There isn't a real forum to put this in so I'm putting it here

Kirstie Alley will take on tabloids, Hollywood and herself in Showtime's "Fat Actress," a reality-comedy series about the life of an overweight celebrity.

Alley proposed the series to the cable channel as a "send-up of her own image as well as Hollywood's obsession with weight and beauty," said Robert Greenblatt, entertainment president for Showtime Networks Inc.

The 53-year-old actress, heavier than when she starred in "Cheers" and "Veronica's Closet" and films including "Look Who's Talking," has been the subject of unflattering photos in supermarket tabloids.

The series is co-created by Alley and Brenda Hampton ("7th Heaven," "Mad About You"); they and Sandy Chanley ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") are the executive producers. Episodes will be based on a story line but largely improvised.

Alley is "so willing to be vulnerable and make fun of herself," Hampton said. "She just has such a great sense of humor, is a brilliant comedian and so smart."

Hampton described the series as an "adult comedy" along the lines of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with writer-comedian Larry David ("Seinfeld").

"But it's so different because I think women across the country will identify with her," Hampton said Thursday. "It's difficult to lose weight and find a relationship no matter where you live. It makes it all the more painful when you're in the spotlight."

The half-hour Showtime series, set to begin production this fall, will air sometime next year. Six episodes are planned, Hampton said.

I always liked Kirstie, I wish her luck

Kirstie is great! I thought Veronica's Closet was fantastic! I also heard she may be doing another Look Who's Talking- so good luck to her!

I wish Kirstie the best. I'd like to see her on a hit show. It's an interesting premise, and I hope it works out.

Really? I saw a photo of her a few months ago and she'd gotten big. She looks good.

I think she's doing Look Whos Talking Again where they adopt a child

Yes, it's a recent photo. Go to People.com.....she's the cover story in People magazine. I would provide the link, but I have AOL and usually only other AOL members can open my links.

Maybe someone else can post the link here.

Me too. :( I've always liked Kirstie. :)

Hopefully...with her being on a new show, she'll be better about responding to her fanmail. She's such a hard person to get an autograph from. :( I've liked her ever since her Cheers days. :D

people forget that Kirstie is 53 now. She is no longer the sexpot she was back in the days of movies like Runaway and Star Trek 2, and the first few seasons she was on Cheers. There are plenty of comparable actresses around the same age who look a lot worse than Kirstie does now.

As big a Cheers fan that I am, I for one never liked Kirstie Alley.

Sure -- its probably because I resent her for not guest starring on Frasier.

But ohh well, she's got her weight to gain and point to prove, and those endless Pier 1 commercials (I know, bad term -- they've ended). Whatever.

But even after that all.... if I had Showtime I'd watch.
