Who else likes them equally ?

I do.

I loved Frasier all the way through but in the 11th season, I just don't know.

I love them equally too! But I still think Cheers had a better run. But in terms of entertainment, they're both equally superb.

They're both superb in terms of sheer entertainment & unique writing . Run ? Who cares about that ? They both stayed interesting & entertaining in there 11 year run .

You said so yourself that Cheers had the better run - implying that Cheers is the better show.

I still love both equally - but I believe Cheers is better in terms of quality.

I've come to the conclusion that I like both equally.

Although, I think at their bests.... Frasier surpassed Cheers.

But as for overall run, Cheers stayed consistently better.

Frasier had some great writing! - so did Cheers but CHEERS had more players, set in a bar - giving it more elbow room, whereas, FRASIER had radio show and family... does that make any sense?

I know you'll hate me for this.... but Frasier went downhill (it didnt crash, just a slight slip) when Niles and Daphne got together.
The same could be said for Cheers when Diane left, but I feel of all 22 seasons (between the 2 shows).... the best and worst both come from Frasier.

I think what really matters is that they both have entertained us for years & years .

Then why have the thread??
Why have the message boards??

If we all agreed on everything.... it would be boring.
Just like if everyone on TV shows agreed on everything.... it would be boring.

Nah, I won't hate you for that. I've read in articles about how some fans didn't want Niles and Daphne to get together because of the sexual tension going away. I love when shows build up to a relationship. I can handle it - I watch soaps, so I know!

Darn that Jump the Shark! :p

I still love Niles and Daphne - and I'm in the percentage that loved Diane and Sam getting together! I love being out of the ordinary!

Here's an excerpt:

What I found striking while reviewing these episodes is that I remembered more of the punch lines from Cheers but more plotlines from Frasier. In a way, that summarizes the two shows: Cheers was an exchange of witticisms with more than enough characters to keep it interesting. Frasier, by relying on a smaller cast, was forced to develop the characters it had — sometimes well, sometimes not, but always moving forward. While Cheers rarely used the possibilities its characters offered — such as Sam's alcoholism — the finest episodes of Cheers, in fact, may have come in season 11 when Frasier discovers Lilith has been unfaithful and wants a divorce. In its early years, Frasier retained this emotional core, but it faded over time; in its last season, however, Frasier has improved and refocused on its core three characters, but it still does not possess the strength of the earlier episodes.

CliffClavin
07-21-2004, 12:23 PM
Ok. It didn't posess the strength it did in earlier seasons thats ok , but any show that runs 11 years is going have its ups & downs.

Cool article.

LOS ANGELES -- When the blue-collar barroom comedy "Cheers" ended its run in 1993, it managed the neat trick of turning beer into champagne.

"Frasier," the "Cheers" spinoff about psychiatrist Frasier Crane and his dysfunctional family, became its own vintage blend of sparkling wit and dependably funny highbrow neuroses.

The NBC comedy's last episode airs tonight, closing a remarkable 22-year chapter in television history in which it matched the 11-season run of "Cheers" and became one of TV's most successful spinoffs.

It's an accomplishment a demanding sort like Dr. Crane would relish. Series star Kelsey Grammer certainly does. He believes "Frasier," with David Hyde Pierce as Frasier's brother and partner-in-repartee Niles, raised the TV bar.

"I'm proud of it. I have something I can look to, point out and say, 'Well, I did that,'" said Grammer. "There is an audience for these guys. We proved that. Most of America, frankly, is much smarter than television assumes they are."

The series debuted Sept. 16, 1993. Effete, erudite Frasier's style was matched by fellow shrink Niles but clashed with dad Martin (John Mahoney), a down-to-earth, disabled policeman who ended up bunking with Frasier. Others in the ensemble cast included Jane Leeves as Daphne, Martin's caregiver and the object of Niles' yearning and Peri Gilpin as Frasier's sassy producer.

There was a succession of squeezes for Frasier. The latest flame is Charlotte, played by Laura Linney, who features prominently in the two-hour finale, which includes a retrospective at 8 p.m. Now-married Niles and Daphne, awaiting the birth of their baby, and Martin and fiancee Ronee (Wendie Malick) share the spotlight.

There's no expectation that "Frasier" will draw the 80.4 million viewers who tuned in for the last "Cheers," making it the second-most watched TV series finale ever, or even the 50 million-plus who watched last week's finale of "Friends." ("M-A-S-H" was seen by 105 million viewers.)

"I feel the producers have been able to bring the whole series, for 11 years, to a really sterling conclusion," said Pierce.

I've only been a Frasier fan for roughly a year, but I have to say that it was a fantastic series. Better than Cheers and almost as good as Seinfeld.

The final series was the best by far, not quite Fawlty Towers, but outstanding never the less.

I found Cheers to be a little slow moving and often repetitive at times. Oh, and I HATE that Diane character, she ruined most of the first 3 series.

Anybody got a complete set of cheers in DVD or DivX form?

I hope to have all of them on DVD once they're all released.

I myself think Frasier hit it's peak earlier on - season 11 was good, but not the best in my opinion.

And as for Diane...well...maybe she's an acquired taste.

By the way - welcome to the board! :)

Diane was hilarious the second she walked into the bar, everything about her is hilarious, from her mannerisms, her thoughts on life, to just her general comments

something is just absolutely hilarious about her trying to bring culture to that bar

Her and Sam's relationship was a bit of a downer though, it is kind of protrayed as him doing bad/stupid things all the time, then later on you realize he was actually trying

I think what Chambers meant by acquired taste is... Well, take beer for instance, usually when people first try it they think it's disgusting, but if they keep drinking it, they eventually begin to like it. It's not the same thing as an acquired DISEASE.

I do agree about the box sets though, I'm getting anxious. :)

He just found out because someone was talking to his roommate, and asked where he live, and the kid said "Doesn't John Ritter's son live in that area?" and they guy said "yeah, he's my roommate"

My brother just told me because he know's I'm a TC fanatic
