View Full Version : "The Straight Poop"
there is no original worthy quote
i do not care for retrospective episodes. they just do me no good. and i have never been thrilled by rona barrett either. so this episode was not a good one to me.
all the flashbacks were great but, i'd rather see a repeat of the episodes than what this episode was.
the selection of clips is what made me rate it as high as i did. short critique here too.
rating: 4
kismet 08-07-2004, 10:54 AM We disagree on this one. I loved The Straight Poop.
The cameos in it were great. I loved it when Peter Bogdanovich says, "...he's gonna lose", referring to David Addison. Plus, you can't beat having so many of my favorites scenes in one episode. Plus, that great kiss at the end -- my oh my (much better than saying holy s**t  )-- didn't you love the kiss?
I'm with you on this one, Kismet. Yeah, it was a clip show, but it was so clever. Maybe you had to see Moonlighting back in the 80's to get how they poked fun at all the tabloid stories and rumors about the show and Bruce and Cybill. It was a complete parody of the stories of the turmoil on the set, fighting between B&C, that both of them had bodyguards, that Bruce wouldn't do interviews, that they used a soft lens on Cybill. Even that Bruce was losing his hair. (I think they might gotten that one right!) GGC just hit every one of the stories straight on. Besides that, the clips were great and the kiss at the end was terrific. At least Maddie and David made up, not sure about Bruce and Cybill. ;)
Tazmania 08-07-2004, 12:48 PM I like The Straight Poop too, ofcourse the kiss was awsome but I also liked the way they make fun of the gossip about them.
maddie with that piece of cloth before her mouth instead of a soft lens!
Great!..... I don't like Rona Barret though
greetz Taz:wave:
CindyK 08-07-2004, 01:19 PM When I first saw this episode back when it originally aired.... it amused me but I somehow felt cheated....I expected a whole new episode , ya know. But as I have watched it many times since them, my appreciation of it grows....particularly when I sat down and worked on my fan site and did that page of what we loosely call Easter Eggs.... (special inside hidden things that make the scene or moment even better), that is when I really saw how totally clever the writing on this episode was. To think that they could poke such delicious fun at themselves....they hit just about every tabloid rumor out and found a way to work in some reference, some blatant , some more subtle, about it.
And yes that kiss at the end is just oh so sweet. And rather sexy.... and the outtakes on the end are priceless!!!
Tazmania 08-07-2004, 06:39 PM Cindy do you know if it was in this epi where they show all the bloopers?
I have seen that once on BBC, I loved the part where Bruce asks Cybill in a bird scene from A Yuk..: What? Is there poop on me?
I remember that they laughed a lot!
CindyK 08-07-2004, 06:44 PM The bird bloopers occur in the fifth season...and are played in the episode......Shirts and Skins.
Only two episodes of ML show bloopers... The Straight Poop with bloopers mostly from season 1 & 2. And Shirts and Skins have bloopers mostly from season 5. They never really showed any season 3 or 4 bloopers....
Tazmania 08-07-2004, 07:03 PM Too bad I don't have these on tape!
Guess they didn't air them here!
Thanx
kismet 08-07-2004, 08:25 PM Wouldn't it be great if they put bunches of bloopers on the DVDs?
I love bloopers. I never realized that we never saw any season 3 or 4 bloopers on any of the shows, BUT now that you mention it...
It seems that I'm the only Rona Barrett fan here. I even subscribed to her gossip magazines way back when. Of course, some of you are too young to remember her. She was a Hollywood gossip columnist (kind of a benign, general gossiper, not the kind to ruin careers as I recall).
CindyK 08-07-2004, 09:12 PM Rona was fine. I had no problems with her. Does she still do columns? Back in the 70's-80's I think she was even on some of the entertainment news magazines and had a popular column The Rona Report that was syndicated in a bunch of newspapers....
i thought she died a long while back.

Rona's still around. She guest hosted NPR's "Fresh Air" a couple months ago. Don't know how she looks now, but she still sounds the same.
kolchak 08-08-2004, 06:42 AM Yeah, I got this one on a 16 year old video tape somewhere and I gotta tell you, I liked it.
Loved the Remington Steele bit.
Just one question,as a Sydneysider, I never did understand, who the hell is Rona Barrett? Whoever she is I didn't really like her.

Dr. Jazz -- what's NPR's "Fresh Air"? I assume it's a radio show. I haven't seen or heard from her since "The Straight Poop". I thought something might of happened to her.
Kolchak -- she was a gossip columnist based in Los Angeles in the 70's and early to mid 80's. Rona also published two gossip magazines. She was more of a career promoter than a career destroyer.
kismet 08-08-2004, 07:49 AM I double posted. Sorry. It won't let me delete it.

It's a 1 hour radio show that airs on National Public Radio weekday evenings at 7pm. The regular host is Terry Gross. She usually interviews 2 celebrities/newsmakers every show, each interview lasts 30 minutes.
david&maddie4ever 08-08-2004, 11:43 PM My mom has always said that she hates clip shows because she feels cheated...writers put together scenes we've already watched and feel we should watch them again? She's so against them that I tend to agree with her for the most part.
She and I watched this episode a while back, and of course, she didn't like it, but I just loved all the "Easter Eggs" thrown in there. :biglove: The clips weren't really the highlight of the episode for me. There was so much other good stuff going on!
Carina13 08-22-2004, 10:28 AM As I said before, I liked this episode very much. I think they did a perfect selection of great scenes and I laughed a lot with the bloopers.
The kiss, of course, was the best part. They were acting so childish... hahaha But they made it up and in a delicious way!! Great, great kiss!!!!!! :D
Tazmania 08-22-2004, 12:30 PM EVERY KIZZ OF MADS AND DAVES IS DELIZIOUZZZ!!:D

Tazmania 08-22-2004, 03:43 PM Glad I made you laugh Kis!
Hope you're feeling better now!
Hugz Taz
( and I really meant it about the deliziouzzz kizz, because it izzz!)
kismet 08-29-2004, 11:40 AM I loved the way Cybill looked in this episode. Her hair was down and looked very natural - no hair spray! Plus, she looked like she didn't have any makeup on.
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 12:17 PM You're right Kismet, she hardly had any make-up on, they really made it look like they were filming behind the scenes.
I think she looks much younger with her hair down like that.
It makes her girly again.
And Bruce didn't look to bad either, with his shirt hanging out of his pants!
Ofcourse the kiss is what makes the whole episode Wow!
But I am really crazy about the bloopers too.
CindyK 08-29-2004, 12:19 PM I have always thought it was really cute when David comes out of his office at the end of the episode and even though he has had his shirttail hanging out the whole time talking to Rona with the cameras rolling.... when he sees Maddie, he makes the effort to clean up a bit by tucking his shirt in.
kismet 08-29-2004, 12:58 PM I really enjoyed all of this episode.
Cindy - I love the pic under your name. It was right before the great kiss. Cy had no shoes on in that scene so you can really see the height difference between the two. He must be at least 6'. It seems that whenever an interview is given, the reporter talks about how much bigger BW is in person - I think Cybill's height made him seem smaller.
kismet 08-29-2004, 01:05 PM I just have to add that I LOVE THIS SITE.
It's the one I check first every day. You can really talk here about the the most interesting stuff of Moonlighting. Sometimes I hesitate on Cy's or Bw's to say what I really want to say. This site is fun, fun, fun.
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 01:19 PM I agree Kis!
Allthough I don't hesitate to say what I think on Cy's site either.
I mean she an outspoken person herself!
Btw I love it how her leg shows in the interview with Rona, and she doesn't care at all that her skirt is up a little too much (for television that is).
What a cool lady!
And it's funny to know that Bruce IS taller.
Remember when David's talking to the 'tramp' on the phone in 'All Creatures Great and Not So Great'? He's says he's 6'1". I always wondered if that was true, but that's what it says on Bruce's site, too.
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 01:41 PM Can anyone tell me how tall that is in centimeters or meters?
I guess about 1.85?
Dutchie 08-29-2004, 01:59 PM I'm 1,77 m, how tall does that make me in the American way?
CindyK 08-29-2004, 02:02 PM hey...us americans can't begin to tell you what it means in the metric system... LOL sorry.... that is like foreign stuff to us.
Maybe one of you Euro folks can convert.
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 02:10 PM I think a foot is about 30 cm.
That makes you about 5'7" I think,Steph?
You're taller than me!
Dutchie 08-29-2004, 02:12 PM I am? loooooooooooooool:D And Cyb is taller then I?
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 02:21 PM You is!
I'm not sure about how tall Cyb is, but I think she's 1.80.
Let's not forget she was a model!
Dutchie 08-29-2004, 02:25 PM well, then she's only 3 cm taller then I, so you hardly notice it!;)
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 02:36 PM We'll see when we're in London!
We can compare when you stand beside her for a picture......;)
Dutchie 08-29-2004, 02:53 PM I hope so:D
Carina13 08-29-2004, 05:28 PM hahahaha my goddddd!!!!!!!!!!! Such tall women!!! What am I gonna do??? I'm only 1.62 or so, hihihihi.
And what is that stuff about foreigners?? hihihihi You americans are the onluy people who use that system!!! hahaha
Tazmania 08-29-2004, 05:30 PM You're right Carina!
The Americans are the foreigners in this one!
hahahaha LOL:lol:
CindyK 08-29-2004, 06:42 PM Yes I know that we in the USA are the only country who uses the Standard English measurement system....but since we are talking about American actors on an American TV series, whenever you read bios or personal stats on these people, you will find the American measurement system invoked.
Besides when in Rome, do as the Romans do....:)
Can you imagine singing this song...
"1.58 meters, eyes of blue,
But oh what those 1.52 meters could do
Has anybody seen my gal?"
pmarier 08-29-2004, 07:51 PM my goodness cindy, your part david addison!:)
kismet 08-29-2004, 08:19 PM The metric system? I'm running out the door - I don't understand it simply because I hate change so I don't want to learn it. My kids understand it but I don't.
Cybill's height - I have seen anything from 5'8" to 5'10". I personally think she looks taller than 5'8". Actresses used to (before Uma Thurman and Nicole Kidman) understate their height because so many male actors were little bitty things.
Bruce's height - I have seen 5'11" to 6'1". If he says he is 6'1" on his own site, then I believe him. He has no reason to lie, does he?
Sorry that I can't translate feet and inches to metric - but I'm too old for change...
I'm a sad, sad case, aren't I?

Yay! :yippee: Glad everybody's enjoying it here. Lemme tell ya, though, before you guys arrived, it was Deadsville around these parts. :o It's great how many people have discovered this place...the more, the merrier! :D
david&maddie4ever 08-29-2004, 09:43 PM Ugh, and this metric system conversation is gonna make my head explode. Sorry people...I work in feet and inches.
......and just think lauren, 90% of all the people on this board are from outside the US. that boggles my mind. just goes to show that most americans don't know what's good for them....

Exactly! I'm always amazed at the amount of people here who don't live in America. I think it's so cool that I get to chat about my favorite show with people from all over the world.
Tazmania 08-30-2004, 05:28 PM Thank you! I felt a little attack here for a while!
But now I feel much better!
Soooo do as the Europeans do! Cross the border and learn!
1 foot is about 30 centimeters, 100 centimeters is a meter, so 5 feet is about 1.50m 6 feet about 1.80 so I guess Cyb is about 1.80!
There! It's simple! You see how fast the Europeans learn "foreign" stuff!
LOL LOL LOL
attack???
hope didn't mean by me. i am an american by birth, but an international resident by choice. matter of fact, i may be back to europe in a few weeks.
i do better with weights than lengths, but i still lack greatly as i quickly forget what i learn. just another example of american stubborness. start to teach us the metric system when i was in the 5th grade and then stopped.
Tazmania 08-30-2004, 06:46 PM No worries Bry, just kiddin'!
In fact a lot of Americans have their roots in Europe so......
We're all one BIG family!
yep.
two years ago i was in armenia. i go to see a couple of episodes of M*A*S*H in russian. and bat man.
last year in armenia, no M*A*S*H, but i spent the whole time in austria watching music channels. which is what i usually watch in armenia. can't watch CNN international around the clock.
didn't see much tv in japan when i was there. or st thomas. all i could find in israel was eurosport and CNN.
how do you guys find someting to watch?? seems most i can find is music and CNN.
Tazmania 08-31-2004, 01:19 PM Well you've been around!
In Holland we have the Dutch channels ofcourse, but also Belgian, German and English channels.
MTV and TMF both music channels and National Geographic and Discovery, but NO MOONLIGHTING!!!
Carina13 08-31-2004, 02:34 PM I think the greatest thing that can happen to a human being is to go out, to get to know other cultures... I LOVE to learn things from other places. And I have no problem trying to understand american system or whatever, I like it very much, indeed.
In Spain I don't watch any tv, it really su*ks!! All gossips  If I watch tv, I watch mexican channels by cable. And sometimes CNN, but everything over there is sooo manipulated (I mean all the information and all that) that I can't stand it very long. So most of the time I'm here with my pc, and I download the series I wanna watch and watch them here. ;)
marla 11-14-2004, 05:41 AM honestly, i felt like there was this joke and i was the only one that didn't know the punchline. except that know one else on my group date knew the punchline either.
this caused a lot of sitting around and trying to unravel this mystery of an episode.
this is our guesses.
david and maddie were missing.
it was about bruce willis and cybill shepherd.
willis and shepherd were fighting in real life about who knows what. something about comming from different cultures was the closest we could come to. this caused a (long?) delay in episodes being aired because they wouldn't come out of their trailers or dressing rooms to work. (yuk)
what was irritating was when interviewer stood in front of them when they were kissing. everyone groaned at that.
second biggest mystery is that we didn't know what was going on.
the first biggest mystery is that we liked this episode anyway!
some guy says 'yo knucklehead' to me i know i will have found my true soul mate.
This may be the only episode that you really had to be around back when the show was originally aired to fully appreciate. I loved it! The hype surrounding this show (especially in the tabloids) was incredible! And it came at the absolute height of the 'will they, won't they' tease! This episode hit every tabloid rumor out there and tied it very cleverly to the David and Maddie saga. I thought it was great!!
CindyK 11-14-2004, 11:42 AM Cybr you are dead on with your statement that one had to have been there and lived through this period to get all the jokes and references. Back then TV shows did not have reruns midseason and did not have delays in production. They turned out shows like an assembly line...a new episode every week. That was the norm and what was expected. But then Moonlighting came along and put quality ahead of a schedule and quantity and started have reruns whenever they didn't have a new episode ready and fans, the press, everyone commented about that. Reruns on Moonlighting became joke lines on late night TV and in comedy routines and among the public.
To not have experienced the mania that went along with ML in its original run, prevents one from knowing how much press the show and its two stars got. They were constantly in the tabloids and in magazines and mentioned everywhere you went. So this episode made fun of all that insanity and did it in a self-deprecating hilarious way that made everyone relax about it all.
kismet 11-15-2004, 11:17 AM This is one of my favorite episodes. It makes me laugh and cry.
I love Peter Bogdanovich, Pierce Brosnan etc. appearances.
I love the look of Cybill with no make-up -- drop dead gorgeous!
Rona Barrett was the queen of gossip in the 70's and 80's and it was fun to see her in this episode (whatever happened to her?).
AND I LOVE THAT KISS!
The reluctance of Maddie/Cybill looked so real, but then they just melted together (with his hand in her hair of course!;) ).
WAITING TO GET SLAMMED:lol:
Dutchie 11-15-2004, 11:45 AM Rona Barrett was the queen of gossip in the 70's and 80's and it was fun to see her in this episode (whatever happened to her?).
I think I saw her in The Bodyguard with Whitney Houston and kevin Kostner, but I'm not sure about that. It all happened in a flash:p
I loved this episode btw. I was still a little girl when it aired but i read so much about Moonlighting before I saw this episode that I knew exactly what was going on. I loved the hair comment at the end btw:D
Rona: What happened to your hair?
They made fun of their own show, but in a good way.:D
