Hello everyone, I just joined although I have enjoyed this show for some time. I just saw a show on Lifetime today at noon that had a woman whose baby born in 1962 was taken from her, she assumes, and the hospital told her the baby died. I think the baby's last name was Gross & first name was Mary, and the mother had been young & unwed, & some time after she was told the baby died, things did not add up, including a strange photo sent to her house with an unknown family & baby in it. The remains in her daughter's "grave" were not hers, DNA showed. This is the 2nd time I have seen this show & have been very fascinated by it. Does anyone know what happened with this mystery, if it was ever solved, the woman found her daughter etc? I cannot explain my fascination with this particular episode, but I really want to find out if any progress was ever made. Thanks in advance.

Did the mother even give up the baby for adoption? I don't remember it being mentioned. Those doctors and nurses at the hospital are really mean if they told the mother that her baby died, but it was actually alive and given up for adoption without her permission!!!  Oh yeah, the baby's name was Mary Agnus Gross (I think).

I remember that one! The whole thing seemed rather bizarre- especially the part in which the funeral home director actually forbade the baby's aunt (I think) to take a photograph of the deceased baby (whoever it was) in the coffin citing it being 'against policy'! As odd as it sounds, I think it's possible that the deceased baby's mother (whoever she was) had made a deal for a black market adoption but when HER baby was born dead, the hospital decided to substitute another baby- and what better candidate than that of an unwed mother? I hope one day this case gets solved and Miss Gross finds out what really happened to her baby (and possibly unites with her offspring for the first time)!

Sounds like the infants were put into a Georgia Tann-like operation to me, which is immensely unfortunate. Undoubtedly a result of the harmful stigmas and stereotypes about single mothers of the period.
Ethically, the doctors and nurses probably actually thought they were doing the right thing by giving this woman's child away. :(

I just watched this episode about a week ago and I agree completely. How horrible :(
