ok, does anyone know if and where I can download the song Bupkis? Or if not, maybe you can help me...my brother and I seem to disagree about how one part of the song goes. I say it goes, "What did I get from you? Bupkis!" and my brother thinks it goes, "What did I get from you? Bup-kis!" so he thinks that the word is broken up like Bup and then kis, so it's like "bup kis" and I say that it's one word said quickly together "bupkis! so if you can help that would be great!

No, you're right it's Bupkis. If it were bup kis then the title of the episode would be bup kis ( at least I think it would be).

I hope this hasn't been said before (I just registered today), but the word bupkis means "nothing (derisively)" in Yiddish. As in "I invested $5000 in that farcockte shlemiel's business and what did I get? Bupkis!

It actually means something a little more vulgar than the word 'nothing' ( anyone catching my drift...?) The writer who wrote that episode thought it meant 'nothing'. After the episode was filmed, his parents told him why he couldn't say that word on tv, but , he did anyway.

The writer of the episode thought that is meant "nothing" because whenever he asked his mother what it meant, she told him "nothing". It is because of that song that the general public thinks that's what it means also.

About 6 months ago, a co-worker used the word "bupkis" during a conversation, and I asked her is she knew what it really meant. All the others listening to the conversation thought that it meant "nothing" so I told them the story about how that misconception came about. It's amazing how TV can change the meaning of a word.
