Do you turn your PC off at night or leave it running while you sleep? Just curious:)

No. It stays on all night. It does go on standby though when it's left alone for about 15 minutes. Basically a sleep mode. Cuts on after you move the mouse or touch the keyboard. We used to shut it down, but we had a problem back in the Spring where it wouldn't start up right and you would have to attempt 2 or 3 times to get it to work. Now it's fine, but we don't take any chances. We only shut it down if we have to(Windows Update, power outage or a vacation where we're gone for more than a day). So far, so good, no problems.

By the time I'm done using this thing its not even night anymore.

But when I do go to bed early, yes, I turn it off.

I turn it off, cause it's so old, it the monitor shuts it's self off, I think it has a short in it

But I'm on dialup anyways, so no point in me leaving it on all night anyways :)

My computer is a party animal. Last time it went to bed was a week ago, and before that, about 2 months.

haha Kinda sounds like mine. My AIM name usually says I've been online for about a week. LOL  It's a newer computer with lots of RAM, otherwise I'd probably shut it down at least every other night. ;)

You shouldn't do that, you could wear it out sooner than you think.

I shut it off every couple of nights. If I don't reboot every few days, it acts sluggish and weird.

I keep it on, but sometimes it turns itself off

That's what Standby is. It's like "sleep mode".

Mine's always on. I restart it occasionally, but I never shut it down.

I never go to sleep... but on the occasion I do, I leave it on. I restart it like once a week.

I leave my computer on all the time.

It's connected to cable modem so it's always running, always online.

It's always on...But this computer has separate desktops, so when I leave for the night, I log out of my desktop and then it goes into sleep mode 15-20 mins later. :D

I get my internet through Charter also. I've had Charter for a couple years now and haven't had any outages so far. Some days the internet is a little slow, but at night it moves at light speed.

It differs by area. Here in Alabama, a lot of people complain, but in other states, it is fine. We have almost daily outages(MOST days it's for 5 or 10 minutes, but every now and then we get a 1 to 2 hour outage). At night, it's great. It's only during business hours(most of the time, unless there's a bad storm or something).

I know someone whos house burnt down from leaving the computer on for too long. It's not a smart idea to always leave it on. Just turn it off when you're sleeping. It a waste of money too.

That's possible? I know somebody whose house burned down because he didn't turn his electric blanket off. :o

Anything that is electrical can burn your house down. TV's, VCR's, Christmas trees(during the holidays), Refrigerators(which stay on), Ovens etc.

But for TV's, etc. to burn down, they would have to be extremely hot... Yeah..Fridges...that can happen. I have a story about that.

I'm not going to try to figure it out when I haven't had my coffee yet... I just know it's a lot more possible for a house to burn down if you forget to turn off your electric blanket. I had one (a long time ago) and they get really hot if you don't remember to turn them off when you get up in the AM.

Oh yes. Electric blankets. I was always afraid mine would cause a fire(it would smell like smoke).

I seriously hate leaving electronics on. I don't leave VCRs, DVD players, computers, anything on. There are very few circimstances where I'll leave it on even overnight. Plus my laptop would overheat...and I'd get extremely annoyed with the fans. The fans on this things are so loud you can't hear music over them.

I usually have mine on, but when I'm going to be away from my computer for a while, then I unplug it.
