doe's anybody know if there's any plans to release PETTICOAT JUNCTION on dvd in the season by season format!
if so.. when is season one coming out?

There is one out that has apparently 4 episodes of the first season. However, it doesn't have the origional theme music, and it's not a official Viacom release. You can find it at bargan bins at various stores. I've purchased a copy of it at Value Village. The picture quality isn't nothing to brag about either. :(

I purchased a DVD box set that includes a PJ DVD with seven episodes from the first season. Included in the box set are also DVD's of Ozzie and Harriet, The Dick Van Dyke show, and the Lucy Show.

I also noticed for some reason the opening and closing theme music has been replaced by a guitar pickin' rendering similar to Flatt & Scruggs style of the Beverly Hillbillies. It's very annoying not being able to hear the real theme song.

All seven episodes were previously released on VHS by Columbia House which did have the classic opening and closing themes. Does anyone know why they had to use an alternate theme-maybe Viacom wouldn't let them use the real theme-then how did they even release the DVD in the first place?

I can't say when it's coming out, but I spoke to a friend who attended the very recent celebrities convention in Burbank and talked with Linda Henning.

I was told that Linda signed a contract for a DVD which will feature 12 black and whites--the ones already released through Columbia House--and unlike the Dollar DVD which had bluegrass music superimposed over the title song, this one will feature the theme song, as well as interviews with cast members. Sounds like it's going to be something worth waiting for.

Hi Jon: The reason that your DVD has different music is that it is a bootleg copy. When they made the DVD, they were unable to use the original music. The new DVD that Roy mentioned will contain the original music and will be a legal copy! I suspect that they will see how it goes and then decide whether or not to release PJ in a season format. If enough of us purchase this one, I am sure that we will see more in the future! Linda Henning told us that although Her Dad sold the rights to the episodes, he retained the rights to the songs and music since He wrote them!! So hang in there! We just have to be patient a bit longer!

Actually the eps w/o the original theme music are in the public domain, so they are not bootlegged as such. Somehow the copyrights on the individual eps were not renewed properly, so anyone w/ the means to do so can create and sell copies of those eps in the public domain. You can't hear the original theme music w/ them, since the theme music falls under a different copyright. About 16 eps of Andy Griffith's and 6 eps of Dick Van Dyke's shows, as well as a whopping 55 B&W eps of Beverly Hillbillies, are also under public domain, so that's why those eps are so cheap to acquire on DVD and tape. Several color eps of Lucy Show are also in PD as well.

In a way that can be a nuisance, especially if you prefer to hear the original theme music. I have a You Bet Your Life dollar DVD which has, instead of the familiar Hooray For Captain Spaulding theme, some ragtimey sounding music which isn't really bad (I love ragtime anyway!). On the other hand, I have a DVD with nine Lone Ranger episodes, and the William Tell Overture plays, BUT with a synthesizer instead of the orchestra fans are used to hearing. And for me that's annoying, but really it's a small price to pay for economical entertainment, and it's something I can put up with.

I guess that would explain why there are so many of those DVD's out there! I get irritated when a show does not have the original music etc! For a long time they were the only thing available to us but now, thanks to Linda Henning, we have several B&W episodes and much more! I do hope that more DVD's will follow! I wonder how we can find out just how many of us PJ fans there are out there! Each MB has their own ... but I would like to see if there was some way that we can get a list to see how many of us there are! Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I bet there are more of us than the higher ups think!!

I guess that explains the crappy DVD I got off e-bay, of some B.H. episodes. The audio & video's not bad, but the Flat & Scruggs opening & closing themes (with Jerry Scroggins singing) was replaced with some gutair-pickin' music, and the entire opening and closing isn't there, either. And the episodes are the edited, sydnicated ones that TV LAND used to show.

Other than all that though, the DVD's not bad. Beside, what do you expect for 5 bucks??:lol:

That's what I've heard. I'm hoping they do, I really enjoyed the Petticoat Junction Ultimate Collection.
