It appears I will finally be upgrading to a cable modem, so I was just curious at what type of high-speed access you lucky ones have... ;)

oh. Forgot to put T1 in the poll....

I used to have DSL, but then we moved and this area doesn't have DSL, so now I'm stuck with dial up again.

I know how you feel. When I first got a modem, it was 14.4K. I've had dial-up all my life and recently the service has gone way south.

Cable. :D I had a 56k before we moved, and we had great service, along w/ a pretty fast 56k modem...I think my modem's speed was often 53.2k...which is pretty good. :)

I'm glad to have cable...but there ARE times where my cable goes out. Once in a blue moon, my cable goes out and then I can't get on for 10 mins to a couple of hours. IMO, it's worth it. :D I'll never go back to dialup!

there are pros and cons to both DSL and cable (satellite is still too expensive to be considered as good an option yet)

check out http://www.dslreports.com/ for reports of services in your area

i use cable and have been quite happy with it (although NOT very happy at all with their parent company Time Warner)

I have cable. Outside of occasional down time, it's great. It's faster than DSL and Satellite too. Trust me... once you get it, you'll never want to go to back.

The outages BTW are Charter's fault. Whatever you do, DON'T GET THEM. We have prolonged outages too often here.

My dad keeps threatening to get us high-speed, but he never gest around to it. Whatever, I have a 56k modem and it's actually not that bad. It's not the modem I hate- just AOL.

Same here. LOL We had dial-up from the time we got our first computer, Christmas 1999 to January 2003 and I was never on for very long(because it keeps the phone line busy). I thought it was the best thing since TV was introduced though, LOL, now I look back and say how pathetic.

I *think* it's DSL. I don't know. It's high-speed internet from Comcast. It's expensive and great. It's through my cable company, so is it cable? Someone want to tell me what I have please, lol.

Sounds like you have cable. I *think* most of the time, DSL service is from telephone companies. Ours was anyway.

I had diaup from sometime in early 1997 to September 2003. Never again.

Almost certainly cable. The only companies that offer cable internet are, well, cable companies. LOL

DSL would be through someone like Yahoo or Bellsouth.

3Mbps/256Kbps Cable.

Our ISP/Cable Co (Mediacom) is testing 5Mbps/512Kbps in certain parts of Iowa now. Why it's Iowa, I'll never know.

Of course, in a month, I'll be on WKU's system. Joy! No more Internet bill.

I was on Dialup for a total of a year and a half (December 2000 - May 2001; All of 2003). *shudders*. I hate, HATE, HATE dialup. And having to go BACK to dialup in 03 was REALLY bad. Imagine having approx 1% of the downloading capacity you had before (Average download speed at the time (End of 2002) was 300K/Sec on Cable, and 3/K Sec at the start of 2003 on Dialup.

Bad memories

Really? Hmmm.... I've thought about Mediacom since Qwest won't get off their asses and put DSL here.

So do you like Mediacom's service overall?

For the most part. Some of the connections tend to be a little unstable at times, but by and large, it's not bad. Their tech support isn't the best in the world, but who's is.

 That's true. The people at Qwest didn't even know if we had DSL access or not! One said yes, one said no, one said no, then changed his mind and said yes.
