July 31, 2004 -- A bruised and battered Paris Hilton is telling pals ex-boyfriend Nick Carter hit her, leaving the ugly marks on her face and arms.

In photos, Hilton has an obviously swollen lip and bruises up and down both arms.

She has said the bruising came in Los Angeles Monday evening, after she and Carter joined pal Amanda Demme at the Argyle Hotel, where Demme throws a weekly party.

"They were dirty dancing together," said one Argyle spy. "They were very lovey-dovey, staring into each other's eyes. We all thought they were back together."

But after Hilton and the ex-Backstreet Boy left the Argyle to party at another club, Joseph's, the mood turned sour.

"Nick wanted to leave, Paris didn't," said a Hilton pal, adding, "Nick forced Paris to leave, he made her get in a cab with him."

Hilton alleges to friends Carter later lost his temper.

Friends say Hilton is "scared to death."

The pal added: "He has major anger-management issues . . . We have seen bruises on her before and asked her about them. She has always denied it — until now."

Another Paris pal added, "Nick made his bed, now he has to lie in it."

A friend of her sister, Nicky Hilton, confirmed to yet another source that both Nicky and Paris claim the person responsible for Paris' bruises is Carter.

Hilton's rep, Tracy Shaffer, declined comment.

Carter's lawyer, Marty Singer, fiercely denied Carter had anything to do with the bruises on Hilton, claiming Hilton is spreading rumors because she's angry with the pop star.

"Even though they broke up, they spent Monday night together, and Paris left Nick's house Tuesday morning happy," Singer said. "This is all because Paris was upset by what Nick told People magazine."

Singer also claimed that Hilton had been scheduled for a photo shoot Tuesday with celebrity shutterbug David LaChapelle. "It was going to be an S&M shoot," the lawyer said.

Carter told his side of the breakup story to People, while Hilton told her side to a rival magazine, Us Weekly. Hilton gave no indication that violence contributed to the breakup.

Hilton said, "I need time alone," before revealing that she broke up with Carter in a phone call.

Hilton did say her friends weren't happy with her relationship.

"Nicole [Richie] will be happy. She didn't like me with Nick," Hilton said.

The magazine quoted a friend of Hilton saying: "Nick was very jealous of Paris and her career. He'd get mad at all the attention she got."

Singer fumed: "This is reciprocity. On Tuesday, he drove her to a business meeting and she called him later that night to see if he wanted to go out with her to some event. He said no! They had a big argument Thursday after People hit the newsstands because she was upset because he [had told the magazine] about her name tattooed on him. In our opinion, it's clearly retaliation."

When told of Singer's claims, Shaffer snapped, "No comment!"

Meanwhile, Hilton has tried to maintain her busy social schedule. On Wednesday, Hilton hit another L.A. club, Concorde, with sister Nicky and actors Lindsay Lohan and Wilmer Valderrama.

Hilton flew to New York yesterday to join her family in Southampton to attend a benefit for her recently deceased grandmother.

as soon as her career eclipsed that of Scott Foley's (sorry, Scott Foley is better looking than Michael Vartan ANY DAY), she broke his heart and dropped him like a one night stand. I know a lot of Felicity/Scott fans who hate her guts over how she treated Scott and left him for her co-star (breaking up Vartan's marriage at the same time) once she became more famous than Scott.

Shannen Doherty also beat up Paris Hilton awhile back. Where was the outrage over that?

I hate the way media has made Paris this celebrity when she's done absolutely nothing. Okay, she did The Simple Life, but that was after the media had shoved her down our throats simply because she has money and will sleep with just about anyone who'll get her on the entertainment news. When I heard about her catfight with Shannen Doherty (in which Shay won), I thought it was funny and was glad to see Shannen, someone who actually worked her way to infamy as opposed to just being a spoiled little rich brat, be the winner of the fight that Paris provoked. If Paris was an actress (and cameos in movies don't count) or a singer or a model (and I mean a true model, not someone who just posed for Calvin Klein or something once), I can understand this attention, but as far as I'm concerned, she is much ado about nothing.

I know she was born rich... but she was not someone like Prince William or Lisa Marie Presley or someone along those lines (I can see Madonna's daughter Lourdes getting this way when she's older) in which media and people in general have been fascinated with her from the morning she was born, so the adult attention is understandable.

For example, I don't really like Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears either... but the difference between them and the medias fascination with them and Paris Hilton is that they do have the movies and music to have actually given them a reason to be famous... I know! If that's all you have to do to get famous nowadays, we're living in a pretty sad world.

Paris puts out stories for the publicity. A while back Lisa Marie Presley's friend threw a drink on Paris at some club. Paris knew it was her friend, accepted lisa's apology and the next day ran a story that Lisa saw her talking to Nic Cage and got mad and threw a drink on her and then hit her:rolleyes: She's a moron.

The sad thing about this situation is it appears that Paris and her family are "circling thier wagons" and doing thier best to play down this incident. According to the papers, Paris avoided photographers at a Hamptons function this weekend and reporters were kept at bay by her family's security staff.

If she was beaten up by someone, I certainly hope Paris and her family will press charges against the guilty party.

Voilence against women, even famous socialite women, shouldn't be tolerated.

well, in my opinion Scott Foley has 10 times Michael Vartan's looks, and you can't say anything to change my opinion on it. The only movie Michael wasn't a complete scumbag in that I've seen was Never Been Kissed. He was a creep in both One Hour Photo and The Next Best Thing. Scott is very handsome and has actually gotten better looking since Jennifer left him

I'll admit up front that I am in no way a JG fan...I think she's not a great actress and she's nothing to look at. And whether or not she broke with Scott because she was now famous isn't necessarily all there is to it...but it does seem quite suspicious and timely.

As far as fake, it's her attitude, not her body.

I like some of the Backstreet Boys music, but I never cared for Nick at all. But, it might be a pretty big blow to his fans who like his music. I had a friend who I lost in touch with a few years ago who liked the Backstreet Boys music and whose favorite Backstreet Boy was Nick. I bet she'll be disappointed to hear this.
