View Full Version : I'm Listening, and it's boring me.
barwars 07-17-2004, 07:46 PM Taking a cue from the Cheers forums, this is Frasier's first official "Bored People's Post"!!
Talk about anything and everything. Frasier related or not, you're always welcome here.
Although.... Frasier fans only, please.
(Chambers or Moondance, you can sticky this if you like)
barwars 07-17-2004, 07:47 PM anybody here??
Chambers 07-17-2004, 07:55 PM Excellent idea! I'm still learning how to use all my new tools. I was away on a road trip all day and only found out I was a moderator a few minuts ago.
Brian Damage 07-17-2004, 10:50 PM I hope you stick around awhile. DianeChambers87 left me high and dry. lol
Chambers 07-18-2004, 05:27 PM Did DianeChambers87 say she's not returning to the boards? What does TJ do about moderators who disappear? You should have somebody else to help you out with the Cheers board.
Brian Damage 07-18-2004, 09:32 PM I haven't heard from her at all. The last I spoke to her, she was busy with school. I was sure she would return by the summer, yet, no Maria.
Chambers 07-19-2004, 02:08 PM So bored....:bored:
barwars 07-19-2004, 07:11 PM Chambers.... you should lock the episode guide when you're finished.
Chambers 07-19-2004, 07:36 PM Done. Now it's untouchable. Ooh Ahh.
Brian Damage 07-20-2004, 11:27 AM So many stickies!
Brian Damage 07-20-2004, 11:28 AM Here's a suggestion Chambers, why don't you unstick TJ's Frasier DVD thread? I don't think it is neccessary to have it as a sticky. Just a suggestion.
Chambers 07-20-2004, 04:11 PM Good idea. I was considering doing that actually. Thanks :)
Brian Damage 07-20-2004, 10:53 PM :D

What do you mean by "DVD Packet"??
Chambers 07-22-2004, 05:15 PM Oh, I meant like some sort of deal where you could get all three for a slightly lower price. I found one for seasons 1 and 3 - so I got that. Well, it still has to get here. I'll get season 2 later.
Moondance 07-22-2004, 05:53 PM Oooh! Season 2 has "Daphne's Room" and "Adventures In Paradise 1&2!!!!!!" Love those!!!

CliffClavin 07-22-2004, 06:43 PM Season 2 has alot of good episodes you know?
Many memorable & funny episodes.
Chambers 07-22-2004, 06:46 PM I'll hopefully get a job at the library next semester - then I can pay for season 2 and this other DVD set for a British sketch show called French and Saunders - it's simply brilliant!!!
Moondance 07-22-2004, 07:08 PM The only british dvds at my house belong to my brother - Monty Python - hahaha! He has THE MEANING OF LIFE and I know exactly where Jane Leeves is in that movie! http://img11.photobucket.com/albums/v34/TroyandLindseyFan/zwinkern_2.gif
Other than that - Season 3 has that adorable interview with DHP *sigh* http://members.aol.com/OLTLnews/luvluv.gif

Moondance 07-22-2004, 07:31 PM Cliff, I don't think Niles is your type. You can have Bebe Glazer or Martin Crane, if you must!

If you can't catch it on BBC America and really want to give it a try, I suggest getting one of the seasons - it's only 13 dollars, I think. Of course, I intend on getting the whole thing.

We only have basic cable and dont get BBC America or HBO.... so I spend the money on DVDs rather than getting the channel.
For example.... Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Moondance 07-22-2004, 07:57 PM We've got digital cable - over 1000 channels but the ones over 500 are pay-per-view - that stinks!

But if Niles is smart and rich and married to somebody who is incredibly sexy...then Diane is a pseudo-intellectual and...um...well this is beside the point.

Yes, from what I've seen, I'd say Frasier, too - assuming you don't wipe off your chairs before sitting in them.
I'd say I'm a mixture of Lilith, Diane and Carla....which isn't saying much since those three are so different they cover most people on this planet.

It's from some episode in Season 11 (not sure which one) where Niles hasn't slept for days and has to deal with Maris (with her murdering her lover and all) and then just goes crazy and strips at Cafe Nervosa.
The black circles under his eyes are meant to be there.
VERY funny.

Chambers 07-23-2004, 09:10 PM Just watched the Halloween episode where Frasier dresses up as Sigmund Freud and Niles, as Martin. Not the best episode, but there's one line in particular that I loved:
Martin: [seeing Daphne dressed as Elton John kissing Niles] Stop that, you two.
Niles: Why?
Martin: I don't want to see myself making out with Elton John.
Oh, and I made a frightening observation. I throw parties just like Frasier: there must be a plan to prevent chaotic groupings of people who just stand around and drink. Gosh, I feel sorry for my guests.

I was shocked at that too. I expected a resolution to that fight. It's a really fun episode, but the writers just seemed tired. But I'll give them some slack. Eleven years of producing excellence can really tire one out.
barwars 07-23-2004, 09:41 PM I agree with how Martin reacted though.
Niles acted how Martin would sound on paper.... but in real life ("Frasier real life" that is) he was the nicest guy in the world.

Awesome. If you're not planning on going in order.... I HIGHLY recommend Travels With Martin on Disc 4 of Season 1.
Chambers 07-30-2004, 07:53 PM Will do.
I've watched pretty much all of these episodes, but that was a long time ago when they first aired. I'm trying to move through them slowly. So far I have watched the Pilot, "the show where lilith comes back" and "the show where diane comes back." The Pilot is sooooo much better than both of those.

I would rank them....
3. The Show Where Diane Comes Back
2. The Good Son (Pilot)
1. The Show Where Lilith Comes Back (what can I say? Im a frith. Not to mention the interaction between the 3 Cranes and Lilith is probably one of the best scenes in the history of the show. Especially when Martin pulls his cane in when Lilith tells him she's especially excited to see him. Haha.... classic.)

Chambers 07-30-2004, 08:28 PM Haha you Frith. The first part was great, but I hate it when people get too emotional on sitcoms - especially when they cry and it isn't funny (I didn't laugh when Lilith started crying).
I changed my status from Sam&Diane fan to just Diane fan. On Frasier, however, nothing beats Martin, Frasier and Niles.
I said I would go slowly...and I've already watched 4 episodes. Just watched "Travels with Martin." For some reason I remembered that as two episodes...not sure why.
The highlights for me:
Daphne saying "sure"
The way Niles says "fun" when the officer asks them the purpose of their visit to Canada

I've NEVER been a fan of Sam&Diane, and only a few months ago did I begin to even count Diane as a favorite. Sam -- still is at the end of the list (with Backseat Becky of course)
I agree about the highlights of the episode. I also like when Frasier and Martin talk about extending the trip, and decide to drive into the morning and tell Daphne they're in Mexico! THAT wouldve been a good 2-Parter.
barwars 07-30-2004, 08:37 PM Also.... when Niles said "Those were awful, those family driving vacations. Dad insisting on covering as many miles as possible in a day. The two of us tiny hostages in the back seat, clutching out car sickness bags... straining to see something out of the window as the landscape whizzed by... I was thirteen before I realized cows aren't blurry!"
(quote courtesy ofThe Frasier Files (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Derby/3267/121.html))
Chambers 07-30-2004, 08:45 PM I loved that Mexico line. And the cows.
On the subject of the dreaded Sam&Diane couple, I should have realized I wasn't really a fan a long time ago since I never really liked "Power Play." As for my Diane obsession - it has cooled down significantly. Diane is good in small doses.
No more episodes for tonight - I promised myself.

Nice avatar. Showdown is different from Powerplay. The latter, IMO, ignored the people at the bar too much. There was something about the structure of that episode that always bugged me - part of it has to do with how they practically left out the bar in the second act. And I never found the whole stuffed animal bit very funny. Showdown has a lot of good scenes with all of the characters. I especially like the one where Diane can't shut up for 10 seconds.
Anyway....I watched "Coffee with Niles." BAD IDEA - my dad was sleepy and, naturally, fell asleep. I love that episode though.
Frasier: Well, I suppose the situation you're in is that you'd like
to stay with Maris but you'd like an affair with Daphne.
Niles: Yes. Can I do that?
And the part when Martin pretends to be blind.

Coffee With Niles.... a great episode, IMO. Very "Seinfeld" IMO. But.... nothing something to show to someone when they're sleepy.... and especially not good if they're being introduced to the show for the first time. Yes, he's seen it before. Martin is his favorite. The problem with my dad is he works too much. When he comes home, he's dead tired. Oh, the other problem is that he sometimes gets Cheers mixed up with Frasier...then again he does confuse my name with my sister's...

Ah-ah, Cliffie - Karen belongs to Jack! Step away from the wealthy self-absorbed liquor chugger - and her highly dramatic friend Jackie Brown;)

CliffClavin 08-05-2004, 08:42 PM For some odd reason I'm attracted to her character Karen.Seems sexy to me.
Moondance 08-05-2004, 08:46 PM She's very sexy - she'll sit in Grace's office filing her nails and nothing else, hahaha!
She knows what looks good and doesn't give a care about other people but herself;)
She loves to hang around with the coolest guy on the show, Jack McFarland...
She loves to spend Stan's money!!!

Chambers 08-07-2004, 08:06 PM Now now - nobody gang up on Brian. I mean, I hate ELR, but I'm not just gonna say it . Oh - I just did. Sorry, Brian.
The puppy is finally sleeping. I forgot how much work it is - taking care of a puppy. The hard work doesn't come from cleaning up his mess (he hasn't given me that sort of trouble yet) - it comes from PREVENTING him from making a mess. He's really quite calm and sweet. But so much damn work. He even tired my other dog out. Oh crap. He woke up.
Brian Damage 08-07-2004, 10:00 PM aaaaaaaaaaaah what do you guys know about good television? What do you like? oh, oh let me guess Frasier?!? ;)
PS, the show ELR has its good moments....especially when Debra is taking care of business.
Pirate Jenny 08-07-2004, 10:29 PM ELR?

Yeah I don't like that crazy ELR stuff either. My parents do though.

Oh ok, I have a question for you, Chambers...
Do you ever see Summer? I mean, you live in Boston during the school year, and then summer comes around and you go down to South America, where its winter, right?
So do you ever get to enjoy summer? Or complain because it's too hot? Do you just live out your years in sweaters?
Sorry, this has been on my mind all day. I'm curious.

Yup :(. For the past two years I've had only a few week so summer (mostly in December when I'm down here for the holidays). The rest of the time...I do live in sweaters. Which reminds me...I need more sweaters.
Moondance 08-08-2004, 02:54 PM I don't think I've ever watched ELR...I did try to watch Welcome to Mooseport last month and found Ray Ramono very dull - I couldn't even finish the movie.

Chambers 08-17-2004, 12:16 PM Found it! It doesn't look too good this big, though. The pixels are way too big. I'm going to try to find a better quality, larger picture with the window and try this again.
I made some minor changes on this larger version, hoping it would look better. I also tried to get rid of the NBC logo.

I, too, love seeing Roz and Martin together at last!!! Hmm, could Martin have chosen Ronnie because that name was similar to ROZ?!
Here's the scene:
Martin's Bedroom - Night
Martin: Lord, I don't usually come to you very often, but this is important. I really would like to go out on a date with a very special woman - you might know her - Ro... (Eddie jumps on the bed & on Martin's stomache) ...NNIE - OOOOW!!!!
Could have been!

Cool pictures, Chambers. One little nitpicky thing, though...
on this one (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=23774&password=&sort=2&cat=517&page=1) um...I'm sure Frederick gets made fun of a lot, but the proper term for the ceremony is Bar Mitzvah. Bat Mitzvah means "daughter of the commandments." Chicks become a bat mitzvah at their bat mitzvah ceremony, guys become a bar mitzvah at their bar mitzvah ceremony.
Come on, he already has to deal with the middle name "Gaylord," give the guy a break. (Even though he is kinda funny looking.)

I just figured it was a nice little Cheers reference.
I wonder what it would sound like in klingon (is that term? sorry -- not a treky)

Wait. What was a nice little reference to Cheers? Frederick looking funny? His middle name?
And what would what sound like in klingon? Oh, I'm so confused!
Hey, guess what, guys! While I was in Seattle, the house-sitter managed to kill both of my birds. He didn't feed them. They starved to death.

Oh you have to do more than just kill that guy. You have to make sure he suffers first.

Oh, well that explains it. I haven't seen that episode yet.
I've been reviewing the season 3 episodes, and the more I watch them, the more I realize what a great character Noel is. After Bulldog, he's my favorite of the KACL staff.
"The all-powerful space vixen Rozalinda, four-breasted queen of the planet Rozniak."

Thats what we TV geeks like to call jumping the shark.
The series hit an ultimate low when "Niles' heart hurts"
not that it was bad, just a lowpoint for such a good series
CliffClavin 08-19-2004, 05:03 PM I just don't know if that it was too sad for a show like Frasier or it didn't exactly fit into the series .
What does everyone else think ?

Both of those are true. If the plot is too sad and serious, it doesn't fit a series like Frasier.

I liked it, actually - but then again, I was raised on watching soaps! Those can really rip out your heart... sometimes drama is good for a sitcom:) JMO! It just goes to show how far these actors can stretch their acting capabilities!
To me, it was a way of strengthening Niles and Daphne's relationship to a new level:)
