View Full Version : Animal Killings
Mystery-Lover 07-09-2004, 10:51 PM I remember seeing two cases in which animals were killed, or should I say murdered?
1.) In Nevada wild horses run free in majesty. But then some psycho began to gun down hundreds of the wild horses. Who would want to kill these beautiful creatures and for what purpose?
2.) In Missouri (I believe) a woman owns this property to shelter dogs. Then one night a psycho shoots four dogs, only two survived. And eventually, the barn that the dogs were kept in was set on fire and many of the dogs died. Who is this dog-killing freak?
In the Unsolved Mysteries Episode Guide on this website I also read that there was a mystery on the deaths of sea lions in California, but I never saw that case. Have any of you seen it? Are any of you open and willing to talk about these bizarre animal killings? Please give me more info on these stories if you can. These bizarre animal killings are pretty fascinating to me because on this show you mostly see murders of people, even though they are more interesting. So what do you guys have to say about this?
maniaguy6 07-09-2004, 11:02 PM I saw the sea lions episode the other day on an old tape that I had found. One sea lion was shot and died about six weeks later. The other sea lion ate a fish with some kind of flare in it which "blew up." The incidents occured in the late summer and early fall of 1988. The person who did that was sick and deserves the most severe punishment. I believe that they caught the person responsible for the acts. It was such a sad story. Those sea lions in particular actually came up to humans in very gentle ways. It broke my heart just watching the story.
Fletch 07-10-2004, 06:13 AM I have seen all of these cases....and yeah, the Sea Lions one was really sad :(
The Dog one was sad too....I really felt sorry for the lady who runs the shelter.
Once again, UM helps us remember that there are a lot of messed up people in this world.
Mystery-Lover 07-10-2004, 12:00 PM Thanx, for replying! That sea lion case sounds so sad! :( But I want to see it! And guys, are there any other stories where animals were killed that I'm missing here?
Mystery-Lover 07-10-2004, 04:59 PM Hello, anyone out there? I need someone else to explain the wild horses and dogs cases more vividly. I need more info. You could give me more info on the sea lion cases too. :)
dynoguy88 07-10-2004, 09:25 PM The dogs case to this day still makes me very angry.
It happened in Missouri in 1986 I believe. The woman who owned the farm with the huge kettle was named Mable Woods. The farm was in the middle of no where. No neighbors around for miles and miles.
She was always a dog lover and whenever she was in town, if she saw any strays, she would pick them up and take them back to her farm. She sold as many dogs as she could and any dogs that didn't get sold would live their life out on the farm.
One late night, a man walked on to the farm and shot 2 of the dogs. One died and the other was rushed to a vet and saved. Mable was upset about it and called the sheriff but she knew there was nothing they could really do. Then, a month of two later was when the real drama happened; the fire.
At around 2:00 in the morning, some man walked back on to the farm and poured gasoline all over the kettle and set it a blaze. Mable, and the man she hired to help run the farm didn't realize the kettle was on fire until it was completely engulfed in flames. Inside were 60 dogs and they were only able to save 1. The other 59 dogs burned to death. The fire was so intense, that it set off smoke alarms in homes over a mile away.
A few days later, fire investigators discovered that the fire had been set by someone. What they never found out was why. Since the fire, she got harrassed by some unknown person, spray painting messages near her house and pouring nails all over her driveway. Mable's friends and family urged her to move but she refused saying that she is not going anywhere. Mable rebuilt her farm kettle and is back to having a ton of dogs. She built a huge cement fence around the kettle and as an extra precaution, she got 2 huge mean dogs that don't like people to guard it.
My opinion - This case still makes me furious. I'm an animal lover, especially of dogs and there was absolutely no point in doing this. With no neighbors, there was no way the dogs could have disturbed anyone. The man/woman who did this was just a heartless person who was looking to hurt Mable.
I just lost my dog of 16 years a few months ago to old age and it's still very hard not having him around the house.
Mystery-Lover 07-11-2004, 04:53 AM dynoguy88, thanks for the info. :) Now I just need someone to further explain the wild horses case... ...

I have not seen this one in years, so my memory may be spotty, but if I remember correctly, the story was about wild horses that were supposedly being slaughtered in the Nevada dessert. Carcasses were found, and while it was apparent that some of the horses had died from natural causes, others appeared to have been shot. Local landowners and ranchers were initially suspected in the deaths as the horses frequently came on to their property. I believe this was going on in the mid to late eighties. The case was not solved to my knowledge.

Mystery-Lover 07-14-2004, 04:03 PM That's enough information. You know, I had the wild horses case on tape once. But then I taped over it. Now I regret that did! I used to use one tape to record Unsolved Mysteries. And after watching all of the cases on the tape, I would just tape over them for different mysteries. But I don't do that anymore. Now when I reach the end of a tape I just use a brand new one to tape more mysteries instead. I'm so mad at myself that I taped over that case and a lot of the other earlier cases from the late 80's and early 90's!

I can't even watch that case because I break down into tears and start hyperventilating it is so aweful. Yes, I remember that there was only 1 dog that she was able to save. But, I will never watch that segment again. It is horrifying behond all words and comprehension.
There is a disclaimer after the segment that says none of the animals were hurt in the reenactment. But, to be honest, I am getting emotional just replying to this thread.

Blackhawks2004 09-26-2004, 06:14 PM The town in question is a very small place in south-eastern MO called Bonne Terre. It's about 60 miles Southwest of St. Louis, and it's nearest neighbours are Festus and Farmington. I only lived in the town for a short time, but I met almost everyone there (in the bars...nothing else to do). Surprisingly, no one seemed to know much about the incident, or if they did, they werent going to talk about it. For all I know, I could have had a beer with the SOB responsible.
People that hurt animals are the scum of the earth.
