View Full Version : The Latest CD Purchased Thread
vashti1999 07-26-2004, 12:34 PM Sort of similar to the dvd thread on the general sitcoms board. Just list your most recent cd purchases (or online album downloads) and possibly recommend whatever you're currently listening to and think others might enjoy. Even if no one else would enjoy it, list your purchases.
My most recent cd buys:
Stone Love - Angie Stone (2004)
Rewind - Ricky Fante (2004)
Private Life: The Compass Point Sessions - Grace Jones (1998)
and as proof that I'm rediscovering all the old Prince proteges:
Wendy & Lisa (1987)
The Glamorous Life - Sheila E. (1984)
Color of Success - Morris Day (1985)
Dr. Jazz 07-26-2004, 12:53 PM Vashti, what do you think of Morris Day's Color of Success? I have worn that CD out over the years. I think it could have been another Time album. You should also pick up his second CD "Daydreaming", its just as good as Color of Success. I think Daydreaming is currently out of print, but I'm sure you can find a copy somewhere in NYC. And yes, 19 years later I still know how to do the Oak Tree! LOL

I liked "Color of Success". This is actually a re-purchase for me, I have it on vinyl, but saw the cd for a cheap price, decided to pick it up. Thought it was a very solid album for Morris, only 6 tracks but I liked them all. Love/Addiction was one I always liked. I have "Daydreaming" on cassette but haven't listened to it in years.
Mossopp 07-26-2004, 01:44 PM The last CD's I can remember buying are:
'The Laptop EP' - MC Lars
'The Curse' - Atreyu
'Tell All Your Friends' - Taking Back Sunday
'Disclaimer II' - Seether
'Start Static' - Sugarcult
'And Love Said No' - HIM
That's what I've bought over the last few months. I could go further back but I'd be here all day!

Michael [hXc] 07-26-2004, 01:50 PM 'Fallen'-Evanescence
'Let Go'- Avril Lavigne:D
Dr. Jazz 07-26-2004, 02:06 PM Best of Both Worlds - Van Halen
They left off a few hits, but the bulk of their hits ARE here. This collection rocks from beginning to end. The news songs are ok. Could have done without the three live tracks at the end. Would have left those 3 tracks off and put "Ice Cream Man", "Humans Being", & "Me Wise Magic" on there instead. Nonetheless, it is nice to have all these songs remastered & in one place.
Michael [hXc] 07-26-2004, 02:14 PM My friend has the new Avril CD. Out of the two I must say I like the old one better. I love "Complicated", "Sk8er Boi", "I'm with You", "Anything but Ordinary", and "Mobile".
But "My Happy Ending" and "Don't Tell Me" from her new CD are good too. My friend also has the same Evanescence CD as me. He recommended it to me so I bought it and I love it:D

Sorry to say I haven't listened to it entirely yet. That's the copy-protected cd I mentioned in another thread a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been able to load it on to my ipod, and that's how I usually listen to stuff these days. I'll listen to the cd tonight and let you know what I think of it.

Hmmmmmm… Well, give me some examples of “acoustic emo”.
I’m really into the harder side of music. Emo – Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World et al – is really as soft as I’ll go.
The reason I love emo so much is not necessarily purely because of the music. TBS and Brand New write some cracking tunes, but it’s the lyrics that appeal to me the most. As much as I want to rock-out and destroy everything in sight after a long day at the office, I often find more solace in listening to a song about how girls are mean to me, I have no friends and nobody loves me.
That’s why the world needs emo: none of us want to admit that we’re all love-sick suckers looking for that special girl. But we can put on ‘Your Favourite Weapon’ by Brand New and sing along to songs like ‘Last Chance To Lose Your Keys’ and feel a little bit better about ourselves because there are other love-sick losers out there making a living out of telling it like it is!
Jesse Lacy – you are the king!

Vashti, you (& AKA) have the best comeback lines lol I have that CD, its pretty good. Of course none of them can compare to the original versions by Prince. I've always liked Me'lisa Morgan's Do Me Baby. It's one of my Top 5 favorite Prince songs. Me'lisa followed the golden rule of "if you're gonna do a cover song, you better cover it right."

 Thanks. I agree, it's extremely unlikely that a cover can match Prince's original. Ckaka's I Feel For You is a rare exception.

Oh yeah, especially when it includes most of Innervisions and half of Songs In The Key of Life, on top of everything else he did. I'd been waiting for a while for a Stevie Wonder box. I said it should be pretty massive since he stayed with Motown, it wasn't like songs would be left off because of a label change. Then it finally came out. "Close of The Century" didn't disappoint.

Ones I wish they hadn't left out is "Love's in Need of Love Today" & also one of your favorites "Free". I think I'm the only one who likes ALL the stuff from the Woman in Red soundtrack, so I can understand them only including the two singles from it & not any album tracks.

I agree, their songs are just amazing. I personally like "Your Favourite Weapon" because i like more of the upbeat, yell-to-the-top-of-your-lungs type of songs, and their lyrics are so blunt its crazy. But they are truly an amazing band, one of my favorites. I wish i saw them in concert. When word gets out that theyll have shows i'll jump right on that.
But the last CD purchase for me was around last month when i got "The Used" by "The Used". I've liked their songs for a while, but i was never the "gotta run out the house and get it once its out!" kind of person.
Well, i only did that once, when i bought "A Crow Left of the Murder" by Incubus (my favorite band of all time), my second to last CD purchase the day after it was released in January. "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." is still my favorite album by them though...

He's also re-introduced me to Motown--haven't bought any though, just had a friend download a bunch off Kazaa for me. (shhhhh, don't tell hee hee!)
Most recent purchase, though, was "Surfacing" by Sarah McLachlan. Where have I been for the last 10 years LOL? Knew of a couple of the songs on this album, but never knew how wonderful she really was til now! Or how long she has been around....

This album is surprisingly good. They sound like a completely different band - no rapping, Jacoby actually sings! He's pretty good at it too.
I guess this is Papa Roach's big effort to drop the nu-metal tag before the genre finally kicks the bucket. Judging by this effort they could actually have some serious longevity.

Yeah, Condraband, that's it. As a Guns N' Roses fan from way back I've been wanting to get this CD for along time. What could be cooler then Slash and Duff playing together again? It was too bad that they could not get Izzy to join them.
The first thing that surprised me about the album is that it sounds very little like a GN'R album, the music is more modern rock. The songs are much heavier then Guns N' Roses' music was. I know that Duff's roots are punk, and that can be heard on this album more then it was on any of the GN'R albums. Though I tend not to like modern rock, I love Contraband. It is just great to see these talented guys playing music together agian. Let's just hope they make more music together.

I had it in my hands in the store, but didn't buy Britney's greatest hits collection. I figured I'd have both the songs and the videos if I bought the dvd video collection. I wanted that instead but they didn't have the dvd at the store I went to. I still may get the cd, the sale price lasts until Saturday.
I wanted Seal's best of collection. There's a single disc version, and a two-disc version which includes a bunch of acoustic tracks. I'd love to have that, but again, the store didn't have it.
So basically in this post I'm stating I didn't purchase any cd. Just thought I'd share.
