I am usually not the obsessive-compulsive germophobic type. I don't freak out over a little dirt and I certainly could care less if my books and CD's and stuff aren't properly categorized. I don't have a major freak-out if stuff is a little askew or if a person near me sneezes or coughs or something. However, put me in a place involving meal preparation and I become a completely different person. If the place where the food is being prepared isn't sparkling clean or I see the person preparing the food isn't wearing a hairnet and gloves or is coughing and sneezing and touching their face and hair, I can't eat there. I can't eat at a table that hasn't been cleared and wiped off. I see dirt and grease on the counter and I lose my appetite. I've often said something, only to receive weird looks and rude comments from the employees. One thing I don't miss about college is the school cafeteria. That place was the worst! :barf:

Does this sort of thing happen to anyone else?

You mean the one where he saw that Poppy didn't wash his hands after using the bathroom, then was making his pizza?!!

Hey Kristen!! I can't say that I'm that bad when it comes to restaurants, but being a former fast-food manager, I'm much more aware of the way things are done in restaurants--fast food & sit-down. Even something as simple as scratching your face if you're preparing food is not allowed.

You want to hear something gross? I had an employee who was a great employee otherwise but she had a really bad habit of when she was making the sandwiches, and she would get ketchup or mayo or whatever on her fingers, she would lick her fingers. Ugh!!

Our local newspaper prints recent restaurant inspections from local restaurants. There was a cajun place I loved going to. They got an absolutely horrible inspection a few years ago. I haven't gone back since. I don't care if they fixed the violations, it only took that one time.

I play with my dog while cooking sometimes, so you know, whatever.

Boiling/baking kills germs anyway :)

Once I found a fly in my baked potato. The potato was wrapped in foil and the fly was between the foil and the potato.

I hate when you go into a restaurant and find HAIR in your food! It just grosses me out ... why can't people wear hairnets?!

I was once served a ghostly white boiled chicken with f-ing FEATHERS at a pub in England. That's English cuisine for you.

I can go on and on about English food.

In England I had a
crunchy baked potatoe,
Crunchy peas
Cajon chicken that wasn't the least bit spicy
A Frosted donut that wasn't sweet

Do the English not have taste buds or something? Do they not care what stuff taste like?

Its sad when you have to go to McDonalds for a decent meal

They even put BLUE cheese on their pizzas. :barf:

Yeah...Victoria Station is the only place offhand that I can think of that has halfway decent foods.

I'm not really like that. But one time there were ants crawling on the wall of the booth we were in. That was seriously nasty.

If I think about the unsanitary conditions that may go on in the kitchen of restaurants, I would get pretty sick. I try not to think about it because I am squeamish that way. And oh yes, the tables must be very clean when I sit down. If they don't do it right, I don't care... I'll just say, "Missed a spot!"

Hey, Mary... remember when there was that hair in my french fries? :barf:

That reminds me of the first couple hours I was in England. The hotels are really weird over there - when you first check in, you can't check in til 1pm...so they have a luggage room. Anyhoo, after all that was done and said, we went to Victoria Station and ate at the deep pan pizza restaurant there...meangya there was this LOOOONNNNNGGGGGG strand of hair in my soda. I was all ":barf:" when I saw that and asked for a new cup.

Once, at Bob Evans, my dad found a centipede in his food...we haven't eaten there since...

And once, at TGIFridays, we found a tag from like a shirt in our bleu cheese dressing

And once, we went into Wendy's and the guy kept wiping his nose and there were flies EVERYWHERE...yucky

I hate yucky restaurants

Hey, Mary... remember when there was that hair in my french fries? :barf: Yes! WHAHAHA! It was at this old fashioned burger joint next to our old HS. I said "Just eat them! It's probably yours anyway!" I said that in a convincing way just to see what her reaction would be. The reaction wasn't good back then and it probably won't be now.

Also....I was at this pizza place. I was watching my pizza's every move as it was being prepared because I was starved and this dude picked his nose while he was preparing MINE. JERK! I wasn't hungry after that. :barf:

Oh yes. My friend told me that at a local pizza place around here, they spit in their pizza and use moldy dough, they just scrape the mold parts off.

I've told my mom numerous times, but she still gets pizza from there. Ugh. Give me processed Pizza Hut over spit any day.

I never understood what the point was in spitting in the food. Don't they realize if the health department found out they could be shut down?

One time my sister found a fake nail and a peice of plastic in her mashedpotatoes at a Dennys!

I hate the fast food joints that let you see the people who make your food.

Like, I once went with a bunch of friends to a McDonalds that another friend worked at. He was making my hamburger, and as a joke he started picking wedgies and picking his nose and crap like that. I got so mad at him! And he got fired a week after he started working there!

P.S. Who's the monkey with the Glock? :) I'm best friends with Cashodeen. We went to school together. I first met her in 1st grade, then she transferred from that school but came back in the 7th grade, and that's when our real friendship started. I'm new here...since August 6th.

Yes that does count has HORRID and VILE.

I'm an obsessive-compulsive, paranoid and perfectionist. So, it completely grosses me out if I were to see dirt and stuff everywhere. When I went to Iran, we only ate out once. They have really good Persian restuarants (obviously), but we were so sick of rice, we wanted pizza. So, we go into a nice little restaurant and the guy looks like he doesn't want to serve us and I'm trying to ask him if he can do personal pizzas with vegetables and no meat and stuff and he just looks at me and says "no. read the sign." He told me the size of the pizza and even showed it to me and when ours came...it was a lot smaller. He was such a jerk, and he kept acting as if he didn't want to serve us. My parents got food from a Persian restaurant and brought it in to eat and they kind of ticked him off, but that's still no way to treat us. He gave us these USED disposable cups (they had little sugary drops on them from soda) and food! Oi! The pizza was the worst thing I have ever eaten in my life. The cheese wasn't really cheese, there was no sauce, he put some weird herbs on it and stuff. Not a fun experience....

Oh man! Some of the stories are making me LMAO.

I have one that happened to a friend of mine a long time ago and it wasn't a fast food one...but it is food-related.

Many years ago, they brought a jar of pickles from the supermarket. They went home and then started eating the pickles from the jar. Then at one point, they looked in, and there was a SEVERED FINGER floating in the jar! :barf:

That was soooo gross.

One time I was at a restaurant and I didnt chew my sweet and sour chicken piece enough and it got jammed in my throat.... I was choking for 5 mins before someone came and squeezed my tummy or something and that made it go down...

That was pretty scary........

Im taking full advantage right now of slightly better conditions.... (I hope I can get thru these 4 tabs)

 This is why I love this site. I now have no memory of this, but it’s so on brand for back in the day. I feel like 18-year-old me ate those crinkle fries. And I probably cleared the leftovers of everyone at the table. Bless my metabolism and biliary system of the early 2000s. Is name redacted still open? I miss that place.

Grrross. :grr:

Is it true the chicken is rather bland because it’s all about the sauce? We don’t have a Cane’s in these parts, so I make the copycat version, which of course, I have no idea how it compares. Supposedly Walmart’s Chicken Dipping Sauce is the same. (Not to be confused with Walmart’s Chicken Finger Dipping Sauce, which is supposedly the Chick Fil A copycat.)
