Hey all,
I just got a DVD Recorder today, and am playing around with it. It seems for this machine (which was rather inexpensive) I can only really edit on the -RW feature. The -R feature doesn't have any editing.
My question is: When trading with folks using DVD, which format do you prefer? Do people send -RW? Or is -R the more popular of the two?
Many thanks.

Dash R definitely, I have just about every machine you can think of from region free, plus r, minus r, etc etc and those Dash RW discs do not like to play on them(about 9 different machines of varying age). So stick with the Dash R and you should be fine.

To date, I haven't even been offered DVD-RW. I doubt any of my machines would be able to play them anyway.
All of the DVD-Rs I've gotten in trades have worked in at least one of my machines. However, I've gotten DVD+R in trades, and only those discs dubbed in SP work in any of my machines. DVD+R discs done in either LP or SLP stick half-way through the disc.

hi, i am a newbie with a dvd recorder. mine uses dvd-r /-rw. from what i understand from the manual dvd-rw will only play back on my machine. i use dvd-r for trading and haven't had a problem. i have found out that in my experience that dvd-rw seems to be a waste. it's just like cd-rw. dics are so inexpensive that if you have a bad on every now and then (which you will), it's ok just to throw them away. instead of hassle with the dvd-rw. i like using the dvd-r and haven't had any bad experiences in trading them. they play in about 80-85% of dvd players. thanks

Thanks. I figured -R is the way to go.

I went to Best Buy and I bought a Pioneer DVD Recorder. It is so new. It's only about $300 along with the 25-pack blank DVD's and a CD case so that I can fit through my DVD's.:) I hope that I like to make that copy of a DVD from a standard VCR. I hope it works.:)

For father's day my wife got me the Lite on All Write LVW-5005 dvd recorder
It uses both + and - discs and I have only had one coaster since I started using it
The thing puts my old Panasonic dvd recorder to shame and I would highly recommend it to anyone that is in the market for a good dvd recorder
I believe that she got it for $235.00 on e cost.com
