I love this band, but they seem to continue to have problems since they have resurfaced. Not only is Michael Anthony missing from the new music and DLR is not credited with anything in the liner notes, now the error on the new CD.

VAN HALEN'S BEST OF ERRORS:
A lot of people have e-mailed in regarding Van Halen's Best Of Both Worlds package. There are a couple of errors within the package, the most noticeable error being the sudden cut-off on Finish What You Started. I'm still working on getting a response about the errors and if they will be fixed. Stay tuned.

Yeah, there are a few other errors, too. I posted about them in thread (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=109828&perpage=15&pagenumber=2).

I love Van Halen, but they need to get their heads out of their asses. And Eddie needs to stop drinking and smoking, or he'll be dead in five years.

Sorry AKA, I didn't see your post I would have attached this instead of making a new one.

Alot of people are saying that Eddie is drinking again, not only that, but that he is actually drunk during the sets on stage. :(

Michael Anthony does not play on the new songs? That is just wrong. He is the band's bass player. I think the problem with Eddie isn't that he's drinking again but that over the past decade he has devolped a massive ego. I always felt that part of the reason that Eddie will not play with Dave, is that he doesn't want to share the spotlight with Roth, he wants it all to himself.

A lot of people are saying that Eddie has developed an ego problem. This is one of the reasons people think he denied Neal Schon's new band Soul Sirkus to open for Van Halen for two nights while they are in the bay area. They say that Eddie didn't want Neal showing him up so he said no.

It was either at Blabbermouth, Melodicrock or Bravewords or one of the VH1 boards.

TJL, here is the information that was on Blabbermouth:

According to MelodicRock.com, bassist Michael Anthony isn't credited on the three new songs ("It's About Time", "Up For Breakfast", "Learning To See") included on the new VAN HALEN compilation, "Best of Both Worlds", due on July 20. Appearing on the new tracks are Alex Van Halen on drums, Sammy Hagar on vocals, with Eddie Van Halen providing the rest of the instrumentation. No reason was given for Anthony's lack of participation in the new recordings.

I saw a picture (recent?) of Eddie Van Halen smoking. Gee, the guy had one-third of his tongue removed due to oral cancer surgery. Why can't he and John Mellencamp (who had a heart attack) both just QUIT??

Mike should have played bass on the new songs. Eddie is a guitar genius, but he does not play bass as well as Mike. Michael Anthony is one of the greatest bass players in rock. I would say that only John Paul Jones, Paul McCartney and Geddy Lee are better. Both Mike and Alex never get the attention that they deserve, and they are as much apart of Van Halen as Eddie is. And if Eddie is smoking or drinking again, someone like his brother should get him to stop. Eddie has a lot more living to do and music to make!

VAN HALEN Producer Explains "Glitch" [Rarities - 04.08.03 05:27:12]

As previously reported, there are sound errors on VAN HALEN's new Best Of Both Worlds compilation. The main notable error is the sudden halt of ‘Finish What You Started’. Van Halen's website has posted a message from producer Glen Ballard who discusses the track:

"There’s a great irony associated with our choice to present 'Finish What Ya Started' in a way that belies the title. We retrieved the analog master from the WB vault only to learn that it needed to be treated or “cooked” to restore its ability to be reproduced on the analog machine. The original two-track mix ends exactly as presented on the new Best Of Both Worlds. In the first mastering of the record nearly twenty years ago it was faded manually and that is the way it appears on the original OU812. We literally decided to let it 'Finish' in its truly original form, almost like a “director’s cut.” To the legions of Van Halen fans who remember it the other way, we can only hope that the added one second of music and its slightly truncated ending represents a unique version of a song that we all know and love and becomes in its own right a collectors item.

We have spent hundreds of hours in conjunction with Ed (Van Halen - guitars) and Alex (Van Halen - drums) pondering the tone, texture and tenor of these amazing recordings, and we appreciate the responses from the many listeners who cherish this music. It has represented a sacred mission for all of us and we present it to you with love, respect and passion, and if you hear something you might have missed before, please realize it is included to present what we deem to be the more complete archive of this amazing band.

Sincerely,

Glen Ballard"

It sounds like ol' Glen's trying to make it seem like the error was intentional. Good try, Glen!

Anyway, I've uploaded "Finish What Ya Started," as presented on BOBW, to show everyone what the error sounds like.

As I said, the track is the same length as it is on the OU812 album, so you're not missing anything. They just forgot to fade it out (the fade should start at around 4:03), so the end is abrupt.

AKA, thanks for putting this up. Your right someone forgot to fade, but it still sounds like when I was a kid and trying to do my own edits. LOL!!! Thanks again.

No problem. When I made my own CD-R version of Best Of Both Worlds, I used the master on the new CD, but created my own fadeout in Adobe Audition. Sounds just like the original.

If Eddie really is smoking and drinking again, that's really sad. He's always been one of my heroes. I've always thought he's one of the best guitarists of all time, if not the best. It's just sad that such a talented man is destroying himself like that.
