What TVDVDs have you blind-bought (that doesn't sound right, does it?).... and what TVDVDs do you plan on blind-buying??

TVDVDs I've Blind Bought
Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 1

TVDVD's I Plan on Blind Buying
SCTV Network 90 - Volume 1
Freaks and Geeks - The Complete Series
Newsradio - Seasons 1&2 (whenever it comes)
The Best of Laugh In - Volume 1
The Best of Laugh In - Volume 2
Monty Python's Flying Circus - The Complete Series

I've seen bits and pieces of Laugh In before, and loved what I saw -- not sure if that's technically blind-buying.... but maybe its considered partial blindness.
or an early stage of catarax.

And as for Monty Python's Flying Circus, I've never seen it, but love their movies. I figure its a shoe-in.
I dont know.

Freaks & Geeks is the only one I'd never seen before I bought it. I heard lots of positives, how great a show it was, etc. so I had to find out what all the fuss was about. Turns out everyone was right, it's a GREAT show and an excellent blind buy. I couldn't imagine not owning this, now that I know how good it is.

Actually, Chappelle's Show was a blind buy, I'd really just saw one or two sketches total before I bought the season one set. It's hit or miss, but funny for the most part.

I rented "24" so that may not count as a completely blind buy, but I'd never watched it on tv. From the rental (season one) I was hooked, so I bought season 1 & 2 simultaneously. Smallville, I never watched regularly but saw enough to figure I'd like it, so I recently bought the 2nd season, I may go back and buy the 1st season.

All the other tv-dvds I have, I saw before the purchase. I blind buy movie dvds all the time.

'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Season 1 was a blind buy. [Brad was encouraging me to buy it]

I'm going to be blind-buying 227 when it comes out.

Hmm, what else? I think that's it..

You made some good blind buys but be careful because it can be risky. Let me guess, from that list u didn;t like Mash, and Barney Miller?

The only TV-DVD set I've bought blind was Upright Citizens Brigade: Season 1. I bought it mostly because I adore Amy Poehler from SNL, and she stars on UCB. Well, the show is OK I guess...but it is more bizarre/outrageous than funny IMO. The show is more esoteric than anything. I don't think I'd pick up seasons 2 & 3 if they're released...but the way things are going, it doesn't look like Comedy Central is releasing those sets anyway. I don't recommend UCB to anyone.

I was very tempted to buy Gilmore Girls: Season 1 blind when it first came out, but due to the price, I hesitated. I recently ended up buying the individual DVD with just the pilot episode on it. I haven't had a chance to watch the entire show yet, as the first copy I bought was defective, and I haven't seen the new one I got yet. I bet i'll like it, and if so, I'll buy the Season 1 set later this year.

As for Freaks and Geeks, BUY IT! I have yet to find a person who has seen it and doesn't like it. Its TV gold, IMO.

Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 1 was a blind buy. I don't have HBO, so I couldn't see the show any other way. I'm not a big Seinfeld fan, but I really love CYE.

Dilbert I was not too impressed by this show. I have only watched a couple episodes and have never been in the mood since.

Just Shoot Me! Sort of. I've seen bits and pieces of the show. It wasn't til I bought the DVDs that I saw a full episode.

Mr. Show Another HBO show. I bought it, didn't find it all that funny. Luckily, my sister thinks it's hilarious, so I gave the DVDs to her.

Planet of the Apes I actually like the series more than the movies.

Son of the Beach I think this show is funny. Unfortunatly, the company isn't planning on releasing volume 2. All we needed was volume 2 and then the entire series would be out on DVD.

The X-Files I'm waiting until I can buy the rest of the show. Then I'm gonna try to watch them all in order. I know all the seasons are out, but when I go to the store, I'm just never enthused enough to pick up the series.

Blind buys I've made because of positive comments I've heard and I haven't regretted:

Malcolm In the Middle
Nip/Tuck
The Office

Blind buys I've made in which I've watched the first episode or two, but haven't been compelled to continue further (Although I plan to give them second chances and continue with further episodes to see if they grow on me):

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer
The Ben Stiller Show
Family Guy
JKX: The Jamie Kennedy Experiment
Starsky and Hutch

Blind buys I'm considering (Because I've heard a lot of positive comments about them):

Freaks & Geeks
Boomtown
Northern Exposure
Dream On

Shows I've considered as blind buys but decided against:

Baretta
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Dawson's Creek
The Dead Zone
South Park

Well the first blind buy for me was MASH season 1. That was the only one I regretted buying. I think I'm smarter now about blind buys, i was going to buy the Mary Tyler Moore Show, but I've seen clips and I don't think that is something I would find entertaining.

If you could tell me what some of your favorite shows are, maybe it is up your alley.

Because I recommend it to EVERYBODY.
Its one of the few shows that very few people dont like.
It may not be people's favorites.... but its hard not to enjoy.

Seinfeld, Three's Company and Married... With Children are my favorite sitcoms. MTM season 1 costs $40.00 so I'm not sure I would want to take the risk. With the other sitcoms I've blind bought, they only cost me $20.00 - $25.00.

If jpnoyes doesn't, I will. That's a good price for that set. I think I've gotta add that to my list too. MTM is definitely a classic sitcom.

Thanks anyway but I checked out ddd.com a while ago and found out they only accept credit cards. I buy all of my tvdvds at amazon.com. I have a lot of tvdvds to buy over the summer, maybe in september I'll see about buying MTM.

I agree.
Disc 4 is worth $20 alone.
A full length behind the scenes feature on the show.
87 minutes.... that's longer than most Disney movies.

well, speaking as a huge fan of the series, the first season of Buffy is by far the worst. The first season is very campy and is a complete opposite of seasons 2-7. I know a lot of people that I converted to fans through watching reruns, but I always tell them "bare through season 1 and wait until you get to season 2", and then they all love it after they've seen the second season, which was when the show REALLY took off IMO.

this one, Comedy Central airs the reruns every weeknight at 9:30, check some of them out and then decide if you like it or not. I love it personally.

well, not a complete "blind buy", but I will admit to have only seen about 3 episodes of Charlie's Angels in my life before I purchased season 1. Whenever TV Land aired it, they always aired the same few episodes, but when they showed Angels In Chains a few months ago during their Spelling marathon, I was "this show kicks ass!!!!" and wound up buying season one, which I liked enough to buy season 2 as well.

 I thought I was the only who did that.

I pace around deciding which two I want to buy, cause I usually only buy two at time

Same here. I just recently blind-bought "The Big Chill", "Go" (which I saw last night, great flick), "Office Space" and several other movies. I plan on blind-buying "Before Sunrise" (the 1995 film with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy).
