I guess they are tallying up the sales of season 3 to see if season 4 will be released.

I have no doubt in my mind that every season will eventually be released.

The biggest thing that prevents TV shows from coming to DVD (besides music rights) is picture quality.
I read that in 2001 when Cheers was syndicated to N@N and given as a gift (the entire series uncut) to some Museum of Television Arts (or something like that).... Paramount spent 180 MILLION DOLLARS restoring the footage to what it looks like.

DVDs are just easy money. And after 180Million, they're gonna need it.

I'm predicting a November/December release.

Also, does anybody have information on how well the first three DVD sets sold?

I think most of the video releases dealt with the Diane years more simply because they occurred first.
And, I know TV-VHS never really took off -- so they probably stopped and never bothered that much with the Rebecca years.

I was afraid that would be the answer.... I hope that won't be the case for the DVDs. I'm guessing it won't be. The VHS releases suck compared to the DVD sets. I'm still trying to find out about how sales were, though.

TV-VHS in general never worked.
They took up too much space, and there was no chance for special features.
Now, TVDVD is the fastest growing DVD market.

Im not sure how the DVDs sold, but to my understanding (as a HUGE TVDVD fan) no show has ever had 3 seasons released and then been cut off.

Season 1 is testing the market.
Season 2 is seeing if they're still there.
but Season 3 is just easy money.

Its either 1 (or 2).... or everything.

Whew! That makes me feel better. I'll trust that assertion.

I hope the extras on season 4 are significantly better than the last three, however. I'm tired of those clips. We've seen the episodes already, we don't need to see all those scenes again. I'm crossing my fingers for more interviews.

The idea of the dvd's starting to not sell well and then not making it to series 11 scares the life out of me. Of course if they hurried up with the releases, we'd get there much quicker!

I guess it's a good that the DVD hasn't come out...seeing as I don't have that job yet. But if there's no news in the next couple of months, I'm planning a protest.

What the hell is holding Paramount back? Are they inserting Jabba the Hutt into the Thanksgiving episode via CGI?

Paramount pisses me off sometimes. Would they just get the dvds out! Oh well thre's many more tv shows I have to buy while waiting for cheers.

I wish they would just release seasons 4 & 5 already. They released season 3 in March, seasons 4 & 5 should be out by now! Friends season 8 will be released in November & seasons 9 & 10 of Friends will be released next year. Is Cheers on tv anymore? What time (central time) & what channels it the show on?

I'd like to shake the hand of whomever decided to shoot Cheers on film. A very smart decision. If it was videotaped, it wouldn't look this good, even with the best remastering/restoration technology available.

Very true though -- Cheers looks great. (And on "Rescue Me", you can tell that video tape was used for the Europe scenes)
