View Full Version : Who else is really excited for "I Love The 90's"?
TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-06-2004, 10:57 PM I can't wait until next week. I'm going to watch it every night. Finally a decade where I can actually remember mostly everything from it! I'm especially excited about 1997 (that's Thursday night!). I hope they eventually release all the "I Love...." series on DVD. I love all the commentary, especially Michael Ian Black and Hal Sparks!
If this thread needs to be moved to another board, please do so. I had no ida where to post this but on this board.
david&maddie4ever 07-06-2004, 11:00 PM OMG, I can't wait. That show is the best...and Hal Sparks rocks.
Kay Scarpetta 07-06-2004, 11:01 PM I'm excited for around '90-'94, the 'Grunge era'. Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-06-2004, 11:02 PM I also like Mo Rocca. I never heard of him, until these series started but his comments are always so funny, too!

Yeah, he's always so serious. It cracks me up. :p
Kazza 07-06-2004, 11:05 PM I love those series! I can relate to a lot of the 80's era since I was born in the mid 70's and watched the 70's to learn about what I'd missed. Can't wait!!

erm are they gonna talk about metal coming into mainstream.. otherwise no because the 90's sucked.
Skywalker 07-06-2004, 11:10 PM The 90's sucked.
PZelda 07-06-2004, 11:13 PM Oh god, the pull on me is soooo strong...I don't want to watch 1999...that year sucked. The Columbine shooting, my starting 9th grade that fall, etc...I HATED the end of 1999. I was SOOOOO happy when 2000 rolled around.
I'm probably going to give in and watch the whole thing anyway.  I miss 1990, 1991 and 1992 a lot...so I'll definitely be watching that. 1990 was definitely my fave year. :D

YEAH.
That'll be the best part of the show. I'm sure I'll see a few other things that were cool. I'm not extremely excited to watch though... and the late 90s are gonna suck.

I bet anything they'll talk about Metallica ... that'll be a highlight too. If they'd skip talking about metal going mainstream, I'd write to VH1 and tell them what even bigger idiots they've become. :grr:

I graduated High School in 1993, so I love that year ;) :D
vienna waits 07-07-2004, 02:00 AM I have an awful memory. I can hardly remember anything I did really in the 90s and I spent a good deal of my childhood then (ages 4 -13). I must have had a really boring life because I can't even think of one year that was better than the rest. It's all one big blur to me...
I'm still excited to see the show though.
Cactus Jack 07-07-2004, 08:32 AM Im REALLY excited/ Im hoping that its AWESOME! I bet it will be since the 80s ones and the 70s one were HILARIOUS , I bet this will be!
I cant wait to see Hal, Micheal and Mo again. And I hope Rich Eisen's on there too
Just look at my av!:D
roseannefan4ever14 07-07-2004, 03:39 PM I'm kind of excited about "I Love the 90's" its just that in 1994-1996 was a hard year for me going through high school and all but I did like 1998 because thats when I went to college.

Stephanie: I am not and I'm telling you said that.
The Cosby Show:
Theo: Dad, Denise is hogging the bathroom!
Cliff: Well, use the one downstairs.
Theo:The small one? That's for guests!
Cliff: Well, pretend you don't live here!
Roseanne:
[Having just met their new neighbor, Kathy Bowman]
Jackie: Maybe she was a little uptight.
Roseanne: A LITTLE uptight? Hey, man you couldn't drag a needle out of her butt with a tractor.

So did the 70's and 80's...HOWEVER, 1999 was just five years ago...Whereas 1989 was 15 years ago...It's too soon to be doing something like "I Love the 90's" because '99 was barely a half-decade ago.

TheGreatPretender 07-07-2004, 08:29 PM anyone else think that the 90s were to current? a good example would be most of the TV shows that started then are still around today. i think they should wait until the end of the 2000s to do an i love the 90s. or it would be cool to do an early 90s like 90-94. but i still cant wait to see it!

There really aren't that many shows left that started in the 90's. Let's see there's Everybody Loves Raymond, The King of Queens, and a few others, but most are gone.
I think the end of the 2000s would be too late. :(

TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-07-2004, 09:15 PM When I watched the 80's, 70's series I really only watched it for the people's comments. Just because what they said about the stuff was so hilarious! A lot of the stuff I couldn't even remember. But now I'm sure the stuff they say will be just as hilarious AND I will remember the stuff. If they just showed clips of old shows/movies/commercials or whatever from that decade and had NO no one giving comments the show would be crap!
It's all about the commentary. That's why I watch it!
dandelion wine 07-08-2004, 02:00 AM Basically, I still feel that it's way too early for them to be doing an I Love the 90s when it's only 2004. But now those promos are all over the place and they're... drawing me in. I graduated in 1993 so I guess if I do wind up watching, 1990 - 1994 will be the ones for me to see. After that, I don't have much interest.

Will & Grace.
Let's see..The Simpsons started in 1989 and that's still going strong today. :D
robyrob 07-08-2004, 07:18 AM too soon, but i'll watch - at least some of the commentators wont be so obviously lying about remembering any of this stuff

while there were a few metal bands who had success in the 90's, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Megadeth.... for the most part, metal coming into the mainstream was more 1980's. Especially 1987-1989. When Nirvana and the grunge invasion came along in late 91, it spelled the end of the party for most of the metal bands who were popular at the time, only a handful like Metallica, GNR, Megadeth and Ozzy maintained a successful career after then (and Motley Crue did score two top 10 albums afterwards but neither sold what their 80's albums did)

exactly, why should we get nostalgic for 1999, when many of the popular artists then (Britney, Eminem, Justin [N'Sync], Usher, Christina) haven't exactly gone away yet.
I think 95 or 96 should be the cutoff... too soon to be nostalgic for anything since.

what the? that was very uncalled for, Miss Vicki is one of the nicest posters on all of Sitcoms Online, so there was no need to get that way with her. When you watch shows like I Love The 70's and I Love The 80's, the nostalgia just isn't quite as high for "I Love 99" when people who are 14 can commentate on
Sorry, it is no quite long ago enough, when you watch "I Love 83" with a niece or nephew who wasn't born then, they can laugh at "you mean people wore leg-warmers?", but yet even THEY can remember 1999.
In order to be nostalgic, a lot of time has to have passed and everything old is new again. Like I said in my last post, not enough time has passed when most of the popular singers from 99 are still popular today, it's not like the 70's or 80's where only a few are still around. Whereas even if you use 1994, a lot of the things then are new again.

they could just do "I Love 1990-1994", and then do 95-99 at a later time. The late 90's are still very recent in a lot of peoples minds. How are we supposed to get mistyeyed nostalgic over the "good ol' days" where Britney, Eminem, Christina, Justin Timberlake and Usher ruled when those artists are still making hits and have never gone away... and how are we supposed to be "they don't make em like this anymore" over Will & Grace, King Of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond when those shows are all still in production?
Whereas at least with a lot of the stuff from the first half of the 90's, it's been awhile since we've seen some of those shows, and a lot of the artists who were big hitmakers at the time are now all but forgotten.
Polniaczek033 07-11-2004, 03:52 PM i am. i liked the '80s and '70s ones since i knew a few things and stuff, but i was born and grew up in the '90s so i know about almost all of the stuff.. i can't wait.
*MIBabe03* 07-12-2004, 12:47 PM I am really excited about it. I was born in 1985, so it'll be nice to recap a decade that I can remember for the most part. They'll have too, there's alot of things they didn't cover. They didn't even mention Mariah Carey coming into fame in 1990, and lots more

I don't think they mentioned Home Improvement, either....I wasn't paying attention yesterday when they did 1990-91...HI debuted in 1991. :D

*MIBabe03* 07-14-2004, 11:33 PM Well considering that they have forgotten a few things, like Home Improvement and Home Alone, maybe they will do a I Love the 90s: Strikes back. I forgot but wasn't the Macerana in 1995? If it was than they forgot to cover that too. I remember that dance. It was great, nobody knew the words and would maybe hum along until they got to the " Hey Macerana" part.
JRfan 07-14-2004, 11:43 PM I know! but Melrose Place came out in 1992 but they didnt cover it until 1994 when it got big so who knows

PZelda 07-15-2004, 10:44 AM I don't know why I'm taping them because I haven't watched ILT90's since they showed 1990 and 1991 on Monday. I saw a little of 1992 & 1993 on Tuesday, but that was it. I think it's stupid, it sucks and everybody on it is obnoxious. Not to mention- the majority of them are B-listers. BARF!
F*ck the 90's, the 80's were better! I find it laughable how everybody's been buying into the retro fad. I've adored the 80's since 1997, and that hasn't changed. Now, all of a sudden, everybody else likes the 80's, and now the 90's. Get real.
Moondance 07-15-2004, 03:21 PM I wonder if they'll mention Cheers ending in 1993 and Frasier beginning that same year - have 1993 been aired and if so, any hints cause i haven't seen it yet!

Yeah. I think they did that because they wanted to hit the show right in between Diane and Rebecca so they could cover both.

I hope that was their reasoning. Because then at least there was a reason.

exactly, not every show is like Ally McBeal and peaks it's first season out
I missed 92-93.... did they have Seinfeld or Simpsons yet? Those are two of the most definitive 90's series and I didn't see it on either
Dean Winchester 07-16-2004, 06:09 PM what I found especially gross was Chris Booker (Jennifer Lopez's brother-in-law) going on and on and on about how Hanson sucked and were talentless..... they have more musical talent than his sister-in-law will EVER have, I wonder what he would've said if somebody pointed out that they write their songs and play instruments and actually have decent singing voices, something Miss Lopez doesn't of any three, lol
barwars 07-16-2004, 06:14 PM So far no mention of Frasier, Seinfeld, or The Simpsons.
3 of the biggest shows of the decade -- and nothing yet.
"I Love the 90s" sucks.
Central Perk 07-16-2004, 06:25 PM I Love the 90's isn't as good as I love the 70s and 80s, but it's still enjoyable imo. 90 and 91 weren't that great, but the others have been better. It's also somewhat difficult to fit in all the things that we want to see, so maybe there will be an I love the 90's: Strikes Back. I think one of the main reasons why I'm not enjoying I love the 90s is because Michael Ian Black is getting way too much airtime, he was better in smaller doses. I Love the 80's: Strikes Back will always be my favorite.

If you asked most people to name a 90's series, any of those 4 series would be among the first people would name.

I went to VH1's website.... and saw it, so it will definately be mentioned.
I think in 95.
It said something like "In this year we didnt get one new friend, but 6"

VH1's website was very off. Not a mention of Friends in 1995.
They also said "we were introduced to a vampire slayer named Buffy" for 1997, yet nothing was said at all about Buffy for 97

I agree. I don't even think he's that funny. 80's strikes back was my favorite too. It seemed there were alot more people commenting in that one and it was a lot funnier.
barwars 07-16-2004, 06:55 PM There will never be an "I Love The 90s: Strikes Back"
there MAY be an "I Love The 90s: Something Catchy"
but not "Strikes Back"
Because "Strikes Back" was an obvious reference to the first Star Wars of the the 80s -- The Empire Strikes Back
*MIBabe03* 07-16-2004, 07:12 PM I am a little bit disappointed. They haven't even mentioned ER! They forgot Home Alone, and they didn't mention pogs either. Pogs were freaking huge.

how could they discuss 1991 with no T2? how about 1994 without The Lion King? They didn't even discuss Titanic for 1997!! (tho it could be in the 1998 segment coming on soon... since Titanic/Celine mania was in 98)

* I cannot stand Jay and Silent Bob, Jerry Springer's Final Words... I think that's it. I enjoy the hotties and the dance songs and stuff.
* Two words - STRIKES BACK (or something to that effect, right?)

Boy Meets World: ''We'll return to The Young and the Restless right after this word from Feeny, and here is the word... Shut Up!'' (Feeny to class)
Full House:
Kimmy: [talking to D.J] Your sister is such a tattle-tale.

I agree! "I Love the 60s" would be awesome, but they would NEED older people. Knowing VH1, that wouldn't happen. They always need too many young people, even when it's not appropriate, like "I Love The 70s." And "I Love the 60s" is probably going too far back for them.
