View Full Version : Verizon DLS vs Comcast Cable Modem
MandieR1980 07-15-2004, 03:13 PM I have a cable modem through Comcast but it's getting to be so expensive added to the cable bill. Verizon DSL has finally become available in my area and it's cheaper but I'm afraid it's gonna be slower. Anyone have this?
James"Thunder"Early 07-15-2004, 03:32 PM a cable modem is faster than DSL so I'd stick with the modem, but if it is too expensive, switch. I have a cable modem and digital it's only around 40 dollars and I think Verizon was more when I was comparing rates.
MandieR1980 07-15-2004, 03:40 PM I keep seeing Verizon DSL as 29.99 a month. My cablem modem is close to $50

It depends. My cable modem is lightning fast, but if you live in a heavily populated area where a lot of people subscribe to the same cable Internet service, it tends to slow your connection down some.
If it were me, I'd keep the cable. Although I'd call Comcast, say I'm cancelling (mentioning I'm leaving to take advantage of Verizon's prices), and see if they cut me a deal. It's worth a shot.
Brent88 07-15-2004, 04:37 PM They both have advantages. My uncle lives in the Country and has DSL and it was awfully slow compared to my cable connection(and I live in a town of 10,000). It felt like I was back in dial-up again.
EmoJoe 07-15-2004, 05:00 PM Cable Modem, IMO, is probably better, although Ive never tried DSL.
Brent88 07-15-2004, 05:03 PM Our cable internet is $34.95 a month(including $5 modem lease). Expanded basic cable(79 channels) is $29.99 a month. Great deals compared to what I see in other places. My grandparents pay $42.95 for about 65 channels on cable. I have no idea what cable internet is there.

When we keep trying to cancel with AOL, they always give us an extra two months free.
We've been calling to cancel since March, and every two months they give us another two months for free.
Sargent Stewie 07-15-2004, 07:03 PM I have verizon and now all i do is go on the computer.:)
Kay Scarpetta 07-15-2004, 07:23 PM I'm getting Verizon DSL in a few months. I would have LOVED to get Comcast Cable, but it's like $55 in my area and my dad won't buy it. He's under the impression that DSL is some lightening-fast miracle. We'll he's gonna be in for a rude awakening.
Besides, I don't think you can have Comacast Internet with Direct TV anyway.

You can have cable internet with a satellite but it costs more. You get a deal getting cable and internet together from the same company.

I know. I used to work for AOL (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&postid=1456294). There's an entire department dedicated to trying to get people to change their minds when they call in to cancel.
