Okay, this is a technical problem and I need someone's help.

I have a Canon Power Shot A80 digital camera, so if you have that too, you might have an easier time reading this.

Well, whenever I press the "on" button now, it seems like it's locked. The screen just says "Canon" for about 5 seconds and then it goes to a black screen that has "M18" in the bottom left in small white letters.

I looked in the manual, but didn't see anything that could've helped. I think it's the lens that are locked because they won't go back in, even when i turn it off.

Anyone have any knowledge of this? Thanks.

I'm gonna get a digital camera on Monday, and I'll learn about how to use it.
If I'm getting the kind you got, I can try to help your camera problem.

I don't know if this is going to be in or even near the realm of what you speak of, but I have a video camera(not Canon) that does something like that. It will come on but then goes to a blue screen and then shows a little number on the screen which was an error number.
Regardless of whether yours is an error number or not, have you checked it out online like at the Canon website? Or sometimes you can even do a search by just putting in the "M18" that comes up on the screen along with what kind of camera it is, and it might come up with something as someone else might have had the same problem.

Hope this helps and Good luck!

i have the same exact camera...i have never ran into a problem like that. try calling their 1800 number and see if they know.
if your getting that error message, i would suspect it has something to do with you compact flash card...but since you said the lens dont go back in, it has to be some sort of mechanical problem.

Well something like that happened to my camera. I have a Sony Cybershot, but the screen kept flashing some weird number and i called the company and they didn't know what it was so I sent it in to get fixed and the lens was cracked or something...I don't know. Try calling the manuafcturer.
