make him feel like he had a friend, and then JJ and Thelma also got to like him and encouraged Florida to let him stay. So he got to be around a family and have some fun before he died. And Willona's eulogy was cool. I'm still not sure why you think this is the worst GT episode.

The ending was so depressing.

Sorry, I would have to agree with everyone else. I wouldn't say this was the worst episode, it's always been one of my favorites for some reason. The worst part about that episode was dude's makeup. Why did he have to look like a slave?

This was another issue they were dealing with, the elderly (esp the AA elderly) and not having anyone to care for them so they're stuck in overcrowded homes where they are bored and listless. I think it was a very important topic and the fact that the family reached out to him, makes it even better. Wologna's eulogy was one of the highlights of the show and he and Michael doing the hustle was entertaining.

My only problem: They lived in the ghetto. Someone comes to your door acting like they know you, James is gone somewhere for work and you let them in?! That was odd to me. AND he dies in their apartment. EWWWWWWWWW.

I will say that was the only part of the episode that was worth watching. Michael and the old man doing the hustle.

My thoughts are: you have a homeless man who wants to die in a friendly environment as opposed to a cold, loveless old folks home. Life. It happens all around us everyday. Why not show it on t.v. As far as them letting in a stranger while the father was away, it was the seventies, my dear. Yes it was the ghetto but it was also an old man at their door. Take a good look at him. i trust no one...especially in the ghetto...especially in the 70s. and if someone looked like they just escaped from the nearest plantation, hell no...they can speak their piece in the hall.

Even though I haven't bought the 3rd season DVD yet, I do have the other ones, I did like that episode. It was sad in the end. I will be getting it this weekend. I can't wait. :D
