View Full Version : Nick-at-Nite sucks!
Kristina 11-24-2001, 01:00 AM N@N blows! They have room to play FOL, but NOOOOOOOOOO! It seems every time I turn the TV on N@N it is always Cheers, I swear! They play the show like 4 or 5 times a night! The show really does suck @$$ lol! The only good show they play is Three's Company. They got rid of some many shows just to play Cheers including FOL, Gilligan's Island, Laverne and Shirley, and Diff'rent Strokes!

Beruche 11-24-2001, 02:35 AM Its not called nick at nite anymore now its called "The Cheers Network" all Cheers all the time!I also agree that nick at nite is terrible and that the only good show is Three's Company but even thats on late so I can't watch but of course nick at nite can't fit in any of those shows because its not nick at nite anymore it "The Cheers Network" they are obssessed with Cheers and I don't care anymore because the only thing I watch is family ties (Followed by Cheers)
DarleneIllyria 11-24-2001, 03:09 AM The only thing I watch on The Cheers Network is "All in the Family". I bet you by next month that will be gone. They really need to get somebody to run that station that knows how to run it. I apologize to all the Cheers fans, but it just sucks in my opinion. It sure as hell don't help matters any that it is on all night long it seems! Just a rant....

Well AMEN to that rant! N@N did away with all the true 'classic' shows and has now put on one that really isn't even a classic. It's not old enough to be a TV hit!
Whoever did their scheduling a year or so ago should be re-hired, because N@N used to be one of the best networks on TV. It had all the classic TV hits, and it played them all in a decent timeslot, and not too often! Now it just bites. They reair the same two shows over and over until midnight, where they show half way decent shows only once! Those nitwits!
Hopefully, "Cheers" along with "Family Ties" will be burned out soon and N@N will plummet until they buy and air some TRUE Classic TV Hits. Until that time I will not be watching them! I will stick with TV Land where at least 3 decent shows air.
Just needed to let off some steam!
...Back to my hole...

I'm going to shut up because if I keep going like this I'm going to say something really bad.

Montana Ponine 11-24-2001, 02:15 PM Goshesness i know, nick at nite is driving me crazy!! they took off all their good shows, they show TC at 2 in the morning, and now it seems like all they show is Cheers!! I really don't like cheers, the only good thing about that show is the theme song. they show it waayyy too much! I think they desperately need a new boss.

Yeah! They're doing the same thing to Diff'rent Strokes and Family Ties!
FIRST: They have a huge marathon to 'welcome' the show to the network.
SECOND: They air two eps a night usually at 9.
THIRD: They move the two eps to 11 at night.
FOURTH: They then only air one ep at 4:30 in the morning. FIFTH: TVLand does a humungo Fandemonium weekend. SIXTH: The shows are never heard from again! (until holidays when they shoe 'themed' shows -ie Holloween,XMAS, Thanksgiving.)
N@N is toying with the viewers' emotions!
Nancy McKeon fan! 11-24-2001, 06:28 PM i agree. i dont really like i think the only show that i like on N@N is All in the Family. so i dont watch N@N any more.
Sean Snow 11-24-2001, 07:56 PM Nick at Nite needs to learn about vareity! It could fit the current six shows + the three that recently left (FOL, DS, L&S) in all before 2:00 AM!

Yeah. If they didn’t have to air a one-hour block of each show and then repeat it again several hours later, then they could fit in more shows. I even like Cheers and Family Ties but one episode a night would be fine with me. What does NAN have against variety?
The worst part was watching the downward spiral of N@N since Jan. There was no way to stop it. What I don't understand is why they didn't keep a single show from their "Revenge of the 80's" week. Instead they've rammed Family Ties and Cheers down our throats. The only hope is to wait for N@N to redo their schedule (remember how often Fol used to get bumped around?), but I wouldn't count on any new shows because the Cheers and Family Ties acquisitions have left N@N bankrupt.

;) Have a nice day ;)
Max Whittaker 11-26-2001, 06:36 PM I seem to recall hating N@N http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/eek.gif I mean, the Cheers Network, since Janurary 22, 2001. Yes, I know the exact date. It was a very revealing day for me.
Back then they weren't as bad. They edited the episodes,I think and that mad many mad. But the Facts of Life was still on. I don't know why the network is doing this, but it just keeps getting worse. Mark my words, Cheers will get booted of very soon.
jakejam 11-27-2001, 08:51 PM N@N sux! Obviously we all can agree, CHEERS SUX!! I hate family ties! I'm not very fond of the brady bunch either, but I geuss it's coming off the air. But WHY does N@N favor "Cheers"? I watched it recently and it's soooooooooooo boring. FOL is 10,000 times better than what they're playing now!!
TVLAND-FAN 11-27-2001, 10:45 PM http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/crazy.gif They really do show Cheers a little too much ! Yeah, I agree with you about "Family Ties." It is ok once a night. However, I do not see how it was such a smash hit. It's not that appealing to me. It just lacks something. Of course there is Fox, and that's why alot of people watch it now, but back then...

Maybe The Cheers Network's(N@N)purpose is to help people fall asleep. The good thing about Cheers is that when I can't sleep I just watch 5 minutes and I fall asleep.Dumb reason I know but I'm just trying to find the good in the bad.

I believe the term is clairvoyant. But I don't claim to see the future. I am only going by the way The Cheers Network has treated shows in the past. It's a good bet that N@N history will repeat itself.
If Cheers does go bye bye we won't be able to call Nick at Nite the Cheers Network anymore. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/lol.gif
TVLAND-FAN 11-28-2001, 09:06 PM Oh poop. I must be slow. Someone told me Nick stopped showing TFOL. If it's true, that really stinks. TFOL is 100x better than Family Ties or Cheers. I always just considered those 2 shows just "something to watch". Oh well. Maybe TV land 'll pick it up. (they show waaaaaaaaay to much from the 50's and 60's). Sorry Good Buddies. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif

part of the reason Family Ties was such a big hit (it was #2 for two seasons) happened because of the coattails of Michael J. Fox's success in Back To The Future. Right after that movie came out, the show shot up in the ratings because he was that hot an actor (compare it to Leonardo DiCaprio about 3-4 years ago when Titanic hit). And also, it didn't hurt that it came on right after The Cosby Show, and at it's prime, Cosby was hotter than any Friends or anything else on air today
Blair85 11-30-2001, 12:42 AM Why is N@N so bad anymore? It's sad because it used to have the best old shows. What is up w/ Cheers on like 87 times a night? I thought N@N was supposed to be kinda family-oriented but Cheers isn't for kids to watch cause all they do is sit in that bar & drink & talk about sex. It was also on other channels in reruns forever, so people probably remember the shows. SO I never watch "Cheers @ Night" cause it SUCKS!!!! They need FOL & the shows I used to watch on N@N when I was little like Mr.Ed & Green Acres & a bunch I can't remember...They even took off Lucy & she was on there forever.

Suggestions:
FIRST:Take off the Brady Bunch and burn all exsisting tapes of it.
SECOND:Put Cheers on for an hour (10 central) on Saturday nights only.
THIRD:Put Three's Company at 8 central and Facts of Life at 8:30 central Diff'rent Strokes at 9 central and Family Ties at 9:30 central Monday through Thursday.
FOURTH:Put Gilligan's Isle and Laverne & Shirley on for an hour each on Sunday Nights
FIFTH:Through the ashes of the Brady Bunch tapes in a pressure cooker.
SIXTH:Put an episode of I Love Lucy at 9 central on Saturdays followed by The Lucy Show.
SEVENth:Poke The Brady ashes with a stick.
EIGHTH:Make N@N start at 4:00 central pm on Sunday evening so they can add:
Alice
Barney Miller
Hart to Hart
That Girl
Rhoda
Phyllis
Mary Tyler Moore
NINTH:For one Sunday afternoon each month show a marathon of one year/two year wonder like:
My Sister Sam
Angie
Flo
Hello Larry
Gloria
Ropers
Three's a Crowd
The Brady Brides
and other short lasting shows.
TENTH:When they have themed episode marathons it would help to show shows that don't ususally air on their channel in addition to some of the veterans of the network.
ELEVENTH:Take the charred Brady ashes set them in a jar and set it in front of the TV while they watch NBC's current Thursday lineup to make them suffer then the next nite make them watch the WB Friday nights to show them what three GOOD family shows look like!
TWELVETH:Then make them watch a "The Brady Brides" episode to show them what they are being replaced with ('Brides' would air in The Short Lived Hootenanny!)
THIRTEENTH:Put on Aaron Spelling shows on all the other Sundays like Love Boat and Hart to Hart and Fantasy Island and Charlie's Angels and not 90210!!!!!!
FOURTEENTH:Air Here Come the Brides on Saturdays after the Cheers hour.
FIFTEENTH:Air The Mothers In-Law after the DS and L&S hours.
SIXTEENTH:Through the Brady ashes in the Gobi Desert and mix it with the other sands.
There you go N@N 16 steps to making a better network!!!
Shelley 11-30-2001, 01:14 AM I love the Brady Bunch and Cheers. I love The Facts of Life more than Cheers. But I still love Cheers. I love The Brady Bunch a whole lot. My favorite TV shows are The Brady Bunch, The Facts of Life and Cheers.

Being as I'm not much of a Cheers fan I could say some bad words http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
But then again Cheers, much like recent UNC Tarheels basketball, is overrated. I consider Cheers a story type show where you either watch daily or you're lost. I don't think the comedy is that good and on my Remembrance Meter:
I remember 1 Show from Cheers:
The Kevin McHale show. Why? Because Bird, McHale, and Parish were Championship Players at the time for Celtics.
Nuf said.
The reason its such a good mark for "pushing" by Slick Nick is because, as another poster said, Viacom Math:
Cheers, Family Ties, and Brady Bunch:
Owned by Viacom/Paramount
Or some crap like that.
Naturally the dioxyribonucleicacid (DNA) of the N@N schedule is gonna be of course Cheers (paid 75 Million $) Family Ties (80s show) and Brady Bunch (a nice kiddie pick me upper w/Perfection in the Grid being a prerequisite for being "Brady).
By contrast BTW to the Cheers "Kevin McHale ep" being the only show I can remember Brady Bunch has been memorized by now by the Man of Barnes! A perverse type of Brady Genius to be sure, but indeed, a Righteous Stroke of Genius for My Preferences in TV that is Television that is Cathode Ray Tubing (w/allowance for Digital TV).
So then:
It can be understood to some degree that Cheers, Ties, et al are shown regular like. But I will ask a ? under the Anoiting:
Why the Repeats of DoubleTakes? Is N@N losing payroll? Stupidity? What? as my teacher Tucker Twisdale would say.
And I have mixed feelings about Double Takes anyhow. On 1 Hand you see more show. But OTOH you tie up the channel. TV Land of course airs INFOMERCIALS (Whoever invented them oughta be flogged as Frank Burns said on M*A*S*H) for a couple of hours. Here comes the Spectra in Analysis:
Notice that Cheers and Ties are repeated at 2 hour intervals. The same amount of time that the "Informercials" on TV Land are aired I think. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I say this is an odd Sticky Wicket.
Amen.
IMO I believe the Repeats of Double Takes is a $ Saver and Lazy Daisy Programming.
Then there's the odd decision of having only 6! Count em. 6! Shows on the channel. No law against it but were I to go vis a vis w/Executives of N@N I would recommend at least 10 Shows Total w/No Repeats Tying Up the Channel.
Here's another one for Nick Fans:
Now I will give Praise for the decision to show 1 Brady Bunch show a night; However and Ever:
Why should the 3rd Shift see Brady Grid? Is it a Brady Thing? Or is it just lead in programming for "Pinky and the Drain" No not the cerebrum and cerebellum that is the Brain but IMO "Pinky and the DRAIN!". BTW notice the nature of the scheduling; PATB only lasts about 10-15 minutes until 6:00 AM EST and THEN the schedule synchs that is airs at 6:00 on the dot, 6:30 AM on the dot, etc.
Amen.
And get this Revelation Knowledge from a Great Pavanbadal Update!
Seems that the "Pop Up Videos" return for Brady Bunch but WAIT!
Getting Davy Jones will be shown AGAIN for the 9999999999999 up to a Google (100 Billion Billion I think). I exaggerate somewhat for Seriously its only been on 12 Times (I checked) but I must say the Repeat Showing is a Kick in the Head. I have it memorized by now and it is an interesting idea that needs work in show selection for I don't feel like watching the SAME SHOW OVER AND OVER. This is a Must for Keeping Your Viewers, even as it was a must for the Prophet Elijah to go to the Widow Woman of Zarepath for Her Miracle.
A while back I analysed the nature of TNN's DBB (Deadly Black Bar) and I say it is the worst Network of All BUT:
Slick Nick is not far behind.
Amen.
If I hear that Candy Land commercial one more time (Mein Gott! Its on Now! As of 2:00 AM EST 3's Company Showing! I kid you not.) I'll churn my innards and my digestive tract; yea my sigmoid colon and intestines even. Its the ad that goes "Come and Play a Game A Game w/Me!". The 1st few Times it was cute but then after I while....well...Can you say Diarrhea?
Time for Archie Bunker and I say. Is it really gonna be gone in a month? Although I've been wondering about the presence of that Eminence Cosby and how it'll affect Scheduling. Oh well. I do declare! I'd be surprised if Rosanne made (Family show Yeah Right!) but then again Carolina's 0-3 in Basketball (as alluded to at the start of posting) w/a potential of losing to SUNY-BINGHAMTON (are they even Div I). I digress.
I agree w/the Demographics Comments on the 1st Page of this thread. TNN does want to get 12 yr olds. I see it w/their Titty Twisters of Doom (Kamala used to be a WWF Wrestler) called WWF (No Black Bar BTW). <Archie just Burped! I best Hurry!> and Baywatch; stuff such as that. The Black Bar is kinda WebTVish; sort of like they're trying to appeal to Internet Crowds. Yeah right TNN. When I see a show nowadays on TNN when Surfing I just say:
Poorly presented.
Too right! I say it Out Loud
And Surf on By.
Personally I'll give Slick Nick a C- for now w/a Potential for Up or Down Play Later as far as Grading.
This concludes Analysis Spectrum.

Sean Snow 12-02-2001, 12:31 PM I agree with JT-BURN THE BRADYS! LOL And When They're in the Gobi Desert, I'd Have Some Lizard Eat the ashes of the film!
You know, I bet if you'd say variety around Nick, they'd say:
"Ooohhhhh! You said the 'V' word!"
It's becoming another TBS-It was Great in March, with "Laverne & Shirley", "Diff'rent Strokes", "Three's Company", and "The Facts of Life"...who'd have thought that all but one of those would still be airing in October?
Beruche 12-02-2001, 01:54 PM Last night I noticed something!Cheers has 4 DIFFERENT episodes in one night!Last night when I changed the channel to watch All in the Family I saw the last few minutes of Cheers. Then later that night when I turned it on again to watch Three's Company I saw the last part of a compleatly different Cheers episode!Did everyone know this?I didn't.Was it just one night?I don't get it.

Opps!I must have gotten the times mixed up then it doesn't matter I fell asleep and missed TC anyway. What I was trying to say was that In that little part of the Cheers episode that I saw before Family Ties or whatever they were inside a house I think not that place their usually in and the one before AITF was inside a resturant I think?Like I said I fell asleep so it might be the same episode.Could somebody clear that up?

CLASSIC TV LOVER 12-06-2001, 04:50 PM The Facts of Life is returning to Nick At Nite according to one of thier reps on the line that I called. Also I don't know if you know that Laverne And Shirley and The Jeffersons are leaving Nick At Nite at the end of December. Not to worry they are all going to TVLAND which personally right now is the best channel on the tv dial.

Don't believe them. They've lied before, they are lying now. Unless someone else was lying to us before.

I won't believe it until I see it. N@N is not a very trustworthy group. Even if FOL does return, I'm sure N@N will do something to foul it up...
