View Full Version : The Bicycle Man
DarleneIllyria 10-28-2001, 12:03 AM After hearing so much talk about this episode, I just got finished watching. One word comes to mind that pretty much sums that episode up. Wow. I'm glad I finally got to see this episode since N @ N refused to show this episode. It's kind of sad that new shows today don't teach lessons like DS did.

Hottest Men alive:
Dale Midkiff
Anthony Starke
Tim McGraw
Jonathan Crombie
Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?
Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.
Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.
Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.
[Eddie and Lumpy suppress laughter]
Dale Midkiff is my man! :)
Class of 2002! :)
Smokin' Sods 10-28-2001, 01:01 AM One word that comes to mind for me .... CREEPY! Wow, that episode was even creepier than I remembered. But still, what a classic!! Shame on those conservative clowns at NICK AT NITE for not showing perhaps the most memorable episode of that show. I think if kids could handle it in PRIME TIME on a MAJOR NETWORK back in the 80s, the kids of TODAY could handle it, on a friggin CABLE channel nonetheless. Who's running NAN anyway, Ward Cleaver?! Big thumbs up to TV Land for showing this great episode!
callmetootie 10-28-2001, 09:09 AM Was it just me, or did I actually feel like I was in that room, and shaking like a scared dog? That murphy mouse thing was funny, but the Tarzan thing was just totally gross!

Sean Snow 10-28-2001, 11:45 AM Two Words That Have Been Mentioned Came To Me: Wow and Creepy!
I never thought Mr.Horton would do that, he was so nice in the beginning of the episode! I liked how Conrad Bain talked before the opening, and then there was a message put up at the end of part two.
That Tarzan thing & the part where Dudley was hiding Mr.H though was totally gross!
callmetootie 10-28-2001, 11:58 AM I just wanted to tell everyone that the last scene in it, where he comes out of the bathroom, is an effect of the pill that child molesters give, and causes diareeha and nausea...so that was also very constroversal. And yes, the Murphy Mouse collection is real, a 6-episode NC-17 situation cartoon features nudity and cuss words...my video store used to have a copy in the comedy section, but on the cover it read: Warning: This Film Contains Adult Subjects and Graphic Nudity and Rape.....it's a very scary world.

Curtis3331 10-28-2001, 01:01 PM This ep. was very very creepy! I thought it was cool that they showed Conrad Bain talking before the show. But I thought Gordon Jump did a very good acting job. I bet if I were a kid, I would be lured in because he seemed so nice. But this was a very important ep. Most shows today, are either comedy or dramas, but this show is a comedy but also hits some very sensitive subject matter that a lot of shows don't talk about today. Most are either one sided.
Did anyone else also find it ironic, that when Arnold got caught b/c his breath smelled liked wine, that Dana says "why are you drinking, you shouldn't be drinking at your age." And didn't Todd grew up in a messed up family from what I've heard on the E! True Hollywood Story. His father molested him or something like that or beat him, I'm not sure. It just seems all weird...
Pavan 10-28-2001, 01:56 PM Nick at Nite didn't really skip this episode, they never got to these episodes in the regular rotation. They stopped around episode 98, then the Un-re-al-a-thon began, so this episode never got a chance. But I'm sure they would have skipped it, maybe not, who knows.

Of course they would've.
They skipped "Dope" during the many FoL runs, yet TV Land is showing it in the FoL Fandemonium.
And if Dope couldn't get aired, The Bicycle Man had no chance in hell of getting aired.
DarleneIllyria 10-28-2001, 08:27 PM Agreed- N @ N would never show The Bicycle Man. No way, no how they would show it...
Robert Tilton 10-29-2001, 12:28 AM Wasn't this show Righteous?
A perfect example of Famous Shows in Sit Com History; yea even As Good as Marcia Marcia Marcia and Better is this show Famous. As a young mark in the 80s I well really marked out when I saw the famous "Neptune" scene. Talk about Scary!
And as for Nick at Nite?
Well at least they got Cheers http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/eek.gif http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
But they missed out on the famous Bicycle Man and I believe they wouldn't have shown it either. For the kiddies you know http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/rotflmao.gif
According to Slick Nick's mentality Ectascy means having happiness and Righteousness to the Marrow that is Bones, especially w/Brady Bunch being their signature show, never mind that it Ecstacy's also a Date Rape drug that teens and yea kids need to know about (N@N wouldn't show it either were it in a sitcom being the point). Oh well. I can always laugh at the site of Brady Grid being shown at 4:00 AM EST. And for as the sun s=u=n rises in the East and sets in the West Controversial Eppies Within Reason, as Mr Brady says, must be shown to All Nations for Learning and Living. Amen.
And it was. On TV Land.
Righteous.
Oh Darn! I forgot. Nick at Nite and TV Land are owned by the same Company! Hee hee.
So Ergo a uniform policy of showing the controversial programs is required in order for one not to pick on well Slick Nick.
Yes and TNN; they need to remove that Black Bar immediately!
Amen.

Yes I agree. A lot of the storylines on Diff'rent Strokes have irony because of the trouble that Todd and Dana got in. Diff'rent Strokes had episodes about drug and alcohol abuse which were things that Todd and Dana both struggled with. There was the episode where Kimberly had bulemia. Dana had bulemia in real life. There was the episode that dealt with teenage pregnancy. Dana had a baby when she was a teenager. Todd has said that his father was a raging alcoholic. It was a friend of the family that once molested Todd at a young age.
Michele35 10-29-2001, 10:55 PM I saw this episode when I was a kid and watched it again this past weekend during the marathon....I must say that I thought it was even creepier watching it as an adult.
I wasn't planning on really watching much of the DS Marathon,,,however,,I caught a few of the early eps and was hooked for most of the weekend. I caught myself laughing at loud several times...and was really floored when I considered all of the real life issues that DS touched upon during it's run,,ie. child molestation,,bulimia,,sexual assault,,and the list goes on and on. I liked how DS could touch on these subjects without being preachy.

What pill are you talking about, Andrew? I have never heard of this. I find pedophilia very disturbing, so I haven't read too much about it.
jarri 11-06-2003, 07:45 PM This pill might be something like the "date rape" drug. Any weirdo can slip it into a beverage. It is colorless and tasteless, so a person doesnt know that they are drinking it. And it gives you random blackouts for a period of a few hours. Very dangerous stuff! So, I imagine that the pill callmetootie was discussing may be the "date rape" drug.
Austin Tripper 11-12-2003, 01:54 AM I saw this episode as a kid when it first aired.. and it changed my life!!!!
I'd love to see it again..
IF anyone has it maybe we can trade! I'd love with someone!
I'd love to get some of the "very special episodes"that they never showed on N@N:mad:
Please hook me up if you got it! :)
