Brian 07-26-2004, 05:56 PM 1. Nothing in Common - I think this is a movie that has really been overlooked despite the fact that it has Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason in it. I thought The Great One's last film was, well, a great one. This was a good film directed by Garry Marshall of Happy Days fame. I liked the soundtrack, too.
2. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - When I first saw the movie in theaters in May of 1999 I thought it was an excellent start to the prequel trilogy. Most everyone I talked to who had seen it, didn't like it. I didn't get it then and I don't get it today.
3. Valley of the Dolls - This was widely panned by critics and fans alike but I really liked it. It's not the best movie in the world but I would give it 2 1/2 out of 4 stars. Leonard Maltin and probably a lot of other critics gave it a BOMB or 1 star rating.
4. Bachelor Party - This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I'm not exaggerating. This is another overlooked Tom Hanks movie. Loved it.
5. The Towering Inferno - OK so maybe it isn't very underrated. This disaster movie is my favorite, even more so than The Poseidon Adventure. It has an all-star cast that I don't think can be matched today. Leonard Maltin gave is 2 1/2 stars. I say it is at least 3 stars. It is the epitome of a disaster flick.
I want to see Ishtar sometime, so if I feel it's underrated, I'll post it here.
CliffClavin 07-26-2004, 06:05 PM Thats cool Brian thanks for posting. :D ;)
Michael [hXc] 07-26-2004, 07:16 PM 1. "The Black Angel". 1946 film noir starring Dan Duryea and June Vincent. Dan Duryea plays Martin Blair whose wife Mavis Marlowe was killed. A man named Kirk Bennett is convicted because he came to Mavis' apartment on the night of the murder. Kirk's wife Cathy (June Vincent) and Martin Blair set out to find the murderer. It has a surprising ending because the murderer is the last person expected.
2. "Strangers on a Train". One of Hitchcock's better movies that never receives the credit it deserves. Stars Robert Walker, Farley Granger, Ruth Roman, and Pat Hitchcock. Bruno Antony (Robert Walker) and Guy Haines (Farley Granger) meet on a train one day and they make a deal that Guy would kill Bruno's father and Bruno would kill Guy's wife. Well when Bruno kills Guy's wife, he regrets it and finds out how much of a crazy psychopath Bruno is. And Guy is convicted. But will he kill Bruno's father? watch and find out.
3. "The Legend of Lizzie Borden". 1975 TV movie starring Elizabeth Montgomery tells the story of Lizzie Borden. Remember the old rhyme "Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks. And when she saw what she had done she gave her father forty one."
sorry I could only think of 3.
BowWowsBreezy 07-26-2004, 07:33 PM 1. Love and Basketball~This movie is great, the acting is amazing as is the direction and writing...has anyone else seen this movie?
Janet McFarland 07-26-2004, 08:26 PM The In-Laws w/ Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks .. it got bad reviews but I really liked it since I love both actors and it was really funny.
dandelion wine 07-26-2004, 11:12 PM Wet Hot American Summer
Somewhere in Time
The Changeling
The Wicker Man
Strangers on a Train
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 07-27-2004, 12:13 AM One I can think of is "Cheats" Awesome movie that got no attention whatsoever.
LucyCompanyPhan 07-27-2004, 12:41 AM 1. Liar Liar - sure this movie is a huge hit, but I think its always being in Dumb and Dumber's shadow as Jim Carrey's best movie and by far this is Jim Carreys best movie
2. Three to Tango - okay sure its one of those mediocre romantic comedies but something about this one I love. Matthew Perry & Neve Campbell are like the prefect couple and everytime I see this movie, I have to watch it again. I just adore this film.
3. 12 Angry Men - this is one of the greatest movies ever made. You have to see this movie. The acting is prefect.
I'll think of the other 2 later.
Jrnygrl 07-28-2004, 05:09 PM CABLE GUY - I think this is Jim Carrey's best performance besides "The Truman Show."
KILLER CLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE - This is the most cheesy movie, that is a parody on other Scifi films. Not many people have seen it, it has been running on Showtime this month. If you want a good laugh I strongly recommend this movie.
CINDERELLA LIBERTY - James Caan plays a sailor, stationed in Seattle, where he meets and starts a relationship with a hooker he meets. Marsha Mason plays the hooker.
THE LAST DETAIL - I think this is Jack Nicholsons best film. He plays a Navy MP, who is assigned to pick up a sailor who went AWOL. The AWOL sailor is played by a very young Randy Quad. Otis Young plays the other MP assigned to help Nicholson.
GLORIA - This movie stars Gena Rowland as a woman involved with the mafia, and is on the run after she takes care of the son of a man who was killed because of his mafia ties.

vashti1999 07-28-2004, 11:30 PM Just picking stuff from my favorite movies list:
Claudine (1974) Diahann Carroll got a much deserved Oscar nomination for her performance, its a simple story, simple movie, and that may have something to do with it not being as popular as I think it should be.
Raising Victor Vargas (2003) Story of an NYC Latino teen's relationship with a girl. I was checking recently: this movie made a grand total of less than $2 million at the box office though a new special edition dvd is coming in August. Give it a rent
Popi (1969) Alan Arkin should have gotten an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a poor Puerto Rican father of two
Get On The Bus (1996) One of my favorite, if not my favorite Spike Lee film, it's light on action but heavy on discussion of different viewpoints concerning race, masculinity, responsibilty
These are all my type of movie, I prefer this over big-budget, special effects extravaganzas

That movie is evil and possessed. I saw it 3 and a half years ago. it's hard to explain what it's done but after i saw it i started thinking, there's some younger or older version of me here and we always talk to eachother. and THEY STILL WON'T GO AWAY!!!!!! :crying: I know you didn't understand any of that, i can't explain but it is very clear that that movie has permanently warped my fragile little mind.

Vashti1999, glad you mentioned both these films. Your right it is Spike Lee's best film he has ever made. I also agree that Diahann Carroll should have won for that role, she was wonderful, the soundtrack written by Curtis Mayfield was excellent too.

Yep, actually a big part of why I like that movie so much is the music from Curtis and Gladys Knight & The Pips.
Superstar 07-29-2004, 04:39 AM What A Girl Wants-It was popular among any1 who saw it but it only got about $30 million in the box office
spunkygirl 07-29-2004, 06:47 PM 1. Pleasantville, an extremely great movie, that always gets overlooked
2. What a girl wants great movie, great acting by everyone
3. Bachelor Party-this movie made me a Tom Hanks fan, it's the first movie of his that I ever saw.
4. While You Were Sleeping, one of Sandra Bullock's best movies ever
5. Miss Congeniality, another great Sandra movie, that gets overlooked, and overshadowed by some of her other films.
*MIBabe03* 07-29-2004, 06:49 PM I loved America's Sweethearts. I thought it was underrated
AllIWantIsYourClutch 07-29-2004, 08:14 PM May- Everyone who I have forced to watch this movie, thinks I'm insane. But I love it.
From Justin to Kelly- I know. It's horrible. But again....I love it.
Amelie- Not that it's underrated...It's just sort of unknown. Everyone who has seen it , (generally) loves it. But it's foriegn and not too many people are keen on the foriegn thing.
Pi- An AMAZING movie but I don't think Darren Aronofsky got as much credit for it as he should've.
Okay that's all I can think of....I watch weird movies.

these are probably Sandra's two highest grossing films ever, besides Speed.
For an underrated overlooked Bullock film, I offer you Murder By Numbers, now THAT didn't get the recognition it deserved. WYWS and MC both made over $100 million, and MC has a sequel coming shortly.

BUT i do LOVE the soundtrack, its one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Got tracks by Al Green, Donell Jones, Black Eyed Peas, Lucy Pearl, and more. I just love the songs, they're all awesome.

dlemond 08-13-2004, 11:33 AM I could list dozens, but here is a mixed bunch:
1. Twelve Monkeys (1995)
2. All Through the Night (1942)
3. Chasing Amy (1997)
4. Rope (1948)
5. The Devil's Backbone (2001)

Wet Hot American Summer
Dirty Work
Gigantic: A Tale Of Two Johns
Run Ronnie Run!
phoebe7165 08-13-2004, 03:12 PM Election--with Matthew Broderick & Reese Witherspoon. I just love this movie, I watch it over & over again.
Nuns on the Run--with Eric Idle & Robbie Coltrane. They take refuge in a nunnery to hide from their mob boss and hilarity ensues when they have to dress as nuns to be able to stay in the nunnery. Funny!
Batman-The Movie--the one with Adam West & Burt Ward. It's so hokey, it's funny. Listening to Adam's & Burt's audio commentary is a hoot!!
Auntie Mame--tour de force performance by Rosiland Russell. It's played on AMC once in a while but I don't know if this movie is familiar to alot of people.
American Beauty--yeah, it was an Oscar winner and Kevin Spacey won best actor but I still think it's underrated.
"Serial Mom" (1994) - Kathleen Turner stars as Beverly Sutphin, a suburban mom who goes on a killing spree, her victims include a rude customer at her son's video store, her daughter's cheating boyfriend, and her son's mean math teacher. Beverly also disguises her voice and makes offensive phone calls to her best friend. This movie is HILARIOUS. It's not for those who are offended by dirty words though.
Skywalker 08-13-2004, 08:01 PM Bachelor Party
My Bodyguard
Real Genius
Police Academy
Lucas

What a great choice! I think this is John Waters' best film.

If you ever make it to my neck of the woods, I would be glad to try and be your friend, since you obviously are lacking in the apparent social skills that would prevent people from trampling you.
