Wow -- nice to see that both Maureen and Eve will participate. Now if we can just get Eve to slap a smile on her face while doing the special, we'll be all set.

Hey, Paramount -- how about a DVD release to commemorate the anniversary?

Hey, Paramount -- how about a DVD release to commemorate the anniversary?

EW recently had an article on that. I've heard it is coming in 2005, but this EW article says it is only "in consideration" for 2005:

We're Dyin' For... 'The Brady Bunch'
EW petitions for ''Brady Bunch'' DVD collection --

June 11, 2004

Paramount has no immediate plans to release the cheesy 70s sitcom and EW wants to know why

by Joshua Rich

We saved up all our Checker Trading Stamps, and, unable to decide between a sewing machine and a rowboat, we got ourselves a brand-new color TV set! (Groovy!) But what do we have to play on it? Not DVDs of ''The Brady Bunch,'' it turns out. A Paramount spokesman says a release ''is under consideration for next year,'' but we're not sure we can wait. Especially now that we're tantalized by the sly behind-the-scenes TV movie ''Growing Up Brady'' (PG-13, 88 mins., 2000, Paramount). Sure enough, we feel a certain unspeakable bliss watching Adam Brody and Kaley Cuoco (pre-''The O.C.'' and ''8 Simple Rules...'') reenact the blossoming of Barry Williams and Maureen McCormick's pseudo-incestuous love affair when Greg and Marcia fight over the attic bedroom. And we weep as Robert Reed (Daniel Hugh Kelly) struggles with the show's fabulously anti-Shakespearean scripts. But, really, like all those Kitty Karry-All dolls, this just isn't as good as the original. Come on, Paramount! As the song goes, ''when it's time to change, you've got to rearrange'' -- and put out on DVD the most beloved dopey sitcom ever. Only then will it truly be a sunshine day.

Interesting -- you'd think that a Brady DVD release would be a no-brainer. I wonder if Sherwood Schwartz owns a big enough piece of the pie that it's less lucrative for Paramount, so they're not making it high priority.

Thanks, Pav.

Sherwood was quoted at some function saying that the DVD is in the works, but it seems Paramount is moving slowly on it.

I just got back from taping of "Still Brady" special. ( taped Sunday 4-7pm) Had a fun time. Jenny McCarthy was the host of the special. She has an energetic, funny, and upbeat personality, and kept this reunion fresh and moving right along! She had her hair styled long and straight like Marcias.

Ronny G, can you tell us the format/order of events for the evening? Did they open up for questions from the audience?

Ronny G

Hi,

It was like a talk show format, but they didn't field questions from the audience. They did ask questions while we were waiting in line outside that they said would be edited into the program before and after commercial breaks kind of thing. The questions were like, "What did you learn from the Brady Bunch" or "What bothered you about the Brady Bunch". The whole audience was asked to sing the theme song in unison, and we were told that is how they will open the show.

Jenny introduced the cast and they all came out and sat down. She then asked them the same questions you all have heard a million times before--what happened to Tiger, did Barry have a crush on Florence, what's your favorite episode. However, Jenny was very witty and made it all seem fresh. I guess they took a poll on tv land to name each character's outrageous moment, and Jenny went one by one and asked each actor what they thought was their most outrageous moment, like when Bobby dreamed he was Jesse James sidekick, or when he saw a UFO. Later on, Ann B. Davis came out for a "Surprise" visit, (But we all saw her arrive while we were standing out in line).

The best thing was the set! It was a replica of the Brady Bunch Living Room with the familar staircase, and a modified version of the kitchen with burnt orange formica counter tops and avacado green fridge. Our audience warm-up girl told us the set pieces were not the original ones, but were used in the Brady Bunch Goes to Wash. tv movie. The only original piece she said was a painting of horses that originally hung in the den. They were on loan from the Paramount props dept. (The special was taped at Sunset-Gower Studios (formerly the old Screen Gems lot). It was fun listening in on the cast's comments between takes. Maureen siad the horse statue looks bigger to her now.

Of all the kids, the nicest one was Mike Lookinland, and of course, Florence. He came up to the audience to sign autographs between takes, and would often talk and acknowlege the audience--unlike Eve who would look the other way.

There's so many more details. If you have anymore questions, let me know.

Thanks Ronny G! I'll really look forward to seeing this on TV. I'm really glad to see that Mike Lookinland did that. I wish he were a more public person. I'm especially a fan of Christopher Knight's. If you can remember anything he said, especially during breaks, I'd be glad to hear it. But anyway, thanks for the summary!

I can't recall anything specifically that Chris said to the audience between takes, other than the fact that Jenny said he was HOT and kept flirting with him. He did tell Jenny that he's been exercising more now after letting himself go for a few years.

Oh, and the most SURREAL moment came at the end of the show. You know all those old publicity shots of the casts on the steps through the years lined up according to age. They had the cast recreate their position on the stairs, and they held their pose for what seemed like 5 minutes to allow time for the end credits roll. It was so bizarre to see them that way, like a photograph come to life. We, the audience, gave them a standing ovation, and we were encouraged by the warm-up gal to keep clapping for what seemed like an eternity while the cast just stared ahead at us. I'm sure they must've felt like animals in a zoo exhibit.

I saw the cast members talk to Jenny McCarthy last night. It doesn't look like any of the cast has aged that much except Ann B Davis. It would've been nice to see Robert Reid there if he was still alive.

It's always nice to see the Brady kids get together, and I'm glad all 6 of them agreed to do the reunion show...

However, Jenny McCarthy was totally obnoxious...she seemed to think the show was all about her...

This is the first thing I've ever seen J McCarthy do...I had no idea she was that annoying...

I think it could have been a lot better if the host didn't think the show was about THEM, instead of about the "kids" that we all grew up watching.

Why Jenny McCarthy, of all people? That's what I can't figure out.

It would have been nice to see the Bradys take questions from the audience, instead of the scripted questions McCarthy asked.

Overall, I enjoyed the show, other than when McCarthy was talking, which was most of the time.

Jenny was way over the top. And please, Jen, cover those gross bare legs of yours.

Susan Olsen didn't look quite right to me. I don't know if she has any health concerns but I hope she's alright.

Maureen McCormick is still a doll. Little chunkier but still very pretty.

Eve Plumb looked like she was channelling Alice Ghostly.

I thought that they did a decent job outside of Jenny. Did anyone else notice when she asked each one about whether choice A or choice B was their favorite or most embarrassing whatever, that many of them chose something else altogether? Maybe they should have asked the star before they put the choices together.

Maureen must be what, about 48? She looks terrific!

Yes, MSU 1978 - I totally noticed that. That was another annoying thing about it...

I'm thinking that those Q&As could have been scripted. Did it look like they had the clips for the Brady choices all ready to go for the audience there to see, even though they weren't the choices that were given? Did the live audience see the same clips we saw on TV?

I agree that Susan Olsen didn't look quite right, and that Maureen still has that incredible face of hers. Although Eve doesn't seem to have aged as well as Maureen, I'm still glad that all of the kids made it.

Hard to believe "Marcia's been married for 20 years"!

Everyone in the cast seemed to be happy with what they are doing now, which is also nice. Too many bad things have happened to TV kids, and it's great to see all the the Bradys alive and well 30 years after going off the air (excluding all of those wonderful specials of course).

Vegas Girl, yeah, 48 sounds about right for Maureen. Incredible!!

Yes, the interview including their answers was scripted!! I wonder if they did ad lib a bit, though.

Does anyone remember seeing the Sunflower Girl episode before it was on N@N or TVLand? Was there a scene that has been cut where Peter was wearing a dress? He never wears a dress in the TVLand version, and Greg specifically tells him he doesn't have to wear the skirt part of the uniform. So I wondered about the comment they apparently had Chris make about being the first adolescent [guy] to wear a dress. Barry's book says that he wore a dress.

I have seen many versions of this episode over the years, and Peter has never worn a dress. Remember, Barry's book is full of inaccuracies and he's not above exaggeration to make his anecdotes more interesting.

It seemed as though Eve Plumb and Susan Olsen did not want to be there. You can tell they resent their years on The Brady Bunch. The rest of them seem sincerely glad to be there. I just love Ann B. Davis. She is a great comedienne. Too bad she never got her own sitcom. Too bad more time should had been given to pay tribute to Robert Reed.

Jenny McCarthy got on my nerves and that top she had on was not appropriate for the type of show that was on. I wanted to jump in the TV and tell her to shut up.

Actually, Susan Olsen has always been very cool about her Brady past. She has appeared in every single Brady interview and appeared in every Brady reunion except for the Christmas movie because she was on her honeymoon.

The hardest ones to always get were Maureen and Eve. After "A Very Brady X-mas" Maureen refused to appear in any interviews (including E True Hollywood story) or any reunions or anything that had to do with the Brady's until a few years ago. Appearing with the cast at ABC's reunion, the weakest link, and helping co-host My family is a sitcom, she seems to have finally embraced her Brady past and is cool with it now.

Eve still seems hesitant, but she'll probably come around. It's nice to see ALL the remaining cast together again.

Did you know I have never seen Love That Bob??? CBN used to air it back in the 80's but they showed it late at night so I never got to see it. I certainly want to see that show.

I do not get TV Land,so I didn't get to see Still Brady After All These Years. Hopefully, Nick at Nite(I wouldn't say never) will find it in their hearts to reshow the special again since Nick at Nite showed The Brady Bunch. Or have it put out on DVD.

Hello, everybody! Would any body happen to have or know where I can find a still picture from "Still Brady After All These Years?" It is the one from the end of the show, where they all assume their positions & recreate the infamous staircase pose. Any information would be appreciated. Also, has anybody attended any of Barry Williams shows? Does he do meet & greets afterwards? Like does he sign things and/or take pictures with you?

Thank you

That would be a good picture to see. Hopefully a link of it will be made. In the mean time, here are past ones. Found most of them except "A very brady christmas" where they also took a staircase picture with the fake Cindy.

I have to agree with most people here....Jenny McCarthy was not a wise choice to host this show. Her remark to Chris Knight ("okay Chris, now get ready for some lean meat"), was inappropriate, and offensive to Eve Plumb...when she sat down between them.

Also, there should have been a much larger section of the show dedicated to Robert Reed. To just have Florence Henderson say some nice things, and show 2 clips of him was a mistake. On the other hand, the show was produced by Sherwood Schwartz, who (as it has become commonly known) did not like Reed's "suggestions". That might of had something to do with it.

And speaking of Schwartz, his shameless plug about the upcoming reality "Brady Bunch" show was a lousy way to end the show....

Well said falc04...

I only watched the special once, that's the first time I've seen J McCarthy in anything, and I'll never watch anything she does again...she's terrible.

I wasn't sure I heard correctly when Jenny made that comment to Chris...I knew it was something about "lean" but I didn't understand it the one time I saw the show... It was very rude, and offensive to Eve, who was prettier at 15 than Jenny is now.

That was a ridiculous outfit for Jenny to wear...and man, her legs are bad (by that, I don't mean "good").

And I agree about R. Reed too...it would have been nice for each of the kids to pay a little tribute to Robert, maybe relaying a story of how he help them at some point, instead of having Florence say a few words... but yeah, Schwartz may have had something to do with slighting Reed.

I don't watch reality shows, but I guarantee I'll never watch Sherwood's idiotic reality show (if it ever comes on), simply because I thought this was no place to plug his next project. This should have been total tribute to the kids (and Florence, Robert and Ann B) who have given us so many years of enjoyment watching them grow up (over and over and over again).

Agreed, Jenny McCarthy was about the worst choice possible for host - what was she, still in utero when the show first aired? Oy.

Eve Plumb dressed as if they'd just let her know about the show at the last minute, and she'd been washing her car. Overall it was an enjoyable show, but there were no new revelations or anything. If you're a Brady fan, it was all a matter of "seen that, knew that."
