View Full Version : Forever
As most of you know, I'm famously not a Full House fan. I did, however, watch the show religiously as a kid. Tastes change, I guess.
That said, I know John Stamos recorded the song "Forever" in the early '90s, but what most of you probably don't know is that it's actually a cover of a Beach Boys song from 1970.
The song was written by late Beach Boy Dennis Wilson (http://www.danaddington.com/denny/index.html) (who provided the lead vocal) with collaborator Gregg Jakobson.
I have expressed in the past my distaste for the version John Stamos sung (in fact, I hate just about everything The Beach Boys put out after 1977). If you like it, that's cool. I just want to give you a chance to hear the beautiful original version of "Forever."
So I ripped an MP3 of it, and, for a limited time, have uploaded it to my webspace. If you'd like to hear it, click here (http://home.comcast.net/~aka909walrus/Forever.mp3).
"Forever" can be found on The Beach Boys' 1970 album Sunflower (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004TJXS/qid=1089849942/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-9866310-8290329?v=glance&s=music) (which, in its current CD incarnation, is paired up with its 1971 follow-up, Surf's Up).
Forever
(D. Wilson/G. Jakobson)
If every word I said
Could make you laugh
I'd talk forever (together my love)
I asked the sky just what we had
It shone forever
If the song I sing to you
Could fill your heart with joy
I'd sing forever (together my love)
Forever
Forever
I've been so happy loving you
Let the love I have for you
Live in your heart
And beat forever (together my love)
Forever
Forever
I've been so happy loving you
Baby just let me sing it my baby
I wanna be singin' my baby
Baby baby baby my baby
I wanna be singin'
I wanna be singin' my baby
Oh oh oh oh
My my my my my my
So I'm goin' away
But not forever
I gotta love you any old way
Forever
musicradio77 07-14-2004, 08:14 PM Thank you very much for the song and lyrics AKA. I've never heard the original version before. It is still a great song. The Beach Boys sang it. And by the way, I don't have the album "Sunflower", I might get the record someday. If you like to listen to a remake where John Stamos sang lead, here it is!

This is another version of the same song which has a choir in it.

By the way, thank you for the original version of the song. I'll keep it on my IPod.;)
Glad you liked it, BrooklynGuy.
barb1686 07-15-2004, 05:02 PM I liked Jesse's version better, but then again I'm not a huge Beach Boys fan...I prefer the Beatles. :D But thanks for the mp3, I've never heard the original before. ;)

In 2001, a breathtakingly beautiful a capella mix of the 1970 recording was created for the from-the-vault Beach Boys collection, Hawthorne, CA. In it, you can hear some vocals that were buried by the instruments.

musicradio77 07-16-2004, 10:38 PM Oh my goodness! I've never heard the a cappella version before. I thought the intsruments were not here. But thanks for the mp3 file AKA. I will also add it to my IPod.;)
G-Force Glockstar 07-17-2004, 12:18 AM Thanks for the lyrics!
I'll be taking the MP3s down by the end of the week (probably by Friday), so if you'd like to download these two tracks, you're going to want to take care of that by Friday.
Thanks.

I understand that. Don't worry, I have 2 songs on my IPod. But, if there is a album on vinyl that I like to get one day if I can go to certain yard sales or flea markets, I could find a Beach Boys LP called "Sunflower". I can get it soon.:D
EmoJoe 07-19-2004, 08:36 PM Thanks for the lyrics! :D

You can actually get it on CD, too. Usually vinyl sounds better to me, but this is an exception. Excellent remastering by Mark Linnett that doesn't use digital trickery.
The album is paired up with the following album (1971's) Surf's Up) on CD, so you'll find it listed as "Sunflower/Surf's Up" on the spine.
