View Full Version : "Symphony in Knocked Flat"
"fun"
this one starts out good with dave and maddie talking. the tempatations appear and sing.
dave and maddie make a bet on which can take the other out and enjoy it the most. dave gets two hot symphony tickets, not together. the funny part is when dave's seat, yards away, and he tries to communicate with maddie. she ignores him but the people between them watch them intently.
after evading two sets of FBI oficers, our heroes embark upon finding out what is ooging on, stealing a car, getting invovled in an international assassination attempt, and this is on maddie's night of "fun" for david. some date.
david takes the place of a boxer in his bout against a russian fighter. dave is knocked out. maddie punches the russian out and the assassination attempt is foiled.
don king guest starred. his dialog was the best part of this one for me. great episode.
rating: 8
CindyK 06-27-2004, 10:40 PM Now to me, this is one funny funny episode. The whole darn thing is just hilarious... from the disaster at the symphony:
M: Oh David!!! Box seats!
to the search of Maddie's drawers for the purse she used the night before:
D: "I gotta say, so far this has been a real letdown"
D: (holding up a black teddy) "ohhhh spoke too soon....for future reference, I really like this."
M: (snatching it away) "Good then I will let you borrow it sometime."
to the phone booth fiasco
(M: "They're stealing our stolen car!!")
to the boxing match....
D: "There are four o's in boogaloo."
I laughed and laughed through out this one.
Tazmania 06-28-2004, 08:32 AM  Now did you see the look on M's face in the limo??
That's saying it ALL!!!
greetz Taz:wave:
i liked it when don king said he was doing his part of bringing peace to the world, through fighting.
oh, and "don't look like no boogaloo to me".
david&maddie4ever 06-28-2004, 07:29 PM This was a great episode. I loved the boxing match...that was great stuff.

kismet 07-15-2004, 08:16 PM I loved this episode.
The rose scene just makes me melt. Cybill and Bruce are so subtle in their flirtations - and then she runs the rose down her chin.
A tux, a limo, a beautiful gown, a rose, and two people in love -- you can't ask for anything more.

I know...Sam was such a great character. I mean, he was incredibly sweet, totally gorgeous, and a complete gentleman. To add "astronaut" to his resumé is just too much!
He had it all, but I still hated him. ohno: He got in the way of Davey's happiness, and we can't have that, now can we? :smash:
Tazmania 07-18-2004, 03:11 PM exactement!
About Symphony in Knocked Flat, loved the romance, loved the comedy when the date started to go all wrong, loved the g-man and g-woman scene, loved "For future reference, I really like this." "Fine, you can borrow it any time!" But did anybody else think the boxing went on a little toooooo long?

You should read my transcript of the episode. I made it for my non-english-speaker friends hehehehe. And as I was doing the transcrit and translation I was adding my own comments. And I was like "And here comes Mr. Perfect  and... bla, bla, bla..." hehehe I did hated him for interfering in their relationship, but he still is sooo perfect and handsome... That, we can´t help it.
I
was at the same time laughing and hating him when he goes to Dave's place and says these things to him... "The way I see it, the situation is... We have something in common, someone in common. Are you following me so far?" grrrrrrr:mad: He's not an idiot you... you... grrrr  And then "See, she´s really confused. And it's kinda funny cause I don't think there is anything to be confused about. I mean, look at you, you're a mess. Look at the way you live, look at this place..." hahahaha I was furious  but at the same time... he is right! And I know that... Dave IS a mess, there's nothing we can do about it, but then that is why we love him, isn't it?
CindyK 07-20-2004, 10:10 AM I guess I am going to stir the pot here a bit. I do not think Sam Crawford is Mr. Perfect... I think on the surface...he appears that way...but he has issues of control, issues of conflict. He does as Maddie say "waltz in there and try to stake his claim like she was a piece of real estate." I think it is way out of line for him to go over to David's house and meddle in David's relationship with Maddie... I also think he tries to control Maddie and her thoughts and actions.... and he more so than David tries to force her to choose between the two of them.
He resents Maddie and David's relationship--but I ask you where has he been for the past few years while Maddie was struggling. David has helped Maddie get back on her feet and become independent. Sam wants to return and assert his dominion over her and her situation and make her dependent on him.
Who is he to say what is best for Maddie. Why can't Maddie make that decision for herself...confused or not, we know she can make definite decisions and assert her own will.
I think that Sam is to be surface pretty, surface perfect...but at the core maybe not have as much real substance. David may appear to be a mess and out of control...but he brings real depth, passion and joy to Maddie's life. David is actually what is best for Maddie... and Maddie knows it in her heart. That is why she is so conflicted between her brain and logic telling her that Sam should be what she wants, but her heart and soul is telling her its David she wants.
Dutchie 07-20-2004, 11:21 AM yeah!
I was thinking about the same thing last night.
I also don't think Sam is Mr. Perfect.
1. He just came back in Maddie her live and clames her already.
2. He knows how David feels about Maddie and sees that as a thread for Maddie and his "Relationship".
3. He must know that Maddie has feelings for David, come on, it's obvious!
4. He can't sing.
5. He has hair.
You see what I mean:p
Okay, so maybe the green women in space weren't good enough for him, but that doesn't mean he can take Maddie away from David!

Tazmania 07-20-2004, 01:40 PM Oh yeah, heart and mind always in conflict!
But you should always do what your heart tells you and that's exactly what Maddie did.
She knows very well that David makes her do things she never did before and allthough she says she is not that type of woman she actually loves it!
Running around at night solving cases, laughing at his jokes and he! why do you think she ran off to David's when Perfect Sammy asked her to marry him?? Because whenever she panics David will rescue her from the situation (David, do something!!!).
Except this time he backed off a little letting her go through it all by herself because he could not give her the answer, but instead they ran around town the whole night solving a case of an unfaithful guy which brought them back to the essence of their relationship. It's hard but FUN.
I think Sam was right once when he told Maddie: " I 'm not saying you don't want to be married, I'm just saying that maybe it's not to me".
I always thought he was a smart guy!

The rose/tux/gown scene made up for the too long boxing scene. Whenever I want to feel good, I re-watch Maddie and David standing in her doorway -- all gorgeous and handsome -- flirtatious and seductive. I just love it.:happyface

Mmm... let's stir the pot a little bit more!!!! hehehe No, seriously... I agree with some things, but others... hummm
Let's see... I can't really say if Sam is trying to control Maddie, but because of a simple reason: I haven't seen the episodes prior to "I am curious... Maddie", so I'm sure missing a lot of important details about his personality and the way he treats her. It IS an overreaction to go to David's place, but then... I kinda think he has the right to know what is going on between HIS girlfriend and his partner. But going to Dave's was going too far, I agree with that. But as I said, I also think he deserves an explanation, because Maddie is the woman he has just asked to marry him. At least in that episode, I don't see him as "meddeling" in their relationship, but simply asking for answers that he deserves.
About this part: "but I ask you where has he been for the past few years while Maddie was struggling. David has helped Maddie get back on her feet and become independent" I don't have anything to say about it, I agree with that. About Sam trying to make Maddie dependant on him, I told you before, I need to watch the prior episodes.
I also agree that he is nobody to say what's best for Maddie and I agree with what you say about David: "David may appear to be a mess and out of control...but he brings real depth, passion and joy to Maddie's life." Yeah, that's definitly true. But... (there's always a "but", huh? hahaha) mmm... about David being the best option for Maddie and Maddie knowing that... uhmmm... I don't know... I mean, don't kick me for what I'm gonna say, but I don't know if she really thinks or feels that way...
The way I see it (as Sam would say, hehe), Maddie is never completely happy. Not with Sam, nor with David. When she was with Sam, which in her opinion is the perfect guy for her, she wasn't happy. But then, that has an explanation, and is that at that moment she was already in love with Dave. But then, when they're finally together... she's not happy either. Because she feels that there is no way that the two of them can make that relationship work. Yes, they love each other, but they're so different, she can't imagine a future together, a life... You know, being David's wife, having children with him...
And the prove is they don't really get together in the end (awful, terrible, disgusting end, but that's another story). I'm not saying this is what I think, but what Maddie thinks. Because my opinion is that they indeed could have made that wonderful relationship work.

Hey Taz!!! I totally agree with what you say there... It is like that, she ALWAYS ends up doing every stupid thing that comes to Dave's mind!!! He always convinces her!!!! hahaha Mmmm... and we know how... ;) :D hehehe Yeah, Dave, you really know how to talk to her into doing things... (He would probably answer me "well, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do") hehehe
Kisses! :D  Oh! And let me know if you're going to be at BW chat tonight, ok?
Tazmania 07-21-2004, 05:02 PM Little late for the chat Carina but I'll try again tomorrow
marla 11-14-2004, 12:28 AM while i was waiting for my date and 2 other couples to show up at my place (so we could all go out) i put this episode in. everybody showed up and we all ended up ordering pizza and chinese and staying in and watched some moonlighting. moolighting is also a great 'date' show.
the men loved the boxing part and the women loved the fine date part.
maddie and david actually went out on a real date. i mean, david asked her out and maddie accepted!
when maddie was telling david off about the 'fine' date, david actually had the nerve to suggest that they do their fun date-by getting dry heaves at the zero club. and he also complained that he hadn't even gotten a quick feel at the door the night before! didn't i say this was like real life. grrrr....
maddie and david calling the terrorism hotline-and a recorded tape answering-talk about group laughter!
david talking about the male and female FBI agents. g-man and g-woman-probably have a dog named g-spot. more group laughter.
i loved it when maddie asked don king to stop the fight because david would kill the russian fighter. don king's response "i admire you confidence, but your boy has to hit him first"
more real life- maddie experience of going out with successful men every 6 or 7 weeks- and the successful men showing up and saying 'lets see what happens'and david actually said that maybe maddie wasn't any fun! you probably don't have to think long to know who's side i'm on in this one.
all the men said that david was in love with maddie. the pleasure in his eyes when he gave her the rose.
oh, and i love this episode. it pushed lot of my buttons.
I loved this episode.
The rose scene just makes me melt. Cybill and Bruce are so subtle in their flirtations - and then she runs the rose down her chin.
A tux, a limo, a beautiful gown, a rose, and two people in love -- you can't ask for anything more.
This scene is enough to make anyone melt, wow
And I love how this is balanced out by the boxing at the end when David and Maddie look anything but the glamorous couple
gypsygem81 02-04-2005, 07:09 PM The 'anybody got any raw meat?' line was one of my favourite parts!
Love Gem
MulberryGal 02-14-2005, 11:19 AM I love this episode!!
The way Maddie is SO smitten with David at the door, flirting all over the place, she's almost girlish! I love the way she's spent so much time getting ready and looks nervous when the doorbell rings...
I love the scene in the limo, the way Maddie looks at him...WOW
I also love David's line about there being a jacuzzi in the back "just in case we feel dirty later.."
Also love the bit where after David is knocked out, Maddie says "oh baby.." Cute!
Mul
CindyK 02-14-2005, 11:41 AM I have always loved the funny stuff in Maddie's bedroom as they search for the handbag. That is just so adorably cute. And then the silly stuff concerning the stolen car. It is hilarious that Maddie goes flying out of that car when David speculates there might be a bomb...and how non-chalant David is about it as he flips open the trunk. And the phone booth scene is just hysterical. "They're stealing our stolen car!"
Tazmania 02-14-2005, 02:41 PM It's a perfect epi for Valentine!
Romance, romance....
Dutchie 02-14-2005, 02:45 PM TAZ! You took those words right out of my mouth! Funny, I never felt a thing, you're GOOD! :D
Tazmania 02-14-2005, 02:49 PM *cy* You watch too much Addison, Stepho!!

Dutchie 02-14-2005, 02:56 PM Well, yeah, why else do you think I'm here? :p
Tazmania 02-14-2005, 05:52 PM AHA! And I wondered all this time why nobody here talked about the Muppet Show!!
:p
