Did anyone ever notice watching this show. That when one of the characters would go on some sort of diatribe about rights, dignity, racism whatever. (Usually during a powerful dramatic scene) There would always be this one solo audience member screaming "RIGHT OOOON"!!! Clear as a bell.??? I just want to know if I am the only one who notices it... I always get a chuckle out of it. As if this guy felt so emotional he jumped from his chair. It was in at least several episodes in the first two seasons.

That, of course, is the old "call-and-response", common in the Black community, originating in the prayer meetings during slavery, and ever present in all forms of public gatherings, including, but not limited to, concerts (both musical and comedy), speeches, commencement exercises, kung-fu movies, and, yes, the taping of sitcoms with a predominatly African-American cast and/or theme. If Florida, James or Michael made a statement that the audience knew was gospel (in the Black sense, of course), you can expect "right on", "amen" or even "WE-E-LLL" to be uttered.
That's just how we do it.;)

Did any notice how the audience members would STUMP their feet very loud when something funny happened during the early years of Good Times? Only examples i can think of
When James told Mad Dog-"mad dog if you don;t get your hand out my wife's face i'm going to slap a muzzle on you"
It was in the "Florida and Carl" episode. that moment where Florida dumps the water on Carl's head, someone in the audience shouted clear as a bell "NO SHE IS NOT...!" Now that's what I call interacting with a TV show.
