Has there been any developments in the death of Sherry Lyall Hart? Hart was murdered in January 1984 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. She was a 24 year old divorcee with a young daughter in 1984. Her corpse was found eleven months later at the jumping off place in Wilkes County. Richard Bear and Jeffery Burgess were considered by police to be the main suspects. Both suspects were known by the victim.

I know what you are talking about. (I think) Didnt she go party with them after recently returning to her hometown while going thru a divorce? I could swear that there was a conviction with this case. I will poke around on the internet since you have sparked my interst in knowing if this case has been resolved.

From memory, Hart met the two suspects in a carpark. Somehow she ended up travelling with the suspects. She requested the driver to stop to enable her to go to the toilet in the bushland nearby. One of them attacked her and threw her of a cliff. At least one of the suspects wanted to have sexual intercourse with her and may have raped her during the attack.

This is weird,I remember a case where a young woman returned to her hometown and she had a little girl and was staying with her parents. She went into town and ran into 2 old freinds from highschool who were shady characters, maybe criminals and she went partying with them and one wanted to have sex with her and she refused so he pulled over and threw her off a cliff. The similarities of these 2 cases are confusung me?? Can anyone tell me who I am talking about? Her name, etc.? Thanks

Richard Bare is still on the run. He was recently profiled on America's Most Wanted.
Here is Richard Bare's profile, along with the details of the murder he is accused of.

I'm bumping this one, primarily because I saw it on PlutoTV while getting ready for work this morning.
This one has always bugged me and I don't know why it doesn't get more attention. We all know (I'm assuming) that Richard Bare killed Sherry. He didn't have a ton of money, so I'm trying to figure out HOW he has been on the run all this time.
I know his family says they haven't had contact with him and that may or may not be true, but I don't see how you can be hidden for this long without some help.

Here's the latest link for Richard Bare since the old link listed above no longer seems to work.

They are jumbled, but there was a series of articles written about Sherry Hart a few years ago and they were written by the same reporter who wrote an extensive article on Rhonda Hinson. It's titled, "Unsolved: Murder at the Jumping Off Place". Every witness to the crime is dead, there are several unconfirmed reports that Bare is still alive and living out in the open, and the reason why they don't believe there is much of an effort to locate Bare is that the only thing he is currently wanted for is escaping from prison.

Bare's sister has been quoted as saying she doesn't believe her brother killed Sherry. (Evidently, Sherry must have pushed herself off that cliff.) My gut tells me she and possibly other family members have been helping him stay hidden all these years. We've seen these situations so many times before; Family refuses to believe that their loved one did something so horrid so they go in complete denial, help him/her evade the law and attack the victim and victim's family.
This segment has always angered me. And the fact that 35 years have passed and Bare has not spent that entire time in prison? Absolutely infuriating.
