View Full Version : Trying to get into the show.... barwars 07-25-2004, 07:08 PM Where to start?? When to start?? A brief background (that doesnt ruin anything)?? AKA 07-25-2004, 07:38 PM I started with the original movie, then segued into season one and went forward from there. TJL 07-25-2004, 09:46 PM Start at the beginning, like AKA said. See the movie, then watch season one. I expect a full report on your progress by Friday. ;) barwars 07-27-2004, 09:12 PM Well, I had no way to see the movie (without a blindbuy).... or Season 1. So I just decided to give reruns a chance on Hallmark. I saw a few episode yesterday, and liked what I saw. Very likeable characters, good writing. I just dont like the scenes in the OR, not sure why -- just not my thing. TJL 07-27-2004, 10:12 PM Constant viewing of reruns is a sure way to turn yourself into a M*A*S*H fan. Perhaps some day you will be ready for the unedited and remastered epsodes on DVD. ;) AKA 07-27-2004, 11:08 PM Which season is Hallmark currently on? barwars 07-27-2004, 11:09 PM Originally posted by AKA Which season is Hallmark currently on? Not a clue. But yesterday was a 2-Parter where Radar's Uncle dies.... if that helps. Adamantium 07-27-2004, 11:12 PM Originally posted by barwars Not a clue. But yesterday was a 2-Parter where Radar's Uncle dies.... if that helps. That's in season 8. Radar's finale episode, if I'm not mistaken. I personally am a fan of the early years. That's when the show was it's funniest. barwars 07-27-2004, 11:13 PM Originally posted by TVAdam That's in season 8. Radar's finale episode, if I'm not mistaken. AKA 07-27-2004, 11:16 PM I like the whole series, but it's at its strongest in the first 3-5 seasons. By the way, the movie was a blind buy for me. Other than staggered segments on TV, I'd never seen it before. Luckily, I loved it. A year later (around February, 2004), I started getting into the series when I bought season one on DVD. I always watch it sans laugh track (blasphemy to some M*A*S*H fans, but I just can't stand the canned laughter). :) Adamantium 07-27-2004, 11:25 PM My sister got into the show first. She hates the Henry-Trapper seasons. She's a big fan of Potter, B.J. and Winchester. I started watching reruns on FOX back in 1999. I never fully got into the show, however until I bought season 1 on DVD. Actually to be honest, it wasn't until I had the first 3 seasons. I watched 3 to five episodes a day, every day. Now I can say I'm a full-fledged fan. I think that Henry Blake and Frank Burns are the funniest characters on the show. So I'll get into little debates with my sister, the early years versus the later years. And to Barwars, most people agree that Radar's leaving was a major "Jump the Shark" point. And to AKA, I also watch it without the laugh track. AKA 07-29-2004, 04:42 PM Trying to get into the show with the later seasons is like trying to get into Cheers starting with the middle of season six (the corporation owns the bar, Rebecca manages it, and Sam, Carla and Woody have to wear uniforms). You can do it, but you don't get the right feel. You can do it, but you don't get the right feel. On that topic, I remember watching "Married ... With Children" when It was new. I started watching with Jefferson on the show. I was shocked when I saw the first episode to find Marcy had a different husband! My younger sister is 15 and she hates M*A*S*H. (My older sister is the one who likes the later years) I keep trying to get her to watch and like the show but she just won't. She even made fun of a guy in her class for having a M*A*S*H shirt on. Needless to say, I slapped her. ;) |
