I kinda disagree. I thought it was alot like Three's Company (or rather, Three's Company was alot like Man of The House, since MATH came first.) It was maybe 15 years ago when I last saw the episodes, but I thought the shows were reminiscint of each other. There were episodes that even featured some of the same lines of dialogue (different character names, of course.)

Hello and greetings from New Zealand.

Sorry, but I too, have got to disagree with Michael Lutton.

Man About The House (Thames Television, 1973-76) and it's American copy, Three's Company (ABC, 1977-84) were very much alike. Many of the original scripts were used again by Three's Company, often only changing the names of the characters and locations.

If you seen the first episode of Man About The House titled Three's A Crowd and compared it to the first episode of Three's Company titled A Man About The House (in acknowledgement to the UK original) you would see that the Three's Company episode was almost word for word the same as the original.

The major difference between the two programmes, was that in the UK original, landlord George Roper worked out that Robin Tripp was not gay by episode two. Meanwhile, in the US copy, Stanley Roper never worked out that Jack Tripper was not gay, and it become an ongoing joke.

Of course, as US sitcoms tend to go on longer than their British counterparts, they developed their own scripts (also a number of character changes were necessary as actors left).

The UK spinoffs were also copied by the US. George And Mildred was made into the Ropers, while Robin's Nest was made into Three's A Crowd (note that this was also the name of the first episode of Man About The House).

Not sure where you heard the 1930's music to, maybe you were watching a different programme!

Three's Company is based on Man About The House.

some usa sitcoms are based on the britcoms.
