View Full Version : Most Popular Sitcom of All Time?? barwars 07-27-2004, 10:11 PM Not necessarily the best, or your favorite -- just what do you think is the most popular sitcom of all time?? EmoJoe 07-27-2004, 10:12 PM I Love Lucy TVQuack 07-27-2004, 10:18 PM I'm kinda partial for Seinfeld, Cheers or M*A*S*H, of course I'm only 23, 24 in a week :) so I'm sure it will be different for each generation. MQ Classic TV Fanatic 07-27-2004, 10:37 PM I Love Lucy or The Andy Griffith Show Brian Damage 07-27-2004, 10:38 PM I love Lucy without a doubt EmoJoe 07-27-2004, 10:39 PM Originally posted by Brian Damage I love Lucy without a doubt Yeah I dont know anyone whos never heard of ILL Adamantium 07-27-2004, 11:19 PM My Mother the Car ;) There always has to be a wise guy, huh? Seriously though, I agree with "I Love Lucy". Of course "The Andy Griffith Show" has a huge fan base, too. I'll still go with "Lucy". AKA 07-27-2004, 11:20 PM I'm going to have to go with I Love Lucy or M*A*S*H. spunkygirl 07-28-2004, 03:10 AM I Love Lucy tvfan0101 07-28-2004, 11:25 AM What do you mean by most popular? Do you mean the most well-known sitcom or the most beloved sitcom? In other words, is this sitcom the one that the most people have heard of or the most people enjoy? I think the most well-known sitcom is probably I Love Lucy, but it may not be the most beloved. M*A*S*H holds the record for the highest rated television broadcast (non-news, non-sport, non-moon, etc) of all time. That is pretty darn popular and well-known. But in its first season M*A*S*H did not rank in the Top 40; not well-known or popular. Tough question. CarJackSnyder 07-28-2004, 12:28 PM I Love Lucy Superstar 07-28-2004, 03:07 PM I've never even seen I Love Lucy! I'll say Friends Dean Winchester 07-28-2004, 04:08 PM I Love Lucy even if you have never seen an episode or dislike it... THE SHOW IS STILL POPULAR OVER 50 YEARS LATER. People who were born 30 years after the show ended like the show. Mr. Television 07-28-2004, 04:29 PM I Love Lucy has surely lasted the longest since going iinto syndication. Its 53 years old and is still popular. Chambers 07-28-2004, 04:33 PM What almost everybody else has said: I Love Lucy. Will and Grace Fanatic 07-28-2004, 06:08 PM I beleive The Cosby show is if you go by ratings. Plus when I watched the NBC 75th Anniversary they mentioned that The Cosby Show is the most watched show in television history. I can conclude that by the fact that this one sitcom saved a network plus it was the number one show for 5 seasons straight.(tied with Roseanne for the 1990 season) Only one other show has done that, All in the Family, but I beleive over all the Cosby show had higher ratings each season than All in the Family. tvfan0101 07-28-2004, 07:22 PM If you want to go by the number of viewers, The Beverly Hillbillies ranks up near the top of the list in terms of popularity. Several episodes of the series are in the list of the most watched episodes of all time, if I am not mistaken. I believe that Lucille Ball had episodes that got watched by quite a few people such as the Burton/Taylor one, the birth of Little Ricky, and the first episode of her second weekly sitcom. Do you know where we could find a list that has the Top 100 most watched episodes of All-Time??? tvfan0101 07-29-2004, 09:29 AM Originally posted by Classic TV Fanatic Do you know where we could find a list that has the Top 100 most watched episodes of All-Time??? Not off the top of my head. I know I have seen one that has maybe 50 or so, but I cannot remember if it was online or in a book. I spent about 30 minutes yesterday searching for it with no luck. |
