View Full Version : "Funeral for a Door Nail"
"not now, we're fighting"
a woman fakes her death to get out of a marriage. the husband is so grief stricken, he gets someone to kill him. he changes his mind, but dies anyway. she is alive and confronts dave and maddie about why she faked her death. here, they figured out her husbands lawyer was going to get the inheritance. they go after him.
a great scene where during the chase, dave and the lawyer have a broom fight to the "STAR WARS" theme.
granville van dusen guest stars as the crooked lawyer. i enjoyed his work on "the young and the restless" years later. but he was good here, as was this episode. one of the best, so far.
rating: 7
CindyK 06-26-2004, 09:57 PM My two favorite parts of this episode are the opening discussion about Maddie wanting David to take her to the family wedding and he is delighted! And the scenes in the adult bookstore.... that whole sequence is just a hoot!!
M: "What do they do in there?"
D: "And what pray tell makes you think I would know?"
M gives him a look that says, yeah, right.
D: "Ok, well then what pray tell makes you think I would tell you...."
Later.....
M: "What are you doing?"
D: "Trying to make sure we don't run out of quarters!"
yep. was a good scene. loved maddie's face as the woman undressed before her. priceless.
david&maddie4ever 06-27-2004, 10:05 PM The only part about this one that I remember is the adult bookstore scene, which was just great.

Oh, was this the one where they catch the criminal by spraying him with the hose? I loved this episode! :D
Dutchie 07-17-2004, 10:03 AM I watched this episode this morning, I had tears in my eyes from laughing about that first scene with David and Maddie. Now I have tears in my eyes again because I saw those pictures and thought back about the scene LMAO!!! I love this episode!!
David: "One for the money, two for the gliss, three to get ready, now let's see some..."
Maddie: "David!"
David: "Something, let's see something."
LMAO:rotflmao: !!!
greets Steph
MulberryGal 10-27-2004, 03:47 AM I really loved this episode especially when David says "Don't blame me, I don't write this stuff!!" :D
For some reason, my Dad assumed the episode had finished, so I don't have the final chase scene on tape.... Argh!!!!
Thanks for posting the pics Carina, otherwise I'd never know what happened with the end....
Mul

marla 11-06-2004, 02:12 AM i loved this episode. the way it was written was wonderful.
when maddie was asking david to be her date at her cousins wedding, david couldn't believe it. and when he found out that the reason she was asking him to be her date was because her NSM (Nice Safe Man) date had cancelled- david decided to have fun.
david is nice and he is safe, but not the way maddie means. and when he offered to be nice and safe for $1,200 maddie was shocked. i loved this. it showed david's playfulness and i personally would have dropped dead from shock at having to pay a man for anything. he should be thrilled to just be with me! so i loved the way maddie reacted.
david could have been sleezy at the adult bookstore, but the way the writers wrote this just made him funny. by having david go up to a true sleezy guy at the bookstore, look at the magazine the guy was reading and tell the man to 'discontine if a rash develops' made david 'clean' enough for his jokes. great writing.
i loved the way david was disappointed that he and maddie had missed an 'anything can happen weekend'.
and i loved the way maddie slammed david against the door when david made a pass at the wife.
these two are wonderful friends.
This will probably be unpopular, but I didn't like the opening where Maddie can't find David and he's right behind her. Their movements looked phony to me like they were just doing a 'bit'. (Like when Maddie scratches her head and then shrugs.) I cringe a little until that's over. The conversation about him being too 'delighted' to take her to the wedding is priceless!
CindyK 11-06-2004, 11:52 AM Oh Cybr that was a parody from a classic comic scene....the Marx Brothers did this really well. It was supposed to be exaggerated to resemble that scene in Duck Soup where Harpo mimics every move Grouch makes. This is such a classic comedy moment that I Love Lucy did a similar scene....and I believe the 3 Stooges did too.
I liked it and thought it was very well done. It is not as easy as it looks.
That may be why it looked like a 'bit' to me. I remember the Lucy and Harpo thing and that was very well done. I guess it just didn't seem like David and Maddie to me although I loved this episode! The scene I liked better was in Twas the Episode Before Christmas where they both go to the phone and call the police simultaneously. That seemed more in character to me. Really funny!
marla 11-06-2004, 01:58 PM i agree with CyBr on this.
it wasn't fluid physical comedy. therefore it wasn't funny. i'm spoiled by the marx bros.

Having never seen the thing they were parodying it was lost on me and I didn't like it either :(
The rest of the episode I love :D The conversation about the wedding is sooo funny, Maddie's face at the adult bookstore and the fight scene with the broom and mop  Fantastic stuff
Dutchie 01-06-2005, 06:04 PM What would have happened if they DID went to that wedding?
got any ideas?
If they had gone I am sure that Maddie would have been uptight and worried about David doing something to embarass her and that would take away any potential for romance but introduce lots for comedy
SweetCakes 01-12-2005, 02:15 PM I liked this episode a lot. It was a while ago that I saw it, but I remember enjoying it.
The bit that I remember the best was the argument at the beginning:
"Not now, we're fighting."
"Get the hell outta ... hello."
I love the way they both put on plastic smiles when they see the guy at the door. :D
And I love Agnes' expression when she opened the door the second time, her face all scrumpled up because she knew that she would be unpopular for interrupting them.
