View Full Version : Rumor??
Janice 06-25-2004, 11:24 PM I just read that a hugely popular former sitcom star was killed in a car crash. I don't want to post it in the event that it's a rumor. If it's true, this board will go haywire.
Where's the best place to find breaking news?

If it's not true, will you still post it?
Janice 06-25-2004, 11:37 PM I was on a political website, and someone posted that Nancy McKeon was killed in a car crash, but didn't provide a link. There were over 75 replies in 10 minutes, with everyone trying to find links.
I'm happy to report that the thread was pulled, saying it was a hoax.
Thank you God. My heart fell.
GMunster 06-25-2004, 11:37 PM I'll turn CNN on right now, and check for details.

Thank god it was a hoax. :)

Yeah, not to keep going on about it, but I really screamed, more like a huge gasp actually. I scurried over to SO, went to Chit Chat, then to the Facts of Life board. I tried to find a link on the web about it.
Meanwhile, the folks at the other website were posting condolences, prayers, with many asking for a link. I had my husband looking all over the tv, and was so happy we kept coming up with nothing. I kept thinking that this can't be true.
I know better than to post something like that here or anywhere without confirmation, so I put my fellow Sitcom Online buddies to work.
The article looked so genuine too. The poster said it was on their local CBS news and just coming in as breaking news. I wish I could show the thread here, but it's gone. They don't close threads there when there's a problem...they pull them.

See, that's basically what my reaction was when we all found out about Jonathan Brandis. Well, at least when we still believed it to be a possible joke. I'm sorry you had to see that. Even if you're not a big fan, it's still a shock.
Oh, now that is awful. What kind of person gets off on doing something like that? Jackass... he'll get his someday. What goes around comes around. Bless your husband for helping you out and thank goodness you weren't able to find anything!

Tell me if that wasn't a big time hoax. I would provide you all with a link, but I don't even remember the link address at all.
2 hyped bros. 06-28-2004, 03:02 AM Also, remember the former Blossom star Mayam Blalick drug overdose death? It was an old hoax. Mayam Blalick is still alive, not dead!
Mijada 06-28-2004, 10:16 AM Geez, I must be living in the dark. I didn't know Nancy McKeon was married with a baby.
2 hyped bros. 06-29-2004, 04:58 PM I wouldn't rely on Entertainment Magazine because they always put the news and notes Monitor information a month too late. I'm really anxious as hell now. Screw Entertainment Magazine for their delays on info!
2 hyped bros. 06-29-2004, 06:46 PM I just realized while trying to solve this riddle:
There's always been an old Indian prediction (as well as a predicition in the Bible) going on that warns of bitter times to come. Have any of you ever heard of the old 3-4-5 prophecy. Lets see, three people with the letter R in their names, whether first name or last name, all officially dead, then the first hoax death would have their first name begin with the letter R. That's 3deaths and the 4th R being a hoax. That person's last name would begin with the letter M, a 5 pointed letter, 4 points when lowercased. But you get the point, right? The last names of the next 3 hoaxes will also begin with the letter M and the first letter of their first name will go backwards by every 4 letters. Like this, RM, NM, JM, FM, BM. 3 deaths, 4 hoaxes (don't know who the last two are gonna be, but I do know who the second one is already, and that post on the one site has already been yanked away claiming it as a hoax.) the last names of the 4 hoaxes beginning with a 5 pointed letter. I'm almost playing detective over here. The number of hoaxes by the number of letters descending (N is 4 letters away from R) which=4 by the number of actual deaths. And yes I have a feeling there will be another 2 hoaxed death claims before all this is over. 4-3=1. 1+5=6. The 3 actual deaths and the number 6. Oh ****. Any of you now really feeling scared? Now I am! I thing the person making these false death claims on Rick Moranis and now Nancy McKeon and probably two more with the initials JM and FM is the True Third Antichrist. I am now scared stiff.
And what color is evil. Red. And what letter does red begin with? The letter R. and how many letters does red have? 3 letters. I've noticed bad thing happening lately like Houston, Texas having an unusually mild summer this year. Usually we in H-town would be sweltering in really bad heat and extremely high humidity. Yes we still have the humidity in 2004, but it's nowhere near as hot as it was last year. This year is unusually mild. And just 4 days ago, It was unusually cool, and this is in mid-June 2004. According to the bible, we're already in the final days before Judgement. And yes, I'm totally scared stiff.
2 hyped bros. 06-29-2004, 08:40 PM Heard it on their local news station, huh! I checked the news, I checked Yahoo news, Google news, I checked all news stations and still nothing came up. I think this guy if he claimed he heard it on their local news and the other person who copied this person's claim and had it posted on Google Groups are nothing but liars, especially the guy who claimed to have seen it on his local news station.

2 hyped bros. 06-29-2004, 11:52 PM I just checked on the same news station that this sicko claimed he heard it on, CBS, to be exact, then I went over to the CBS news site, typed in the name Nancy McKeon, and only came up with three names, those names being Jack McKeon, Nancy Rhodes, and Nancy Rhodes, one of them a sports coach, the other one a political figure. And guess what, there is another Nancy McKeon, possibly 100 or more women by the name Nancy McKeon, one of them a 49 year old big time Washington Post edditor. I don't think the Actress herself died, otherwise it would be all over the press by now. And I don't see anything on CBSnews.com about Nancy McKeon or her death, because I typed them both, and nothing came up about her. If this guy claimed to have seen it as late breaking news on his local CBS station, by federal laws they have to put it on CBSnews.com instantly or within 24 hours max. It's been like what 5 days so far and counting when this person claimed to seeing it on his local CBS station? It's now officially a hoax, just like the Rick Morranis death hoax, and the Metallica lead singer suicide death hoax. Anyone remember Mayim Bialik of Blossom and the death hoax they did to her many years ago during the later parts of the 90's. People thought she overdosed on drugs and alcohol and died, and they ruled it a suiside. Guess what, Mayim Bialik is still alive.

2 hyped bros. 06-30-2004, 05:58 PM little insomniac, going back a number of posts back, you mentioned something about Jonathan Brandis. It was a friend of his who found his dead body, and being an only child, his parents and his friends parents were told to keep it away from the media for awile, including news-groups and news channels and the newspaper. They even told the ambulance driver, the hospital, and the coroners office to keep it quiet. That's why the news on him was delayed. Then someone found his note, and posted it on the internet. His family and friends were good about keeping things secret.
Now on Nancy's case, This person claims it was a car accident. Guess what, in the LA area, there's lots of people. They would have seen her dead body or heard about it while passing by, and immediately called their news station to report it. In this case, it would have been on the news quickly within the next day at the latest. Look at Sam Kinnison. He crashed in the middle of some highway in the Southern California desert, killing himself instantly. Look how fast that news spread to the media. Like within a day at the most. Look at John Denver. He died while flying his own airplane. He wasn't even that well known in the music industry. When he crashed and died instantly, the incedent went to the news immediately and was in every news channel within 24 hours tops. Suisides within homes takes days to be publicised due to family and friends not wanting publicity immediately. Crashes whether on the road or in the air takes no more than 24 hours to arrive on the news channels. Why, because people they don't even know sees or witnesses it. We're talking about fans, non-friends and non-family people. People like you and I. And beleive me, I checked CBS, and still nothing came up.
Johnathan brandis had a friend who found his dead body and most likely told the ambulance driver, the police, and everyone to keep shut. His mom and dad did the same as well, told everyone to keep shut, and were probably on the lookout for the press and media in order to keep them away.
Now who do you think travels the streets, roads and highways? The media. And people who would tell the media as well. Tell me, If you seen that even the most minute celebrity was killed in a car accident, and you seen it or witnessed it, wouldn't you tell the media and the press? I know I would.

Well I, for one, am completely convinced that Nancy's McKeon's 'death' was a hoax. In fact, I was convinced about 20 minutes after I heard the rumor.
As for John Denver not being well known in the music industry, you're way off on that. He has many classic hits, and he achieved what many artists never do...longevity in their careers.
His death sent shock waves throughout the music industry and with his many fans. My mother was a big fan and cried when she heard about his death.

It needs to be added to the smilie list.
Brent88 06-30-2004, 08:27 PM It's defintely a hoax. Had it been true, the media would have picked it up within 10 minutes of it hitting the web. In the age when we have three 24-hour news channels you can't keep anything from spreading like wildfire. When Reagan died, the news hit the press within 35 minutes.

robyrob 07-01-2004, 07:43 AM this sorta reminds me of those rumors of Buddy Hackett dying a few years back - he kept trying to tell everyone he was still alive, but noone believed him :(
2 hyped bros. 07-01-2004, 11:18 PM I heard the guy who posted this hoax is now in jail, otherwise he would have announced himself as a joker. I beleive the sitew he posted it on that had it yanked probably called the authorities on this guy, caught him, and is now in jail doing time. Remember the dude who posted several months ago about the giant meteorite that was due to hit the earth in May 2004 and wipe out all life as we know it? Nasa even said there was no meteorite threatening earth at that time. Nowhere near earth. Beleive me, the Government knows everything! They know every accident that occurs throughout every road in America. They know every celebrity. They would know if a celebrity was involved in an accident. Nancy McKeon wasn't even involved in an accident that day. I think this dude ****ed up big time.
2 hyped bros. 07-01-2004, 11:37 PM robyrob, isn't Buddy Hackett already dead? He's been dead since june 30, 2003. I guess that makes it 1 year and 2 days now. You said a few years ago, what year was that?
2 hyped bros. 07-01-2004, 11:43 PM And speaking of this hoax thing, anyone remember a few years ago someone posted a claim on the internet saying that Nancy McKeon had hired a hitman to take someone down that she didn't like? There were people as a result that ended up then assuming Nancy McKeon was involved with the Mafia. Also untrue stuff.
