I never saw the point of this episode. That's like Archie Meets Carroll or George Meets Sherman. You can tell by the Fred Meets Redd Episode that they were running ideas by 1977.

I have a vague memory of watching that either in its original airing or in a rerun in the late 70s. It is a stupid plot. It's like Moesha meeting Brandy.

I liked this episode for one reason. At the time I first saw it I was fairly young and watch Sanford all the time. I had no clue how different the two were. It was really interesting to me to see that a lot more of Fred Sanford was actual acting than I originally thought. For example, I thought that walk he had was real, yet from what I remember Redd actually didn't walk like that. I have to watch that episode again as it has been a while. I last saw it a few years ago, but first saw it in the early 80s or late 70s maybe when I was around 8 - 10 years old.

Anyway, thats my thoughts.

I appreciate this post. I guess i would have to watch this episode again to see. Redd was a good actor in the role of Fred. When I watched the show in the 70s I thought he was as old as Fred. Still I think the plot itself is a bit lame. Is this in year 5 or year 6?

That episode was in season 6

I seldom watch episodes from the seasons after Fred returned. His return seemed to mark the end of Sanford and Son's "Golden Years". This episode, Fred's Church, the Earthquake, The Japanese Restaurant, the entire Sanford Arms debacle, all came after Fred's return and the show was just never the same with a few exceptions. To answer the original question, I never saw the point in Fred Meets Redd.

The entire 6th season pretty much stunk. Lamont's romance with Janet. That annoying "YEASSS" man in too many episodes, and that just plain awful "Hawaiian Connection" 3 parter were just examples of how bad it was.

Agreed - I won't' even watch the "Hawaiian Connection" anymore. There was basically *nothing* funny in there at all.

The only part of the "Hawaiian Connection" that was remotely funny was the bit with Fred and the lady fighting over the airplane restroom.

My memories of year 6 are very vague. I remember watching the Hawaii episodes when they first aired in 1976 on Thurs night and I liked them (I was 9 at the time), but I'd have to watch the show regularly now to compare year 6 to years 1-5.

I came across a 1976 Jet magazine recently that had a bald headed Redd Foxx on the cover (he had a swinger's chain around his neck, tinted glasses and a silk shirt on), I can't remember if Demond Wilson was also on the cover (I think he was) but the headline said something like, "Sanford and Son prepares for its last season". So I guess it was common knowledge that the show was going to end.

I remember hearing something in the show about a movie that Redd was in. I will have to look and see if the movie was even made or released. You all know how they try to tie in a movie with a TV show that the actor or actress was in.

I agree.

It is blatantly obvious that they had no ideas left and that this was the beginning of the end.
